Lo2NL@reddit
Another huge, overweight GT filled with tech for 200k. Yawn.
ZaskarYYC@reddit
If you are going by what others generally claim, that the 992 is larger than the 991, unless you are looking at a 991 C2 narrow body vs the 992.2 that are all wide bodies, not the case. They are, for all practically, the same size.
What is lighter? When you consider the size increase, additional safety and emission requirements, from the 996/997 to the 991/992, it is shocking it is not heavier. I cannot imagine anyone outside a professional can "feel" the weight difference. Do you notice when you fuel tank is full vs empty? : )
Manuals. Bucket Seats
997.2 GT3 3075 lbs
991.2 GT3 3115
992.2 GT3 3130
ilikerwd@reddit
From the article “Each version targets a different type of enthusiast”. What a laugh. They all target the same overcompensating Porsche “collector” that is willing to buy 3 Cayennes and 2 Taycans so that he/she can keep up with the neighbors.
AutoNextOfficial@reddit (OP)
That's probably a US thing...
ilikerwd@reddit
I don't know about every country. I am in Mexico and it is exactly this way.
AutoNextOfficial@reddit (OP)
In Europe it's really different vibe luckily!
ZaskarYYC@reddit
I am in Canada and while I am sure there are those that buy on speculation, to keep up, and to be a garage queen. Not the case with the people I know. We all drive them, on the street and track.
From my experience, Porsche is the most common car you see at HPDE track days. Often out numbering all other makes 2:1 in my neck of the woods.
Hardac_@reddit
Since my first year in college I was dying to own a 911. Now 20 years later, especially with the 992.2 generation, I just don't care anymore. They've completely lost the plot with pricing and this model over saturation. A shame man. But then again, my love for cars has been slowly dying these past of couple of years as a whole, so its probably a me problem. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Beastbamboo@reddit
I used to want a 911 so badly. Now I'm a full fledged surgeon and could afford one - but I just don't see the desire. The corvette does everything it does for less, and I don't have to play Porsches how wide can you open your asshole game. Plus there's McLaren, Aston, and a host of other players in the range.
ZaskarYYC@reddit
The C8 is amazing. As long as you don't mind inconsistent body panel gaps and the general build quality. Nothing can touch it for the price and few for twice the price.
Fortunately I am in Canada and no dealer I know does the ADM on new builds. Assuming you can get one. Not sure how McLaren is in that regard. I am told Ferrari is brutal.
McLaren... Depricate like crazy which is good if you are buying used. Can't maintain them yourself and not exactly reliable. They are beautiful.
Aston...poor build quality and reliablity. I looked at a top end vantage with a carbon roof. The gap was noticablely wider between the carbon and A pillar on one side and there was adhesive visiable. Not acceptable at that price point IMO.
Perhaps Ferrari with their new warranty and seven year maintainence.
lostfate2005@reddit
Is there something that requires you to buy a new one?
willpc14@reddit
I have negative desire to own and maintain a 991.2 or 992.1 911 out of warranty.
BWFTW@reddit
Do they have a reputation for being unreliable? I thought the 3.0 turbo was supposed to be stout.
willpc14@reddit
I don't think they're particularly unreliable, but everything is packaged so tightly that you're going to have to disassemble half the car to perform some maintenance items. Also, the adaptive suspension will fail (or need maintenance) at some point and be a huge PITA to fix.
ZaskarYYC@reddit
You are mistaken. They are designed to be easy to work on.
I have owned a 718 GTS and currently have a 991.2 GT3 (up for sale shortly), a 991.2 GT3 RS, a 992.2 Carrera T, and have a 2027 allocation for a GT3 touring.
I cannot comment on the 992.2. New, under warranty, and I have a service contract.
The 981/982/991.1/991.2 chassis are very easy to work on and maintain. The 992.2 is a refinement for these chassis so I suspect it is easy to work on as well. I did my own regular service and maintenance as well as complete suspension, roll cage, brakes, exhaust and so on. By far the easiest cars I have worked on.
GTS 46k kms when I sold it, zero problems. Tuned with plenty of track days. Current own is a friend, still zero issues.
GT3 44k kms, zero problems. This was my track rat. One problem which was not the cars’ fault. Dirty rads caused the ECU to put it in limp mode on a very hot track day. Pulled off the bumper, cleaned the rads with a hose, good to go a couple hours later. That was five years ago, not a problem since. I will put that one on the original owner.
GT3 RS Just picked it up in December.
Carrera T only 6k kms so far, zero problems.
