I took my truck for an oil change at the company yard, today I noticed they moved the cat walk back about 8 inches. Why would they do that?

That’s where the mechanics take a nap during the oil change. They need a space big enough to cuddle.

Am mechanic. Can confirm.

So you're the one they call tickle tits

Sometimes I wake up and my jaw hurts, strange...

That’s deep.
WanderingRonin82@reddit
Thats what he said.
LH2man@reddit
Aha! Next time you hear him saying that have him pull back several inches. This worked for me. My friend! I mean it worked for my friend
mindsunwound@reddit
Am firm, can cuddle.
Vast-Yak-8713@reddit
To work on the fifth wheel maybe?
RichCypher@reddit
Was there possibly another piece of the catwalk that they forgot to reinstall or you just had the one plate? I can't tell on my tiny phone screen.
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
no, i have pictures of it from before. I had a spare tire on there before i took in to the shop.
Trucker_Trent@reddit
Where is your air dryer?
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
Under the driver seat, under the batteries.
LadyTrucker23@reddit
Probably checking the batteries and just didn’t put it back. A lot of oil changes include a complimentary battery check.

Wizard did it
Wizard_with_a_Pipe@reddit
Can confirm. Sorry about that.

I've greased my own truck for years and have never moved a thing to grease the driveshaft. Incompetence or lazy or possibly both to have to move the catwalk any to get to it. This shows that they didn't grease it fully and just got what they could reach as there are about 15 zerks to get to (on my 94 pete) from under the truck
Dull_Film_4300@reddit
Hi
W1D0WM4K3R@reddit
You went for an oil change. They're not gonna move anything just for the fuck of it lol.
They probably had a fitting down there.
DelawhereRider@reddit
Moving the cat walk is sometimes required for lizard removal.
TexaKan@reddit
I pull them off to change air dryer cartridges during PMs.
AutumnBrooks2021@reddit
I’m sure you could ask your company why and they would tell you.
FAYMKONZ@reddit (OP)
they said "were not sure".
AutumnBrooks2021@reddit
That’s scary lol. I guess it doesn’t matter, it’s their truck anyways. Anything happens, it’s their fault since they’re the ones that moved it.
Ok-Bodybuilder8020@reddit
Greasing driveshaft is easier lol
BronyxSniper@reddit
Driveshaft is sooo fricken easy to grease from underneath. The only thing that actually makes sense is that they had to do some other repair that made taking catwalk off necessary. If not, your mechanic is a dumbass.
HowlingWolven@reddit
Yeah, but if the truck isn’t on jacks or above the pit when they get to the driveline it it’s easier to get at it from above than to button up and move the truck over the pit, wheel in the jacks, or get on the creeper and wheel back in under all the steps and tanks and skirts.
LordRaven74@reddit
No, it looks weird because they gave you the frame stretch you asked for.
HowlingWolven@reddit
They don’t ‘just’ do an oil change, they do a full service. Part of that requires inspecting and greasing the driveline at the yokes and the slip coupling, right under the deck plate.
The deck plate is just clamped on with those four clamp bolts, and that’s where they put it back.
Optimal-Cat-8117@reddit
To make it easier for you make a little turn...
JayGT1@reddit
There is usually 2 off the cat walk. Id say your missing something an,, not much any of us can do . Really. . What year make an model is it
Monksdrunk@reddit
Those volvo macks have those catwalks on them. loosen the 4 10mm heads to move it back
JD4101@reddit
To grease the uni joint maybe?
Metaltom1970@reddit
Maybe to keep the lines from scraping? I watch that stuff and wrap every possible rub point.
BackstrokeVictim@reddit
They didn't move the cat walk back 8 inches, they moved everything else up 8 inches.
Princetrix@reddit
Going to guess it’s drive shaft related. You could always have them move it back or do it yourself. No real function lol.
sixeightJ@reddit
Probably to get to a grease fitting or something so they didn't have to crawl underneath
bunssnowman@reddit
Likely not intentional. Probably took it off and put it back on wherever even though it obviously would line up real nice where it used to be
RoamingNomadSoul@reddit
Maybe a cat pushed it 8 inches
