Do you prefer card mode or compact mode?

I know Reddit also defaults to card mode, but is there anyone who prefers compact mode?

Wouldn't you have to have suffered some sort of catastrophic brain injury to prefer card mode?

Compact hands down. And I always nope out of "Best" immediately. Why the fuck do I want to see something from three days ago at the top of my feed? I understand it has something to do with the algorithm and in some way benefits Reddit financially, but for the life of me I cannot wrap my brain around how.

Yes I’m not a big fan of Reddit, but I usually stick with “Hot.” I don’t get why Reddit doesn’t let you freely set a default UX, like Compact view or Hot feed. Even if I change the settings, when I browse other subreddits it switches back to the default feed style, Best and Card mode.

PieFed/Lemmy both let you change those kinds of defaults, and they have many good 3rd party mobile apps

Because giving users the option to change would mean most people would pick compact mode. And because compact mode requires less scrolling, it means user spends less time to get same info which hurts their metrics and also less ability to show ads.
In screenshots, notice 10 posts in compact mode vs barely 3 in card mode.
Card mode forces users to scroll much longer, more ability to show ads.
It's a dark pattern.

Compact mode.

I prefer card mode because my eyes are already used to it thanks to most apps like instagram, facebook, twitter, reddit, and youtube.