Another interesting thing with Porsche that few realize. As long as the car is still under warranty, you can extend it for up to 11 years/15 total / unlimited kms before the warranty is up. And no, you do not have to commit to an additional 11 years or miss the boat. Extend it a year or two, when it is up, do it again. Of course, it is more affordable the more years you pay for up front. It is the same as the original warranty and through Porsche. None of this 3rd party BS other dealers/manufactures offer. As for cost, it was less to extend the warranty for two years on my GT3 than my same year Q7.
Not to say there are never any problems. Like any car, things can go wrong and regular proper maintenance is key. No car today is like a car from 20 years ago. IMO that is a good thing. Generally speaking, most people I know with 997s onward, even hte 997.1 with the IMS, have had zero problems and they all drive and track their cars.
This is a great video. He bought a scrapped 718 to show how it is engineered.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5Z-QXLdsMo
With that said, if you cannot do the work yourself and something goes wrong, it can quickly get expensive.
And yes, I drank the Porsche Cool-Aid : ) Purely based on my experience with the 718 and the fact that seeing other makes and models, no matter the cost, break down at the track is a regular occurrence. Porsche on the other hand, no so much. You really can track them on Sunday and drive them to work on Monday.
lostfate2005@reddit
I have had zero issues personally but I understand the hesitation
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
Not OP, but there's a few reasons why one might be leery of shopping used for these specific vehicles.
lostfate2005@reddit
Good points, I would say though
At 100k plus level it should be easy to get financing through your own bank if you need it. I assume someone buying a 911 should have a good relationship with their bank. I bought mine cash but would have used my bank if needed instead of dealer
Warranty is easy to come by through third party imo. I got a 7 year warranty on my Turbo S and cayenne
Zero disagreement there, sadly that’s the world we live in now
DaggumTarHeels@reddit
I don't disagree with any of those, there's great arguments for buying new or used.
And I generally agree that one should pay cash for one of these vehicles, if you're buying a $100K toy, you should be able to afford 2 of them.
ZaskarYYC@reddit
Drive one, just saying...
The_GeneralsPin@reddit
It's not you, modern cars are just not interesting at all. They're all shaped by marketing graduates and accountants and now IT programmers.
Engineering is like a lost art
Redditall63@reddit
I’m glad it’s not just me dissuaded by the new prices. A lightly optioned base Carrera is now circa mid AU$300k. I really don’t see the value proposition anymore. A GT3 is mid 500k. It’s mental.

professionalgriefer@reddit
Have you thought about of transitioning to the corvette camp? There are plenty of cars that are still affordable relative to the 911 counterparts.
OmAerial@reddit
^ This is what I did. Found a Red C5 z06 for $19,500. Its a blast.
antidentites@reddit
I was the same way before I bought a Macan GTS. The maintenance alone at the dealership was crazy expensive and after 5 years of ownership I sold it right as the warranty expired. It also had an “engine out” repair for an over-tightened bolt, which turned me off to the brand.
I know a 911 is a much more fun driver, but I will never go back to Porsche after my ownership experience.
I’m now in a much slower vehicle (Lexus LC), but the reliability and lower maintenance costs are totally worth it.
FlashAndPoof@reddit
I feel the exact same way!!! I’ll occasionally pine for one as it drives by, and I’ll keep telling myself maybe someday. But the price just keeps soaring to the point I’d rather have a lifetime of vacations instead.
Rabo_McDongleberry@reddit
Yep. Similar boat. I'm burnt out from Porsche's greed and bullshit. They might be great cars, but they've always been a little emotionless to me. Now moreso than ever.
thick_plottens@reddit
it doesn't help that every iteration seems to get more sterile and uninspired looking than the one before
generalistinterests@reddit
992 is the sexiest in many generations.
generalistinterests@reddit
Was your dream to own the newest one? Why not buy the specific car you wanted then?
Not everything is for you. If you can’t afford it and don’t want it Porsche doesn’t care because they sell every one they build.
perennialpurist@reddit
My personal view is that peak 911 was the 991.2 gen GT3 Touring. More mass produced than the 911 R, so you could get it at a decent price when it first came out but limited enough to be special long term. Proper 6-speed manual, high revving flat 6 with no particulate filters. The 992 gen maybe technically a better car but not only are there far more of them now between the GT3 RS, GT3, GT3 Touring and S/T (and there’s one more of those I think?), but somehow they are also each far more expensive than the 991 version despite having a higher production numbers.
