They overthrown a persian prime minister serving persian interests and put a dictator serving american interests, basically ensuring america got all the profits from oil. Locals got pissed at him and he was eventually replaced by a religious rebel leader
So of course the most sensible, and understandable thing to do as a result was replace said dictator with a rabid orthodox Islamic theocracy that would cling to power by absolute repression for the next 40 years.
I mean American also deserves pain and hardship for electing Trump twice, as amusing as he's been, and as good as it has been to actually enforce immigration law.
He might be arguably 'shit at enforcing immigration law' but at least he's doing something, rather than treating illegal migration as no big deal and making sure consequences were little more than a minor inconvenience for those who chose to be in the country illegally.
As for
those that didn't unfortunately have to deal with it too
sure this admin has squeezed out a bit more but at a much higher prices tag which comes out of taxpayers, and if they really wanted to actually do something about it they would go after employers and not do this performative trash
Oh I agree they should also be going after employers too, but that won't happen while there are lobbyists whispering in the ears of whoever is in charge. What's being done will have to do for now.
As for how things were pre 2016? well, sure things were relatively low back then, but look at what it looked like post 2016.
No they didn't lmao. They backed the Shah but the Shah got overthrown by the Mullahs. This is not a situation in which the U.S. intervened and shit went wrong. Like the other commenter said, this is a situation in which the U.S. didn't do enough.
Maybe, we'll never know. But once you intervene you own the consequences. You don't just get to weasel out of your responsibility by speculating how the alternative could have maybe also turned out bad.
The US backed and inserted the Shah after helping overthrow a democratically elected left leaning government. They did this because the left leaning government was going to nationalize their oil industry, which would lead to lesser profits for British and American oil companies. The Shah's rule was not a good time for the non affluent rural class. This was how the Islamic groups became influential and took over.
You mean it would have led to the theft of an enormous amount of western owned infrastructure which in and of itself would have been grounds for war?
But no, this comment is pretty revisionist. The Shah was already the monarch there. Mosaddegh was not "left leaning." The 1979 Revolution was. Mosaddegh's nationalization was just a naked attempt to acquire wealth for his state and not anything ideological. Meanwhile the 1979 Revolution was overtly supported by communists. And on top of this, you're omitting Mosaddegh's autocratic attempt to seize power himself against the parliament prior to the US backed coup even happening.
To sum it up, the mistake I'm correcting is you are taking a chain of events where "A happened prior to B which happened prior to C" and are trying to draw casual links from "A caused B which necessitated C." It's a textbook fallacy. In fact, you're completely glossing over the very glaring "in spite of" relationship between B and C in this case as Western powers successfully staved off an Islamic takeover of the country for a few decades until the West dropped support due to a wide variety of reasons.
The Shah was left leaning and by many standards, quality of life improved under his rule for decades.
He wanted to nationalise the oil and British Petroleum plus MI6, CIA(?) helped him get overthrown when public sentiment soured on him for extravagances and islamic sentiment growing (likely fueled by western spies.
It’s not the other way round. Mossadegh was the Iranian prime minister during the shah’s reign that wanted to nationalise the oil companies which promoted Churchill and the U.S. to coup him.
Big part of that is literally western meddling, if they were allowed to progress naturally they’d probably be a lot further socially. This has been going on since the Ottoman Empires dissolution.
It's a weird call to say that it was literally either American meddling OR a hardline theocracy, as though the latter is in any way a normal reaction to the former. It's more accurate to say that an unpopular monarchy associated with western interests might have been the spark in this case, but the fuel for the shitshow that came clearly existed irrespective of who the monarchy was aligned with,
I iterated on another comment that they had to figure it out themselves.
Think of the USA, we went from British subjects, then to slave owners/prohibition, followed by Jim Crowism. This took generations before we got it right.
It was ugly but the reality is, the people decided it. Not foreign intervention.
