Is there a way to indicate my car is a manual without the stupid “anti-millennial theft device” stickers?

Anti millennial? Aka the generation that grew up with used Honda, Dodge Neons, Sentras, Ford Escorts, old Volvos etc with manuals? Hell I wouldn't be surprised if gen x is less manual-adept than millennials actually, considering the prevalence of automatics in American cars in the 60s and 70s.
ScipioAfricanvs@reddit
That's a pretty bad take. By the 80s, only about 35% of new cars were sold with manual transmissions. In the 90s, it was 15%. Factor in the older cars Gen X learned on, and it's pretty obvious Gen X knows how to drive manual at a much higher rate than millennials. It's just simple math - why would the generation that grew up around more manual cars (Gen X) know manual less than a generation who grew up around fewer manual cars (millennials)?

Wait until you learn that there are countries other than the US, Mr. Scipio Africanus.
ScipioAfricanvs@reddit
Wait until you read the comment I was replying to which clearly mentioned American cars and models sold in America.

Wait until you notice that I was making a joke based on your username. Probably needs a lot of waiting.

While this is true, it still comes out to about 1 in 10 millennials likely driving a stick at some point, given that most of our (at least the older millennials) fist cars were from the late 80s or 90s. I know when I was car shopping in high school and college stickshifts were still very common on used dealer lots. Tons and tons of cheaper commuter cars just came with a stick, autos were a ~thousand dollar upgrade for many.
ScipioAfricanvs@reddit
Sure, maybe 10% or so of millennials know stick, but the idea that millennials know it more than Gen X is just absurd on its face.
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
Don't disagree, but it's also just silly to say no millennials drive stick, ya know?
MeltingDog@reddit (OP)
I know, it’s ridiculous. Millennials are in their 40s now, but boomers still think it’s anyone younger than them.
Fundabz@reddit
Friend had a #SaveTheManuals License Plate Frame, sure there is a sticker.
Or a sticker of the Gear Layout.
SwarmOfRatz@reddit
People steal manuals all the time still. Old hondas, integras, camaros, corvettes, challengers, all getting stolen like crazy manual or not
Mysterious_Mon@reddit
Wouldn't be surprised an 88 Accord gets stolen for quick transportation. Old Hondas were so easy to steal.
elantra6MT@reddit
I feel like someone who can’t drive stick wouldn’t notice that a car is manual until they’re already sitting in it
elantra6MT@reddit
I’ve had passengers not notice until half an hour in or on subsequent drives
RIP_Soulja_Slim@reddit
Girl I dated in high school didn't notice I was driving stick until a month in to our relationship lol, I was so confused, like how on earth did you not pay attention at all here?
Then a few years later I went to Europe and got a benz from the airport in to the city, maybe an ~hour drive, didn't notice it was stick until I was getting out of the car lol.
So I kinda get it.
dantose@reddit
Get a sticker of your shift pattern?
DudeWhereIsMyDuduk@reddit
I had a previous (manual) Jeep that was broken into, they were absolute gentlemen in stealing $1800 worth of tools and recovery equipment from it. But not a scratch.
Weekly-Government350@reddit
At least they were considerate. Never fuck with a brother's automobile!
DiskEuphoric2931@reddit
wanting to communicate it is manual is cringe
MeltingDog@reddit (OP)
100% agree. I hate those stickers. Hence trying to find a solution
lawtechie@reddit
Get a 5 Speed badge, like you'd see on an 80's car.
dumahim@reddit
Stick a big, pink, rubbery dildo over the shifter.
EddieGS350@reddit
Big bright highlighter yellow d!ld@ shift knob.
DaBanninator@reddit
This is the only correct answer
Successful-Growth827@reddit
Sure. Keep your windows un-tinted so they can see the shifter and 3 pedals easily.
Of course, you'll probably the one unlucky bastard who gets the thief who loves F&F, and runs 3 Honda Civics with Spoon engines, T66 turbos, with NOS, and Motec system exhausts.

Millennials are old now
NotoriousCFR@reddit
Even Gen Z are getting up there. The youngest zoomers have their learners permits, the oldest zoomers are approaching 30 years old and have kids and houses and shit. People are still out here shit talking "millennials" and then complaining about Gen Alpha trends.
NotoriousCFR@reddit
The gear shifter sticking up out of the middle of the floor is probably a dead giveaway
Hnry_Dvd_Thr_Awy@reddit
Is this car one of the ones in your flair? Cause….
MeltingDog@reddit (OP)
Haha yeah. It’s probably deterrent enough!
Competitive-Reach287@reddit
Never overestimate the intelligence of criminals. It's common in the convertible world to leave doors unlocked so the soft top won't get slashed. Guess what? Crooks will slash the top anyway without checking the doors. I know Jeep owners who have had their tops cut on unlocked Jeeps when the bad guys could've just opened the door, or even just unzipped the window. All this for the possibility of some loose change.
arcticrobot@reddit
Just get a nice knob with clear H-Pattern on it. It will draw attention.

dontdoxmebro@reddit
They sell shift pattern window stickers on Amazon and Etsy. They also have 3-pedal window stickers, but those typically have a cringy saying on them.
These kids wouldn’t know what a Hurst or a B&M shifter is, so those stickers would not help.
SirLoremIpsum@reddit
This is a good idea - automotive thieves are known in the business as very chivalrous. Many examples of them being unable to hot wire a car so they repair the damage and leave it as is. Definitely don't trash it because they can't steal it.
If you put family stickers on the back they won't steal cause they know you need it for kids etc. only single people enthusiast vehicles get stolen. So maybe a sticker "this is my commuter" will help advertise to thieves that your income depends on it.
halcykhan@reddit
Considering the cars in your flair, I think you’re good as is
Does_Not_Use_Clothes@reddit
You could get a custom one made that says this car has a manual
LegalPusher@reddit
You might be able to get a replacement shifter head that clearly shows the manual gear pattern on it, if yours is faded or otherwise mistakable for an automatic. You could also make sure floor mats are a high contrast colour to show off the third pedal.
Old-Significance4921@reddit
I used to have a sticker from the Manual Gearbox Preservation Society on a truck that was manual. You could get one of those
MasterofPeridots@reddit
Get yourself one of these
Chosen1PR@reddit
Thieves aren't going to read stickers. Just make sure your front windows aren't tinted too dark.
Roar_Intention@reddit
Don't be so mean, they would read them if they could read.
RiftHunter4@reddit
I wouldn't add any sticker like that. Thieves won't check.
pidgeottOP@reddit
Well the shifter and extra pedal should be a good notice
Unless you plane on putting on every surface of your car whatever note you come up with, i don't think you're going to meaningfully change whether a person will break into your car or not
OllieFromCairo@reddit
I'd put a stick somewhere easily visible through the window, maybe between the driver and passenger seats, and put the H-pattern of the gears on it, while also removing anything that said "PRNM-D" from the vicinity of the stick.
orangebikini@reddit
Surely the mope going around stealing cars will see the gear stick through your car's window?