WarDEagle@reddit
You don’t have to buy a new one…
troon43@reddit
I’m feeling the same way. Even used ones are hard to justify
stuser@reddit
And it will look almost exactly the same as it has for the last 30 years. Hah.
robaier@reddit
Hey hey hey, they extended the rear carbon diffuser by .0125 mm and changed the angle of the DRL by 0.7 degrees. Show some respect
ZaskarYYC@reddit
It is 25mm bump stops which make a huge difference when you are starting with short travel to begin with : )
knowledgeable_diablo@reddit
And changed the shape of the headlight for a little spell. This was like redefining the geographical boundaries of every country in Europe just for shits and giggles.
Atompunk78@reddit
I quote the head engineer saying one of the biggest changes introduced with the current gen 911 was a redesign of the suspension bushings to get 0.1mm more suspension travel lmfao
gumol@reddit
can you link the interview? sounds hilarious
Atompunk78@reddit
It was in a SavageGeese video, though I’m sorry but I can’t remember which one
Sandy_Koufax@reddit
Which is funny considering it’s probably still within spec for a Mustang being a couple mm off in suspension travel.
Atompunk78@reddit
Absolutely lmfao
3MATX@reddit
Maybe we finally move from the four led headlight design to five!
Oh and certainly going to have another annoying full width brake light.
Santa_Hates_You@reddit
There. Are. Four. Lights!
3MATX@reddit
Read that in a stereotypical German English accent haha. Ni ni no changes!
BeigeChocobo@reddit
And with the $39k optional Fuchsyerwallet package it saves 2 pounds over a standard version. You'd be a fool not to spring for that, otherwise your resale value will be destroyed.
Bau5_Sau5@reddit
It’s not a new model it’s just a new trim. I’m pretty sure this is the GT3 CAB
deamonhacker3333@reddit
Yep it’s a GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
Calvinkelly@reddit
As we all want it to be
Op3rat0rr@reddit
Timeless design is harder than it sounds imo
SwissMargiela@reddit
People keep saying it’s timeless but I’ve been sick of it for a decade now 😭
BWFTW@reddit
Different things for different people. If you don't like it don't buy it. That's not to say you have bad taste, judging by your flair you have awesome taste. Just everyone wants different things.
SerialExperimentLean@reddit
Can you imagine the bitching on here if they actually changed it lol
Op3rat0rr@reddit
I mean it will be changed but I know what you mean. Lexus is another good example imo
OwnPermission95@reddit
The one time they changed it people hated it and it’s still the least desirable generation
freewayghost@reddit
I'm blanking, which one diverted, egg yolk?
FatMonkeyMilk@reddit
Well I'd prefer if it doesn't change lol
SecretPantyWorshiper@reddit
GT2RS?
deamonhacker3333@reddit
GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
SecretPantyWorshiper@reddit
What is the Cabriolet? Just a GT3 Touring?
AnonymousEngineer_@reddit
No chance if that's the actual car underneath the covers, since there's no rear wing on it.
cleevethagreat@reddit
GT2 RS
deamonhacker3333@reddit
No it’s a GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
nlogras1@reddit
New 992 GT2RS?
deamonhacker3333@reddit
No it’s a GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
VitoXzX@reddit
Probably a Carrera GTS with a dark matte, almost black, Himalayan Adamantium Blue, with chrome
deamonhacker3333@reddit
No it’s a GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
WarDEagle@reddit
Sounds awesome.
woodsides@reddit
992.2 GT3 cab I imagine. I really like what they did with the Spyder RS, I hope they carry it forward. That roof is the worst piece of shit ever designed in Germany but everything else is fantastic. Luckily, it has never rained while I was driving it but there's no way in hell I'm stopping to put that thing up if it starts pouring.
I've always been a fan of the looks of the targa. That combined with the GT3 engine and chassis will be phenomenal. Can't wait for this thing!
deamonhacker3333@reddit
Yep it’s a GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
copy_run_start@reddit
Does anyone have any idea of what it might look like? Or are we completely in the dark for this reveal? Are there similar cars that they make have taken inspiration from?
deamonhacker3333@reddit
GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
Bau5_Sau5@reddit
Look up 991 speedster , it’s just a cab 911 GT3
VitoXzX@reddit
Probably a Ferrari 488
FlorydaMan@reddit
Lol is this a joke?
Hardac_@reddit
Since the 992.2 generation just started, I wouldn't get my hopes up for any significant visual differences.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
If this isn’t the Speedster and is a genuine GT3 Cab, they’re really fucking milking their customers at this point. This is like that Family Guy skit where Stephen King is in his publisher’s office, and when he’s asked what his new book is about, he says it’s about a spooky, haunted lamp, and his publisher sighs and says, “Have it on my desk next week.”
