Cadillac Shooting Toyota Pricetag?

What shoots as good as a Staccato XC but maybe better priced?
Stock image for visibility.
Yesterday at the range they had a Staccato demo. I gotta say the XC shoots so good it felt like edging. You know you want it but you can’t quite get it. If i were to buy another gun, what would you choose for best VALUE. High or low cost but getting the most out of what you paid for? Scenario specifics and ideas below.
My EDC is a 4” PDP compact out of the box, iron sights, I’m happy with it. If i wanted a new gun for range fun and nightstand only use, including a red dot and a weapons light, what would you do?
Ideas:
-
Save to buy Staccato XC with acc.
-
Save to buy a Bull Armory Tac Pro with acc.
-
Buy a SIG 211 or 226 or 320; e.g. P226 X-Five Legion looks badass but some folks shared the P320 AXG Legion shoots better? Incld acc.
-
Buy a Beretta 92X Squalo or Performance with acc.
-
Upgrade my PDP with a fitted barrel and compensator, consider getting used to carrying with red dot and light. (really don’t see myself enjoying carrying all that shi)
-
Just get better at shooting and buy more ammo and buffalo wings.
Last thought, will buying a SAO, quality firearm in a 4.4” or so barrel length really be a meaningful difference or should i focus on getting a 5” barrel for a new range fun gun?
BTW i’m f broke. Probably should buy a job. Happy Easter.

Buy a Kimber 2K11 Comp, throw an SRO on it, call it a day.
Don’t buy a P211, I have one and it’s no where near as good as my XC. No other Sig can come close IMHO.
Same goes for the Bul Armory. They’re phenomenal guns, but they take proprietary mags, so negative.
No striker fired or DA/SA will shoot as good as a 2011. If you’re wanting an XC level gun for not the price, that leaves two options, MPA DS9 or the 2k11 Comp, which is a grand cheaper than the MPA.
__dryheat_@reddit
If you want a budget XC, some of the people over at r/2011 love the MAC DS9 Comp & the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus. Either of those options even with some upgrades will come in well below the $4k price tag of the XC. EGW internals and an aftermarket grip will make either of those a hell of a shooter with money leftover for ammo.
He11marine24678@reddit
Sample size of 1, im into my Mac 9 DSD Comp about $1,230, bought for $950 locally, $250 holosun comp red dot and $30 in springs (10 pound recoil spring, 17 pound recoil spring and EGW leaf spring) I also did two diy 3-16th diameter ports behind the front sight (done on a jet manual mill) and it shoots better than an XC, slide to frame fitment and tolerances are looser than staccato, I’m poor and can’t comprehend spending $4,200 on a Staccato XC.
MollyMuncher@reddit (OP)
Haven’t checked put either of those, will look later, thank you. For shits and giggles i looked at the fitted XC on their site. $5400 with dot and light. 🤦🏻♂️ That’s a pretty decent running motorcycle for that pricetag.
Thanks again!

I have a Mac 9 DS Comp with an Osight.
Gun for $799 and optic for $140.
I can mag dump into a fist sized hole at 10 yards (and I ain’t a pistol marksman at all).
It ain’t a Staccato, but it’s 80% of the gun for like 40% of the price.
__dryheat_@reddit
$5k is like mid-priced 2011s, look into SVI Infinity if you want sticker shock.
caterham09@reddit
There is always more expensive stuff but 5k is still a pretty high end 2011
Interesting-Win6219@reddit
I love my romulus
__dryheat_@reddit
I had an opportunity to shoot a friend's Romulus at a match a couple months ago. It was the 5" non-compensated varient which he swapped the plastic grip for a Cheely steel grip, it had a nice weight to it and shot really flat.

Before STI changed names, they weren’t considered particularly well built, well finished handguns. Most people had a gunsmith like Brazos Custom bring them up to competitive standards.
Are rebranded Staccato pistols a significant improvement on STI of old or is this just an example of great marketing raising their profile?
I’ve shot many STI pistols, built a limited gun from their old DIY frame & slide kits. I’ve only held a Staccato and was basically meh on it at $2800 a few years back.

Grand Power K100 Mk12/23 was $250 a couple weeks ago.
I have trouble deciding if I like my comped 92XI with some LTT bits and softer springs or the K100 more. Insane SA trigger and super smooth and very little to no play on frame to slide fitment.
Shot a Kimber 2K11 alomgside them and didn’t understand the hype.

Put the Langdon Tactical trigger on it and you've got a winner..

I got a BARELY used Oracle Arms 2311 for a price that will make people on here hate me. I absolutely adore this gun. Maybe it’s partly because I loved the price. But everyone who shoots it agrees. It’s pretty damn badass. If you haven’t looked at them- consider it. If you really want an idea of the price- basically I paid for the RMR and got a gun and 22 magazines (yes really) free. Look around and see what you can find. I don’t think they’re priced too bad.
Mediokrates@reddit
I work at a shop and regularly have conversations about either those or a Watchtower variant. My usual line is "if I am going to a store with 5k in my pocket for spending, I am not leaving with one gun."
Nightstand gun can be as easy as an Echelon with a light and/or sight to your preference. MAC, EAA, and a few other companies are hitting the 2011 market at good prices recently too, still we'll under that price point.
underhillavi@reddit
Sig 211 or honestly that new kimber da warrior I think it's called looks pretty sweet but you'll never not want the staccato if it's the staccato you want
quickscopemcjerkoff@reddit
Mac 9 ds comp 5"
All metal no MIM parts 2011. Shoots well above its price tag. You can change out the entire ignition system and all the springs, and you will have an amazing shooter thats still thousands less than a "premium" 2011.
BaronVonMittersill@reddit
Shadow 2 and it’s not even a discussion. Can be had for around $1k and it’s like 80% as good as tricked out 2011s. Some of the best shooters in the world have competed and won with (albeit heavily modified) S2s.
They’re good guns.

