How to backpack cheaply across Canada and how to find friends with the same goals as me along the way

Hitchhiking will save you money but can be risky and very time consuming. Camp. Stay in hostels. For other accommodation, check out BeWelcome or HomeStay (the website- not the home stay option on Booking.com). Cook your own food or buy prepared food direct from a grocery store. To meet other budget travellers, staying at hostels is best. Nothing is cheap here - not even camping fees. Travelling long distances by bus is not cheap and in many places, impossible as Greyhound shut down their Canadian operations.
Your trip can be done, but will require planning, patience and luck.

To backpack cheaply, focus on staying in budget spots, cooking your own meals, and traveling light. You can meet fellow travelers along the way by chatting with people at hostels or on the trail

Ya no chance. Flights are pricey. Train is crazy pricey. Hotels are nuts. Go to literally any other country on earth lol

It’s cheaper for me to vacation outside of Canada than within Canada… take that as you will lol.

Please don’t, Google “highway of tears”.
Canada is vast, sparsely populated

My biggest tip for staying cheap bulk barn and no name brand.

Canada’s amazing, but distances will surprise you, so buses and ride shares end up being your best friend on a budget. For meeting people, hostels and even just chatting at campsites go a long way, everyone’s kind of in the same wandering mindset.
Some of my best travel meals and conversations came from random hostel kitchens where everyone just throws something together and shares stories. Feels like half the experience is the people you bump into along the way.

You would take the trans Canada trail. It supposedly takes about 2.5 years to complete. I haven't looked into it since the pandemic. Canada is expensive, so I don't know if it could be done cheaply or not

Canada has too much empty space to do this the way you’d imagine in Europe. It’s much better built for an extended road trip

Its only 7100 from St. John's to Victoria.

Kilometers?

It's not possible at all-this is an expensive place with poor intercity transportation and large empty spaces which although here's little to see cost a small fortune to cross.