I guess my point here is you can only blame others for your poor choices up to a point. If you act like an ass for the whole night at a bar, picking shit with people at other tables, and finally someone has enough and beats the shit out of you in the parking lot, you don't don't get to turn it around by saying "I was only being an insufferable asshole to everyone tonight because my dad was dating some bitch who didn't like me much when I was a kid!"
Lol what are you talking about.. Mossadegh was a fucking dictator,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_parliamentary_dissolution_referendum
I wonder why leftists don't talk about this. Mossadegh held a referendum dissolving parliament and giving himself the power to make laws. It passed with a whooping 99% of the vote.
My real point is if the people were allowed to do it, there would be real change.
I think both democrats and republicans are sleeze bags, if I woke up tomorrow and China offed the current president and replaced them with a Chinese backed sympathizer. I would be far angrier than before.
I think both democrats and republicans are sleeze bags
Some of them, but assuming it doesn't matter who you vote for because "all politicians lie" or "all politicians are crooks" so you vote for the biggest troll is how you end up a fake democracy with a weak judiciary and congress who can't or won't do anything
Nothing is so fucked in America voters can't fix it in November and 2028, but we have no hope if everyone is as irresponsible and irrational as you. If you want to vote Red just pick a non-authoritarian in the GOP primary then abstain if an authoritarian wins the nomination. Chris Christie, Nicki Haley, and Ron DeSantis all ran against him in the primary
Does that justify American intervention and the subsequent imprisonment, disappearing, and executions of tens of thousands of people by the American-backed regime? No? Then who gives a shit?
The Iranian Revolution and subsequent establishment of the Islamic Republic is one of the purest examples of blowback there ever was. Anything that tries to minimize the role of the US in the development of Iran in the 20th and 21st century is just babble and whataboutism. There's a reason "Death to America, Death to Israel" is a popular rallying cry, and it is wholly your own fault.
I’m be careful, because nobody really knows what would be different. But I definitely consider selecting multiple oligarchic individuals and families as westernized aligned puppets as disconnected with the actual people they governed a bad thing for the entirety of the middle east.
Iran was ruined by ~~Islam~~ religious extremism tbf and there's a good number of people from there who vehemently despise Islam because of religious extremism
"Death to America" is a term of endearment. It is even a Holiday in Iran!
"These events include the 4 November anniversary of the U.S. embassy seizure, which Iranian leaders declared in 1987 as a national holiday, called "Death to America Day."[23] State-sponsored murals that feature the slogan "Death to America" are common in Iranian cities, particularly Tehran."

Yeah because Iran is a regional “power” with like 1/40th of the US population. It’s not that they don’t want to kill more people, it’s that they can’t. D-tier ass country
Iran has no effect on regular Americans while the other country runs the second biggest lobbying group in the country.
It’s not a matter of good guys and bad guys, but more, “Iran is meaningless to average Americans while the other guys are openly influencing your politics more than any other foreign country.”
Surprised more people do not understand this. I don't care about Iran. The only reason I care about Israel is the outsized influence on our politicians.
It was during the hurricane Harvey disaster. It wasn't the entire state but a city that required its citizens to pledge not to boycott Israel if they wanted thier hurricane relief fund.
The rest of the state DOES have a law that makes it illegal to boycott Israel anyways. Which is an obviously large 1st amendment violation that, for some reason, courts have ignored.
How does AIPAC end up owning all of our politicians when they throw around less money than AARP? I never understood this. Qatar alone dumps more money into out political process than AIPAC by two orders of magnitude.
Most legislators that support Israel aren't Evangelical or Jewish. And frankly most of them are geriatric so wouldn't that make sense that the AARP would have more power alongside their much larger lobbying effort? And why would the Catholic legislators support Israel in such numbers?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Evangelicals make up a plurality of Americans overall, and they're particularly numerous (and zealous) in regions that are majority Republican, such as the South. The most pro-Israel representatives are Republican, are they not? Anyway, even if a representative isn't Evangelical themselves, I would expect that they mostly act in accordance with the ideals of the people they represent. I'm also definitely not trying to whitewash the Democrats, but they do seem to be far less guilty when it comes to this matter.
