Let's say two women are 24 years old and lost their virginity at 16. One has had 10 sexual partners, the other 6.

The one with a body count of 10 has had one partner roughly every 10 months. She was dating all of them and didn't have sex with them until dating for at least 3 months. The relationships ended for different reasons, but never bad, and all of her partners were decent people. It just never worked out.

The individual with a body count of 6 has had 2 one night stands, slept with one guy in exchange for free weed, one musician who invited her backstage at a concert, and has two exes that were shit bags, but were attractive and/or threw money around so she put up with them.

Which of them is more promiscuous? Body count doesn't mean much by itself, but it can be an indicator. Is your count over in the 20s or even higher? That indicates either a frivolous and unserious attitude towards sex, which is absolutely a red flag for faithfulness concerns, or it can indicate poor judgment of character (or poor character yourself) if you have that many legitimate relationships that fail.

Sexual conversation shouldn't be ostracized so much, and it is completely legitimate to be curious about your partners history. The overwhelming majority of marriages that end in divorce do so because of two things, sex and money. Don't let anyone call you shallow because you're concerned about something that absolutely could destroy your life 5, 10, or even 50 years down the line.

10 is not a high body count for this scenario. I agreed with the sentiment of your first part. I knew someone in college with a body count of 40 and her boyfriend had a count of 80 (but I always figured he was lying). What’s funny is they broke up after she told him her count, but he shared first.

The point being, unless it’s really extreme then it really wouldn’t raise my eyebrows. There are so many other characteristics which better show compatibility and personality. Dysfunction behavior (red flags) was always something I kept my eye out for when I was dating (i.e. inability to trust, possessiveness, overly dependent, etc). Even these aren’t bad, permanently damaged people; they’re just not ready to date yet and dating isn’t going to fix them.

Again, with a starting point of 18 years old, that'd mean that she had 29 years to fuck all these people. 300 people across 29 years is once every 35 days. Less than once a month. Again, does that sound unrealistic to you? Because it really isn't. Especially nowadays.

Now I will give one caveat, it’s easier if you’re separate from her previous experiences geographically or whatever. Like if you’re dating a girl in a different city from wherever she did her ho phase or a different workplace cause even if you’re pretty secure, it’s disconcerting to be sitting next to her and get served a drink by a bartender who you know once hooked up with your girl. If you want my personal opinion beyond that, doing anything with someone else for the sexual gratification of any or all parties is morally reprehensible outside of a commited relationship. Flirting is fine, as long as you aren't dirty talking because that goes back to being about sexual gratification. Flirting or any of the previous things are not okay if either party is in a relationship with a third party (not that I should even have to add that).

No, telling your partner everything sexual you ever did is not the point at all, indeed that's the exact opposite of the point. The point is to determine what sexual contact means to the person, how they view and have viewed sex in the past. Determining what percetage of their sexual partners they were in longterm commited relationships with is the important bit. I don't care what they did within those relationships, I do care about how many people they have done other stuff with outside of those relationships-- setting it as a percentage instead of a "body count" just softens the inquiry. Yes there are better and worse types of contact outside of a relationship, and there are things that are sexually explicit that I care about too such as camgirling or exhibitionism or what have you, but those are separate lines of questioning. Still important, but separate.

As for you, as I said, no, I would just say "about what percentage of your sexual partners have you been in commited longterm relationships with", and if you want to go down the line of "well what would you consider a sexual partner", then we would find a reasonable definition and you would answer. If you want to then qualify it with another statement like "But they were mostly just touching" that's up to you.

It should not be orgasms. If you have a dozen gangbangs with a hundred different people, but none of them ejaculate for whatever reason, I'd still count all of them as sexual partners.
