I got my Cat 1 (upgrade from Cat 4) in just over 4 weeks in the TC Prairie & Northern sector.
I guess if youre still questioning on whether or not to move at least you dont have a lease to cancel. My advice: Pack everything you have and hope the medical shows up in time. If it doesnt, wait for the next start date. If it does, go hunting for a place immediately and settle for a weekly motel deal if necessary. No school will be 7 days a week so use any spare time to find a permanent place to stay. You can already shortlist places on kijiji/facebook but most will likely be gone by May depending on what area you live in.
And dont forget to keep bugging TC on the phone, webform and through your CAME.
I was worried about processing times so I asked for a class 4 as well as my class 3. I’d heard that the class 4 has a much faster turn around and that was all I needed for my student solo.
Maybe thats an option? Would the school accept a class 4 to at least start?
Also worth just talking to the school. They might make an exception if it’s an issue of you just waiting on the TC and you tried to get the medical in time.
They only accept class 1’s and I already emailed them and they just reiterated that they need a physical copy of the class 1. I’m guessing my only option is to defer to another semester if I dont get the medical by then

Went for my initial cat 1 medical about 44 days ago and my college flight training program starts early may. Still haven’t received my medical (fairly confident i will pass) I don’t have any medical conditions. I will have to relocate \~200km and my program REQUIRES a physical medical certificate before the first class. Im worried that I wont receive my medical before then as we all know transport Canadas notoriously long processing times. I really need to know my course of action as if I move and don’t get my medical then I would’ve moved for no reason and would’ve wasted my money.

Try to contact your member of parliament. I never tried it but it’s an advise that come often on French groups.

You get the medical certificate from the AME at the end of your exam if everything goes ok.

Im pretty sure thats for renewals I went for a category 1 medical and they send their report to Transport Canada and then they issue the medical

Ok. US FAA vs Transport Canada.
threeleafcloverspy@reddit
Yeah, first medical isn’t immediate. Just the renewals.