Nah, it's pretty bipartisan. The only legislators that are openly anti-Israel are the horseshoe left and right. I'd say it's slightly more common on the left but only because the progressives slightly outnumber the isolationists on the right. They're pretty fringe in either case. Evangelicals make up about a 5th of the country. Secular Americans are about twice their constituency.
Texas is filled with a bunch of dumb fucks. Last I remember Abbot wanted to defund all public schools. You're talking about a state that voted in Ted Cruz. Even with all the blackouts they are scared of solar power cause its an "evil" chinese product..
The texas comedy scene should be walled off from the rest of the world as well.
I have very low understanding how texas functions, but it seems everything that doesn't feel too collectivistic can be done there as long as you bribe enough.
The state is boycotting the boycott of Israel. This shouldn't apply to disaster relief funds given to individuals. I'm pretty confident this clause was completely unnecessary and wouldn't be actionable at all. But it's completely true that the state of Texas is not legally allowed to contract or disperse funds to businesses that boycott Israel. You can boycott Israel, but the state of Texas is not going to subsidize you or do business with you.
The whole country runs on bribes, corruption, and insider trading. It's kind of what happens when you let a bunch of pdfs and cannibals run everything down to the state level.
Out of three Iran had the least aggression all this time up until us/Israel Intervention. Whatever Irans doing within their country borders does not have direct affect on average American citizen unlike Israel
They aren't good but the war cause is not them being bad either. They have the "morally right" view from some people so why not Milk it they have pass ig
Brother, they LITERALLY chant death to America. Do not even try to gaslight people. Officially. By the government. I have zero love for Israel, I'm just not jerking off Iran or feeling bad for them at all. Ever.
That means an end to imperialist meddling and waging wars in other countries, not the people themselves. There's a clip somewhere where it's explained.
I mean all it takes is a quick Google search to understand the phrase. Literally "what does death to America mean". Nowhere do they suggest that that literally means kill your everyday American. That's just you being ignorant, and apparently willfully so
Iran is much more complicated of a country than they "want to kill us".
Sure there are hardliners, but they are just one faction among many. A faction that was losing power in the wake of the JCPOA deal as average Iranians had their lives and economies improved by trade with the west. Trump unilaterally withdrawing from JCPOA was what saved the hardliner faction from slowly fading into irrelevance, since he confirmed their rhetoric that the west could not be trusted and Iran could not deal with us.
A faction that was losing power in the wake of the JCPOA deal as average Iranians had their lives and economies improved by trade with the west.
The Ayatollah was at the peak of his power during the 2010s precisely because he was able to wield more economic power. He only started losing control of the country because we cracked down and started economically starving the country instead of bringing it into the "brotherhood of nations." His regime nearly collapsed immediately prior to this war because we so effectively isolated him and the ruling oligarchs from the rest of the population because of how obvious it was their economic output was mostly going to fund Hamas and Hezbollah and the Houthis and their ballistic missile program and their suicide drones AND their nuclear program.
Dude you're acting like Iran wasn't under sanctions before JCPOA. Iran had been under sanctions for much of his rise to power yet he rose to power anyways. Saying the sanctions relief is what allowed him to rise to power is just plain wrong. That was when his power was starting to crack. You think he would have negotiated with the west if he wasn't under enormous pressure to do so from within?
No, I'm talking like how the Iran Nuclear Deal heavily lightened their sanctions. He's always been secure in power. But we simply funded his ambitions far more than he would have been able to otherwise. He never negotiated with the West in a good faith attempt to join the brotherhood of nations. He just wanted our money.
Iran had been doing information warfare for quite a while now, with russian help. They are both pretty good at it (except cringe ai videos). Thats where their strength really is, in astroturfing propaganda. They know how woefully pathetic their military capabilities are, and they know they can't do shit against us militarily, so they will grasp at all straws and post even the most minor "wins" they can achieve. Its really impressive how they managed to convince a good chunk of people that they are somehow a superpower when their entire leadership had been purged, their navy sunk, and missile systems are getting destroyed rn.
