Lufthansa to Mark 100 Years With Berlin Reenactment Flights to Zurich, Cologne

BERLIN — Lufthansa (LH) will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Easter Monday, April 6, 2026, by recreating the carrier’s inaugural 1926 routes with two special flights departing Berlin Brandenburg (BER) for Zurich (ZRH) and Cologne/Bonn (CGN).

The anniversary program will feature a major event at BER, with over 600 guests expected to attend. Earlier that day, an Airbus A350-900 from Munich (MUC) and a Boeing 787-9 from Frankfurt (FRA) will bring more than 400 invited passengers, including Lufthansa Group employees, partners, media, and influencers. Both aircraft will display the airline’s special deep-blue “Super Crane” centenary livery.

In the afternoon, Lufthansa will operate two commemorative flights. LH1926, a Boeing 787-9, will fly from Berlin to Zurich, overflying the historic 1926 stop points of Halle, Erfurt, and Stuttgart without landing. LH2026, an Airbus A350-900, will fly from Berlin to Cologne/Bonn, overflying Magdeburg. Both flights are scheduled to depart around 15:00 local time.

Cologne/Bonn Airport expects the A350 special flight to arrive at approximately 16:30 local time and reports strong demand, with seats selling out quickly.

According to Lufthansa’s newsroom, the original 1926 inaugural flights departed from Berlin-Tempelhof, operated by a Fokker-Grulich F II to Zurich and a Dornier Komet III to Cologne. The airline is now symbolically retracing these routes with modern widebody aircraft as it marks a century of operations.
