Worked there throughout these, they were ok but didn't sell as much as pretty much anything else. The first Arch Deluxe, with the kidney-shaped meat and that seasoning, though, that was good before they changed to just using quarter meat.

I must be mis-remembering, but I thought the the "zs" in the word Pizza were the McDonalds "M" on it's side. Stupid cornucopia.

Whatever Happened to Pizza at McDonald’s is the best podcast or Investigative Journalism program (IJP) tackling this subject out there. It’s found wherever you get your podcasts and I’d start right at the very beginning.

I remember getting these a few times in high school in the 90’s. They were pretty mediocre but not awful.

The McDonald's in my college town had these. They weren't great, but they were cheap and quick, so I ate an unhealthy share of them. The pepperoni pizza was actually semi decent.

There is a great episode of Everything 80’s podcast that talks about this. Apparently one of the issues a lot of franchises had was due to the drive through windows being too small, they couldn’t pass the pizzas through the window and a lot of them had to retrofit their drive throughs to accommodate the pizza size.

We talked about it in a business class a long time ago. Pizza slower down food times and slowed down turnover times on tables. If they kept them in the menu it would have cost money over time

They were trialled in my province in Canada. I thought they were just fine for the speed and the price.

They had these in Vancouver BC when I was there and they were actually not bad. I could never find them in the US though. I think it was just some select locations.

1990 Spring Break, we did a senior trip to VA, DC, PA and NY. I’m pretty sure we were somewhere in PA but these were just on the menu and I got one. Could have been an early test. Don’t remember much about it but I don’t remember them ever being rolled out in the southeast where I lived

These weren't to bad for the price and convenience. They were a bit different but tasty.

Used to have to wait for it when using the drive thru (DT), I can’t conform this but may have been the impetus to those two (less or more) spots reserved exclusively for DT customers.

I always blamed the pizza for the demise of the good pies. Got their hands on an oven, stopped frying the pies. Been substandard ever since. I have no idea if the two are actually connected, but the timing lines up.

Around the same time that Kentucky Fried Chicken changed their name to KFC

They also changed the grease, so the pies don’t taste as good to start.

The McD's near me did hawaiian they tasted ok, but the crust was like shoe leather.

This must have when Pizza Hut and all the other pizza chains were at their peaks and fighting for market share.

In current Mc D’s pricing environment they’d be $20, you can get at grocery store for $4☝️

Their pizza was good for the time they had it, want to say it was mid ‘93 when they were selling McPizza.

I always wanted to try one. There was a McDonald’s not far from me that still had them long after they were gone everywhere else. Every time I drove past that McD’s I think I should stop in and finally try the McPizza but I never got around to it.

I was on the other end - our city is (or at least was) a testing ground for McD’s new stuff, so we got pizza about a year before anyone else. God I loved that stuff.

It's weird that they had the exact same flavor profile as the shamrock shake: disappointmint.

Yup this was my high school job. I made a lot of pizzas! Personal and family size! I touched that damn hot oven several times and still have the scare from making pizzas!!!

I used to love getting them. And when they had fajitas.
View on Reddit #82574389

The main reason they failed is because they took 15-20 minutes to be ready. Not exactly "fast food".

Must've been a regional thing. I worked at McD's from 1990-1999 through school/ college and we didn't have pizza.

I understand why they would not bring this back in the restaurant. It was a frozen pizza baked on site. Sell them frozen at the grocery store.

Because based on their ability to make the best tasting burgers (cough cough), they thought they'd definitely hit the ball out of the park with pizza.  It's honestly amazing to me this shit company stays in business.
