Looking for a front pocket flashlight
Posted by Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit | preppers | View on Reddit | 50 comments
Hi preppers, hope this is an easy one. I'm looking for the type of tactical flashlight that one can wear clipped to their front pocket or hold in their hand. For example, the protagonists in The Last of Us use these types of lights. My googling is not helpful - does anyone know what these types of lights are called, or have a source for that kind of gear? Thank you in advance.

O-light makes some things.... Aside from this little guy I have one of their special edition ArkPro's. https://www.olight.com/store

I have streamlights, thru light, Olight, but I keep a trusty set of Milwaukee lights on my person going on close to 10 years now. neck light Also pivot head trusty 10 year light I take youth camping with the BSA, I also work mechanical jobs, having a strong magnet on this light means I can work hands free, I have never used the clip on it, both lights use the same battery.

Im an electrician and I bought this Klein flashlight a couple years ago and it has been in daily use. Its not fancy but it has 2 different beam strengths, an adjustable beam focus, has a laser pointer, a magnetic ass, and has the capability of breaking glass with the front end.
Would be first choice, personally. Its cheap, too. Like 30 bucks at Platt or Home Depot.
The only issue is that, if you break the clip, you cant just buy a replacement clip. Klein makes you buy a whole new flashlight. Fuckers.

Olight Oclip Pro is very small and packs a great punch for its small size

That's a really nice one. Bit pricey but the brand has good products

Check out r/flashlights An absolute rabbit hole you can go down and new hobby you can spend lots of money. Still cool though.

Thank you, but I also do not thank you, lol

My EDC flashlight for years has been a Streamlight ProTac 2 AA flashlight. I've probably bought ten of them for different bags and as gifts. I doubt any of mine are less than 10 years old and they've been subjected to all manner of use and abuse.
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
That's awesome, thank you

I have both the Microstream and Macrostream. Macro is brighter but both are small enough for front pockets.
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
Thank you, I'm an Old so I want maximum brightness.
ajkimmins@reddit
Macro is 500 lumens on high. Micro is 250...

Side note regarding streamlight. I had this exact same one and after years of hard use the tail cap switch stopped working. I called streamlight and they shipped me a whole new flashlight no questions asked. Hard to beat that level of customer service.

Will +1 for Streamlight.
Been a user of their Sidewinder series for a while. Those models will have issues with the push switch. Have sent in at least 3 and all have been returned, repaired at NC.

Wuben g5 is very compact and clips on to clothes/hat/etc
falxarius@reddit
Olight ArkPro Series I am carrying one every day, best light ever with white and UV light , ... and for fun a green laser, ... also rechargeable
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
Thanks! How powerful is the laser?
V1ld0r_@reddit
It's a laser pointer type. Great for presentations or highlighting something in a dark-ish ceiling, etc. It's not one of those massive 500mW 10km astro pointing ones
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
Okay, thank you!

I love my wuben g5. Also check out zebralight.

Honestly, flashlight tech has come a long way in the last 20 years.
The days of buying name brand custom... are gone. I picked up some cheap chinese rechargeable flashlights and gave them out at Christmas.
I beat the recharging port to death, but I knew I was causing problems at the time. The rest are running great with heavy daily use.
I bought some tiny ones for me and gifted a few to some people. These are still running strong. Mine is EDC . Others get traveled and not used much.

This site is great for comparing different flashlights, or filtering based on the features you want:

Like others, I'd recommend a right-angle light with a magnetic tailcap. The smaller ones may even come with a headband and a pocket clip, so you can use them either way. Some examples:
Decide early on if you want more of a "spot" vs "flood" beam. The floody beams are better for up-close task work and headlamp around the house, while the spot beams are better for caving or outdoor use.

Wurkkos HD03 is one that fits the bill from the sounds of things.
Impressive-Fun-6921@reddit
is that a flashlight or are you just happy to see me?
SPR95634@reddit
flashlight
Something like this?
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
Yes, thank you!
SPR95634@reddit
I use Streamlight for all lights. Batteries recharge, have a long life and they are durable. Bonus you can clip to your cap for an improvised headlamp
TheCarcissist@reddit
Check out a coastKL35R. Super inexpensive and awesome.
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
Thank you so much, I have used Coast lights before and they are pretty good so I will check this one out.
TheCarcissist@reddit
I bought 3 already, it has a flood light on the side and a standard flashlight on the end, its tiny, it has decent battery life, and it has a clip that can go on the shirt or hat. It also has red light mode on the flood

Wurkkos HD11 Right Angle Flashlight would be a good multipurpose alternative

Rovyvon is the best when it comes to pocketable, versatile flashlights without going into boutique territory.
The clear models with LEDs on the side that can be used as lanterns are incredible for what they are.

Thanks so much!

Was coming here to say the same! I have one of these and honestly use it everyday. It’s a workhorse.
And I’m a woman and it fits in my tiny ladies jean pocket!
dittybopper_05H@reddit
I carry a couple of Olights. One is a small cylindrical one, and the other is one I can clip to a shirt pocket or a headband. It's also got a magnet so it'll stick to ferrous metals.
Save Ferrous!
buttchugreferee@reddit
I've been carrying a Zebralight every single day for almost 15 years.

Etsy has the exact flashlight if youre into coplaying.
Runner flashlight off Amazon is more practical.
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
Haha that's funny. Not so much a cosplay situation, I do need something that actually functions.
Seth0351USMC@reddit
I have considered the tilt-head flashlights but I think that a head lamp is more efficient in most scenarios.
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
You're not wrong but I do want one of these flashlights because it suits my specific purpose.
TheSensiblePrepper@reddit
Joel would have been better off with a Headlamp. That way the light moves with his head and not his body.
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
I had the same thought except that probably would have been hard to film.
On a practical note I do get annoyed wearing headlamps sometimes as they aren't that comfortable.
TheSensiblePrepper@reddit
Then you might need to get a better one. While everyone has cheaper options, I have my $100+ Fenix that I wear when I go hunting. It is comfortable to wear for hours.
Consider wearing a hat of some kind and put it over that.
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
I do like my Light and Motion 360 that has the bulk of the weight in the back, but it's not practical to buy tons of those expensive ones. I always wear a hat but sometimes they are just annoying to wear.
TheSensiblePrepper@reddit
I can understand that.
DeFiClark@reddit
Generically, “angle head flashlights”
More modern ones are “tilt head flashlights”
Nitecore MT21C, streamlight 88830 etc
Miss_L_Worldwide@reddit (OP)
Perfect, thank you so much!
