That’s the exact look we both had as the sun continued to rise quickly above the horizon! Shortly after this last pic it was too bright to take any more pics! But it never gets old…

Departing Singapore or thereabouts?
Own-Break-7025@reddit (OP)
Singapore, 🇸🇬 no. Further east. Departed 1830L and had approximately 5.5 hours of legit night time before the sunrise.
PotatoBreds@reddit
Someone on here armed with ADSB exchange is going to be able to work out what you had for breakfast this morning with that information
jeaguilar@reddit
Eggs, scrambled. Bread, 30% toasted. Coffee, black.

How's Samar island this time of year?
^(i have no idea but how freaked out would you be if i was right)
LowPomegranate225@reddit
What do you do then? I don't think just sunglasses are enough for the ENTIRE sun?

What plane is it?Quite fast and high!
urban_tribesman@reddit
CRJ700
Brushdragger9000@reddit
Gulfstream G650
Glasgesicht@reddit
FL450 is crazy, had no idea those jets could even fly that high.
Lawsoffire@reddit
Pretty low AoA for that FL too. Helps that its going pretty damn fast i suppose.
Hank_moody71@reddit
It’s max ceiling is 51,000
CounterSimple3771@reddit
Well you just walked right in here and dropped your huge wang on the table.
Bravo, sir. Jeff bezos pilot?
PrismDoug@reddit
Is the 800 Bezos level money? Is it more than the BBJ?
The last Gulfstream I remember looking into was the one my dad’s friend had back in the late 80s/90s, the G4.
I don’t think he was Bezos money, but heck, he might be close-ish?
Swimming_Way_7372@reddit
Pretty sure Bezos has a 700. Bigger than the 800.
Final_Beyond_204@reddit
Thanks:)
GE90man@reddit
It’s either a G700/800 becuase of the right side HUD. No other Gulfstreams were certified with an HUD on both sides. Also the rest of the instruments/panels are used be the G500/600 and G700/800.
Own-Break-7025@reddit (OP)
Correct! G800, Symmetry Flight Deck, Dual HUD.
From the Gulfstream website: The dual head-up display features Gulfstream’s new Combined Vision System (CVS) that unites Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) and Synthetic Vision System (SVS) in a single image, helping increase pilot situational awareness and access to more airports.
LearningDumbThings@reddit
650 doesn’t have a HUD on the right side. 700/800.
Lawsoffire@reddit
How actually useful is the HUD on civilian aircraft? It looks super cool and i suppose it gets you looking out the window more than checking your screens, but i feel like the screens present things better than HUDs. I feel like the instant information is rarely needed while just following a flight-plan.
Used-Pilot5160@reddit
These are glasses or additional lenses.
Eaglesson@reddit
If waveguide hud systems weren't so damn expensive I'd install one with a cheap LWIR camera feed in my car immediately

Not bad for a veterinarian.

Serious question: If you're flying over an ocean like this, does a higher flight level equate to a longer glide distance should something go seriously wrong and the craft loses all engine power?
Or are there some diminishing returns related to the increased altitude such as less dense atmosphere affecting the ability to glide or maybe diminishing available engine power or - later - control surface effectiveness?
Related: Does flying at a higher altitude make a measurable difference in the length of the flight time between departure and destination? (depending on the direction you are traveling, I assume?)
daccount97@reddit
Great shot
MarioInOntario@reddit
Can anyone elaborate on what each number on that hud means and why it’s useful to have it?
Swimming_Way_7372@reddit
Its all the same shit you would see on the screen below the glare shield. It's useful to have because you dont have to look away to see any info.

JazznBlues_lover@reddit
Honestly, I'm more worried about the stray goose flying at FL450 /s
12172031@reddit
I'm no pilot but I've played a bit of flight sim and here's what I think those numbers mean.
Top left, the 43 with the arrow, I think that the wind speed and direction indicator, as shown, that mean the plane is experiencing a 43 nm tail wind.
HDG AS, heading something I dont know.
GS 571, ground speed 571 nm
AOA 0.48, angle of attack.
On the top, the FMS MACH and ALT with the box around it is the auto pilot mode currently active. FMS mean it's following a flight plan, the numbers on the right side is detail of the flight plan. MACH mean the auto throttle is in Mach hold mode, which is current set to .90 mach. the ALT mean it's in altitude hold mode, which is set at 45,000 ft.
The column underneath the FMS is the speed indicator. .90 on top is what the auto throttle setting is at in MACH number, the middle portion is the current speed, the 248 at the bottom is the indicated air speed.
The column underneath the ALT is the altitude indicator. the 45000 is the selected altitude and below is the current altitude indicator.
The thing underneath MACH is the bank angle indicator, I think each line is 5 degree, the number 77 is the current heading.
The W in the middle is where the nose of the plane is pointed at, the cross underneath that is where the plane is actually heading, the horizontal line is the horizon indicator with compass indicator, it's showing that it's at compass heading 77 degree.
Illustrious-Run3591@reddit
The main ones are, the numbers in a vertical column on the left are the speed of the aircraft in mach, so mach 0.9. On the right is altitude, showing 45,000 feet. Between those two columns is the Angle of Attack and Heading indicators, angle of attack is how far up or down the plane points, heading is what direction.
Up the top it says FMS, flight management system, the flight computer is controlling the autopilot rather than other options like a radio navigation source. Next to FMS it says MACH, meaning the plane is in mach hold mode I assume and the autothrottle is keeping it at mach 0.9. Lastly on the right it says ALT, meaning altitude is set. These are all autopilot settings that are activated.

Fantastic photo OP!. And very nice job on the camera work. You've managed to capture the essential points of the moment by holding the camera nice & level. The sky horizon is dead center and very nice & even. Most people don't realize how important that aspect is to make a photo very pleasing to the eye.
Do you mind if I X-post this to /r/pics? I will give you full credit of course.
Own-Break-7025@reddit (OP)
Absolutely! No worries! Thank you for the feedback. I tried to get what you described but credit goes to the iPhone 16 Pro.
JazznBlues_lover@reddit
Damn, it's amazing how good the quality is on the newer phones. I'm embarrassed to tell you which model of iPhone I'm still using.
As for my critique of your pic, I truly meant what I said earlier. Even though your camera might be of high quality, it doesn't mean much if the person holding it doesn't know how to use it. It's remarkable how you held the camera so nice & level as to place the horizon dead center - it's one of the golden rules of photography. 50/50 (sky / ground). And it's super level - not tilted at all!
unwise-account-name@reddit
Technically, you (probably) can't really claim to have been up "all" night if you're heading 077 at 571 knots. :D Beautiful photo!
DirectorSharp3402@reddit
Almost 600mph at 45,000 ft. Love it.
LearningDumbThings@reddit
It’s about 660mph.
Hank_moody71@reddit
Nautical miles per hour. Much faster.
DrEarlGreyIII@reddit
0.77 mach is close to 600 mph , and is roughly 520kts.
Hank_moody71@reddit
The AC is showing Mach .91 and a ground speed of 570kts
655mph

Nice, how do you like it? I've never flown a 650, but we're getting an 800 next year. I'm current on the 600 and I love it coming from the 550.