Waiting for the GT3 RS Cab.
deamonhacker3333@reddit
GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
AnonymousEngineer_@reddit
The Speedster wouldn't have the profile of whatever it is underneath that cover because of how the roof works.
I wonder if they're going to make a GT3 Targa to sit alongside the Touring.
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
Yeah, the lack of a tonneau cover was the hint it wasn’t, so I guess this is the Speedster for the masses.
woodsides@reddit
I don't get the "they're all 911s" shtick tbh. Turbo S vs Targa vs GT3RS vs GT2RS vs ST are vastly different experiences for anyone who's actually driven them.
Similarly, this won't be a just GT3 with it's roof chopped off, just like the ST wasn't "just a GT3RS without the wing'.
JacksterTO@reddit
With the exception of the extreme models... many of the other 911 variants are "more of the same thing".
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
I didn’t say that at all.
RevvCats@reddit
Over under on how limited the production run will be?
BWFTW@reddit
If it's the gt3 rs they are technically "unlimited", just capped by factory allocation I think. IIRC the 911 production line basically just runs at max capacity. Maybe they could allocate more away from other trims to the gt3 trims, but they can't just make more gt3s without making less of other trims. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but that was my understanding.
deamonhacker3333@reddit
GT3 Cabriolet. Already seen it at an exclusive event.
Sukpreme@reddit
Limited to 50. Priced at $350,000. All units already sold - can buy on the used market day after release for $750,000,000,000.99.
Bigdongergigachad@reddit
“1 of 1 in poopenbuttzergen braun with canary yellow interior”
Sargatanas2k2@reddit
I really hope that colour and name actually exists.
hardinho@reddit
I'm German and I'm telling you it could.
RevvCats@reddit
That better be a plaid canary yellow interior
agray20938@reddit
That's nonsense. In all seriousness, it will be limited to 75, priced at $350k, all units already sold, and can buy on the used market 6 months after release for $900k.
Cranjesmcbasketball1@reddit
This guy Porsche's
EngineeringKid@reddit
Will they go the ferrari route? "We'll make only 400!"
- Turns around and sells 1000 but they aren't individually numbered other than VIN
deamonhacker3333@reddit
It’s a 911 GT3 Cabriolet. Was showcased the car few weeks ago in an exclusive event.
M4roon@reddit
Porsche has become the jordan 1s of the car world. There's already 100 billion and everyone in this city has some variation. Don't really care.
layfrijhis@reddit
Ah yes, the annual “it looks the same” followed by “okay wait, I love it” cycle begins.
PandaApprehensive131@reddit
I bet it will look just like the current 911 which has always looked like a 911 but this one comes with really nice mud flaps.
methodactyl@reddit
In B4 350k starting price
saarlac@reddit
and it will look exactly like the last 30
tkhan456@reddit
Either way, it’ll be overpriced, too few will be made, and they’ll already be sold out. If you want one, you need to buy 3 other Porsches first or lease some shitty selling ones and then you’ll have the option to possibly get on a list to order one
alecww3@reddit
Too poor to care
ZaheerAlGhul@reddit
They're going to raise prices aren't they? Base 911 might start at 145k sooner or later.
s3cf_@reddit
it already looks huge under the car cover
generalistinterests@reddit
A new one or some limited edition? Those are different things.
Born4Nothin@reddit
911 has looked the same since 2006 lmfao
sleepyguy007@reddit
oh wow!, the 911 ST plus plus plus, touring gt17 black edition 60th anniversary RS elite. only $500k coming to an air sealed humidor soon
dayvieee@reddit
I thought the new one just came out?
derouville@reddit
I just want to see a new Honda Ridgeline. Please, Honda, how much longer must we wait?

turb0_encapsulator@reddit
"GT3 cabriolet" is ridiculous. Do a Speedster.
Hackwork89@reddit
How does anyone give a shit what a new Porsche looks like?
costafilh0@reddit
GOOD NEWS
Porsche is launching another Beetle!
A_Coin_Toss_Friendo@reddit
They make a new 911 variant every two months, come on.
Practical-Pick1466@reddit
So fifty people with a special relationship with porsche already seen and purchased all the vehicles , then what's the big deal about having an unveiling. Its basically like one person placed an order with the bespoke division and had a bunch of cars made. BFD
vetruviusdeshotacon@reddit
200,000 bucks for a 100,000 dollar car

dL_EVO@reddit

kaelis7@reddit
I’m sure it will be very reasonably priced given the recent financial struggles at Porsche…