I still remember they beat up and slaughter the rioters when they killed the ig poster who didn't wear her hijab properly to death. No sympathy for that regime or people who support it.
Oh i just noticed your name. I keep seeing you on this sub defending iran. What's up with that? Are you at least getting paid? You know their money is worthless after they decided to fund terrorists instead of improving their economy, right?
No, its something hardcore tankie commies like hasan piker and white supremacist nick fuentes (gay mexican) agree on. All normal people are largely on the side of functioning civilizations like us and israel against third world shitholes like iran, venezuela, cuba etc
I struggle to really understand what you’re getting at.
Bibi has controlled the country with the ultra religious right for the last few decades, but this can change through the regular democratic process. Iran cannot change to secular unless the entire government is upended.
Bibi's party is actually the (more) center-right party there. They're just the largest one. He's in coalition with the more fundamentalist party, though.
100% agree.

I mean, we know about 4chans far right history. Makes sense there are users floating around there that are pro-iran. A regime which gives gay people either the choice of receiving the death penalty or a gender transition.

Out of three Iran had the least aggression all this time up until us/Israel Intervention. Whatever Irans doing within their country borders does not have direct affect on average American citizen unlike Israel
pit_supervisor@reddit
Ah yes, because Iranian government oppressed their people... US should bomb a girl school full of children?
oby100@reddit
It’s a long term strategy. You wouldn’t understand.
CarpenterEast6047@reddit
They aren't good but the war cause is not them being bad either. They have the "morally right" view from some people so why not Milk it they have pass ig
Vall3y@reddit
The thing is it works because people are retarded I guess
Mrpettit@reddit
Death to Israel, Death to America. Just a prank bro, didn't mean it.
outland_king@reddit
The both suck ass, but Iran's post isnt wrong.
DeathsStarEclipse@reddit
How does something like that happen. How does a small, country who is supported by the strength of the bigger country end up in control.
I just don't know how that works.
I'm not denying it happened.. but like how?!?
JustChillin3456@reddit
Say what you want about Iran
I’m not dying for Israel
Jack-of-Hearts-7@reddit
Fuck Israel.
oni_no_onii-chan@reddit
But it will make some iranian immigrants happy? You don't want them to restore 2 generations "dynasty"?
Bossgalka@reddit
Israel wants to control us.
Iran wants to kill us.
Idk, both are enemies, but one is definitely fucking worse. Fuck 'em both.
Accomplished_Mall329@reddit
Iran wants to kill you because Israel is controlling you to bomb their country.
cplusequals@reddit
Lol if Israel didn't exist they'd obviously still be trying to kill us.
slowamigo@reddit
er no they wouldn't. You obviously haven't ever met a Moslim
cplusequals@reddit
Lmao you don't know US history seemingly. They've been going after us for 250 years. And a bit over a thousand years of world history prior.
slowamigo@reddit
Who?
slowamigo@reddit
Iran doesn't want to kill you. Israel wants to send you to fight for them, on the other hand
Bossgalka@reddit
Brother, they LITERALLY chant death to America. Do not even try to gaslight people. Officially. By the government. I have zero love for Israel, I'm just not jerking off Iran or feeling bad for them at all. Ever.
slowamigo@reddit
That means an end to imperialist meddling and waging wars in other countries, not the people themselves. There's a clip somewhere where it's explained.
Bossgalka@reddit
Alright, you have fun being brainwashed, I guess.
slowamigo@reddit
I mean all it takes is a quick Google search to understand the phrase. Literally "what does death to America mean". Nowhere do they suggest that that literally means kill your everyday American. That's just you being ignorant, and apparently willfully so
Minimum-Astronaut1@reddit
Hezbollah. Idiot.
sadacal@reddit
Iran is much more complicated of a country than they "want to kill us".