The staccato xc is sort of a meme designed for and marketed to people not in the know. Staccato, in the 2011 crowd, is known to be sort of the baseline maker of production quality guns... like "the cheapest gun I'd actually recommend to someone getting into the game". In fact, Staccato was once actually the budget line of guns for the company STI, which has since rebranded to Staccato and now ONLY sells the budget line of production guns.
This in and of itself doesn't present any glaring issues, and for most of their lineup, Staccato produces guns with quality commensurate to the price tag (ie: the P, C2, models) but the XC is different. The XC is priced at or just below CUSTOM/ SEMICUSTOM pricing, but you STILL only get a production quality gun. All you get for your money is a minimally effective comp (I say this because if you ever shoot a REAL open gun you'll see what actually effective comps and/or porting feels like) with a somewhat aesthetically pleasing shape that is flush fit with the dust cover and machined into the barrel. You'd get roughly the same (or better) performance with a threaded barrel and a larger comp threaded on to it. The bigger issue is that the gun has no functional use other than as a range toy. You can't shoot competition with it... the comp sucks too much to compete with the other open guns and you can't remove it so you're stuck in open. The light springing and the comp sort of preclude it from being the duty gun of choice, and its size and weight make it a pretty shit option for ccw. It's just a toy to impress people at the range with the caveat that anyone who is really into 2011's isn't impressed by it and instantly assumes you don't know what you're doing because you own one and forked over $4.5k for it instead of simply saving up an extra $500 and buying a REAL custom/semicustom quality gun. If the XC was $3 grand, or even $3.5k, like that new C4X carry gun they came out with... I'd be less egregious, but at its price tag, you're a glock away from a gun that's actually good and you chose to buy a meme.
My advice: Don't waste money on guns with integral flush fit comps. If you want an open gun... buy a full out open gun. Huge ass comp... maybe ported too... frame mounted optics.. the whole 9 yards. If you want a 3 gun style open gun with slide ride optics, at least fork out for something like an Atlas Erebus if you don't want (or can't afford) a full custom.
Otherwise, just buy a quality, limited style 2011 that doesn't have the comp gimmick. If you want a Staccato, get a P or C2 or one of the HD's if you care about drop safety. If you're poor, get on the waiting list for a platypus.... saves you some money and their build quality from what I've seen is pretty decent (their finishes suck though, paint it's an acceptable finish). I've heard conflicting and mixed reviews about the sig p211 so I'd personally stay away (plus you're overpaying for a flush minimally effective comp again).
Don't buy a "budget" 2011 like a tisas/mac/apollo13/name your budget brand. People buy 2011's for the shooting performance advantages and all of that goes out the window with the cheap shit (not to mention you get alot more lemons). Some of the non 2011 sao guns you mentioned are objectively better guns than the cheap 2011 crowd... like the Sig p226 xfives, or the cheap sao shadow 2's from cz. I'm personally not a huge fan of berettas in sao, but the traditional 92 souped up by langdon is probably the best you can do for da/sa and they're frequently on sale for about a grand.

Very quality write up. I love it when people with experience are willing to zoom out and give the 30,000 ft view of market sector as a whole.
I will stick with my full size P320 range toy for the time being!
Joice_Craglarg@reddit
Thanks for this write-up.
Every time I start thinking, 'maybe I'll get a 2011,' my research leads me to what you're saying. It's not really worth bothering, unless you're planning to spend $5k.
I don't think there's a pistol in the world I want for $5k, so thanks for this reminder!

Matt3855@reddit
Full size CZ P10. I like that you get 19 shots but I think the longer grip is a little tacky
thatcarguyohh@reddit
Why not just get a P? I have a P for range/home and a CS to carry. Rarely shoot my XC
MollyMuncher@reddit (OP)
Damn you got some toys. I just looked up the P. Heavier trigger pull, but good to know that data point and price range on the scale.
technical_righter@reddit
Second the P for range, home, truck and the C for carry. Although I carry the P more often than I should because it gets to the range the most and I'm the most confident with it. Do not have an XC to compare.
CandidCompetition780@reddit
It’s really easy to adjust trigger pull weight on 2011s
TeapotTheDog@reddit
Staccato P. P226 legion sao or above (x-5, reserve, etc).
I own both, and have shot an XC. Imo, an XC is not worth the amount over the above. If you're doing XC money, you might as well do a crazy custom. Imo, the p226 legion sao is fantastic bang for the buck. Especially if you find a used one.

Platypus?
OldGamerX79@reddit
That's on my wish list and the way I have it configured it's on $1600 without including the optic. But I have plenty of mags. I just don't like the lead time on the build as for that price I want instant gratification.
MollyMuncher@reddit (OP)
Ya saw that. Could be a lot if fun if I really wanted a pretty toy. Their website is fun. I guess i just saw the relatively high price tag, ridic lead time (4 months), and strayed more towards alternatives that presented the specs in a more consumable manner.
But i do see that they make badass customizable guns with great reviews.
DesertEagleZapCarry@reddit
Have platty, super happy. Watch the site for in stock models and pounce or just eat the lead time.
Mdmrtgn@reddit
I second a platypus. I'm a Springfield boy so I had to have my fitted rice out prodigy (I let someone else dump a fortune Into it and got it cheap off them) but I've shot a couple of these and they go just as hard, if I could justify it I would have one and not just be shooting other people's.
Ok-Government-8521@reddit
Honestly dude you need to check out czs shadow 2 line or tactical sport line they are the best for the money in my opinion and you can get them cz custom with better triggers, optics mounts and so on.