Sure there are hardliners, but they are just one faction among many. A faction that was losing power in the wake of the JCPOA deal as average Iranians had their lives and economies improved by trade with the west. Trump unilaterally withdrawing from JCPOA was what saved the hardliner faction from slowly fading into irrelevance, since he confirmed their rhetoric that the west could not be trusted and Iran could not deal with us.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/may/09/iranian-hardliners-rejoice-over-us-nuclear-deal-exit
cplusequals@reddit
The Ayatollah was at the peak of his power during the 2010s precisely because he was able to wield more economic power. He only started losing control of the country because we cracked down and started economically starving the country instead of bringing it into the "brotherhood of nations." His regime nearly collapsed immediately prior to this war because we so effectively isolated him and the ruling oligarchs from the rest of the population because of how obvious it was their economic output was mostly going to fund Hamas and Hezbollah and the Houthis and their ballistic missile program and their suicide drones AND their nuclear program.
sadacal@reddit
Dude you're acting like Iran wasn't under sanctions before JCPOA. Iran had been under sanctions for much of his rise to power yet he rose to power anyways. Saying the sanctions relief is what allowed him to rise to power is just plain wrong. That was when his power was starting to crack. You think he would have negotiated with the west if he wasn't under enormous pressure to do so from within?
cplusequals@reddit
No, I'm talking like how the Iran Nuclear Deal heavily lightened their sanctions. He's always been secure in power. But we simply funded his ambitions far more than he would have been able to otherwise. He never negotiated with the West in a good faith attempt to join the brotherhood of nations. He just wanted our money.
wordjedi@reddit
By now we know social media is flooded with Iranobots, not just Israelibots, maybe the comments on this one
Waging war by smartphone, classic Persia
narkot1k@reddit
Iran had been doing information warfare for quite a while now, with russian help. They are both pretty good at it (except cringe ai videos). Thats where their strength really is, in astroturfing propaganda. They know how woefully pathetic their military capabilities are, and they know they can't do shit against us militarily, so they will grasp at all straws and post even the most minor "wins" they can achieve. Its really impressive how they managed to convince a good chunk of people that they are somehow a superpower when their entire leadership had been purged, their navy sunk, and missile systems are getting destroyed rn.
BaltazarOdGilzvita@reddit

I still remember they beat up and slaughter the rioters when they killed the ig poster who didn't wear her hijab properly to death. No sympathy for that regime or people who support it.

oby100@reddit
If you’re offended by that slogan you don’t know much about American history. I consider it a badge of honor.
cplusequals@reddit
I'm not offended by it. But I do support bombing them until they don't have anymore missiles, though. Their choice, but it is what it is.

narkot1k@reddit
Oh i just noticed your name. I keep seeing you on this sub defending iran. What's up with that? Are you at least getting paid? You know their money is worthless after they decided to fund terrorists instead of improving their economy, right?
blockuh9089@reddit
Finally something both sides of the political spectrum agree on
narkot1k@reddit
No, its something hardcore tankie commies like hasan piker and white supremacist nick fuentes (gay mexican) agree on. All normal people are largely on the side of functioning civilizations like us and israel against third world shitholes like iran, venezuela, cuba etc
Guststorm@reddit
why not both?
the_capibarin@reddit
Anon agrees with an islamic theocracy
oni_no_onii-chan@reddit
If you're not a brainwashed liberal tool you can see israel is a more hardliner theocracy compared to iran. Theocracy doesn't mean "when no gays"
There's no occasion in israel that not rabbi approved.
the_capibarin@reddit
The fuck are you talking about, they literally put the theocracy bit in their own name, and the supreme leader has to be a religious authority
Israel, on the other hand, is a functioning democracy with a large non-religious wing of politics and no lifetime appoinments

oby100@reddit
I struggle to really understand what you’re getting at.
Bibi has controlled the country with the ultra religious right for the last few decades, but this can change through the regular democratic process. Iran cannot change to secular unless the entire government is upended.
cplusequals@reddit
Bibi's party is actually the (more) center-right party there. They're just the largest one. He's in coalition with the more fundamentalist party, though.
Dronite@reddit
>if you're not a brainwashed liberal tool...
