Why does everyone get butthurt about in cab cameras. What could you possibly do while trying to make it where you dont want them
AceDuce23@reddit
Drink water
7thDaydream@reddit
I have an in-cab camera and it has never gone off for drinking anything. Its literally only for if you get it an accident so they can see what you were doing like if you were on your phone or whatnot.
AceDuce23@reddit
That's bc ur company doesn't use ai cameras. Most companies do and they alert you for so many things.
7thDaydream@reddit
Well fair enough I wasn’t aware companies were using AI cameras.
donnthebuilder@reddit (OP)
it’s too prevent micro managing.
7thDaydream@reddit
They aren’t actively watching you through the camera my guy. It comes on when it detects you doing something like following too closely or sudden lane change. It then gets reviewed by a third party BEFORE it even gets sent to safety. Nobody gives a shit what you’re doing in the truck as long as you’re operating it safely.

A lot of people shit on em but- May Trucking.
My minimum pay each week gets me $840 before taxes. (120x7)
Then I get $60/week for tuiton reimbursement pushing me to $900 gross.
Thats JUST minimum pay.
Once a month, they give me the previous month's CPM pay - the previous month's minimum pay.
They advertise 0.45/cpm, but as long as youre not getting in accidents you're really making .48-.53/cpm (.48 if you hit 8k miles, .53 if you hit 10k)
To sum up what I'm paid at a bare minimum per month-
$900x4 (Minimum pay + Tuition reimburse) = $3,600.
CPM Bonus (Calculating for 8k miles) .48 x 8000 = $3,840 - $3600 = $240
$3600 + $240 = $3840/month $960/week gross.
These are just my minimum numbers, I usually hit 9 or 10k miles/month and end up grossing between $4900-$5300/month.
Will I stay here forever? No. But the pay is very stable/consistent for a first company.

First person I’ve ever heard say anything good about May

Try a LTL company. Most will take you with little to no experience. You’ll probably work a lot of hours but home every day, weekends off, and holidays paid. I rarely see it mentioned and when it does some of these guys talk about LTL like it’s the devil.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
I mean, I don't think any starter company will. But reefer pays more in general.
TheIzzyRock@reddit
Get used to Incab cameras, they save companies money on insurance
donnthebuilder@reddit (OP)
fuck the company’s money
TheIzzyRock@reddit
Well, you see, some of us work for companies that have profit sharing and get bonuses, so it’s our money too.
So perhaps humble yourself, understand you’re likely not getting a job from a company that doesn’t have Incab cameras because most companies have them now because drivers do dumb shit and if you’re driving their equipment, they want to know what you were doing when shit gets fucked up.

Location? That matters A LOT in answering your question

orlando but willing to relocate to Texas

Reefer
Kenworthsteve@reddit
No camera? Let's see .... Well maybe try an electrician helper position.
deezkeys098@reddit
None
Frogspoison@reddit
Every single one of them will promise 1000k/week. None will deliver.
Babnno@reddit
You’d prolly gross that amount at least but net $1000 like once.
WIbigdog@reddit
A cool milli a week would be great.
Wasabi-Kungpow@reddit
The company I started with right out of school has a $1000 week guarantee. Only problem is they dont hire new people anymore. So you can make that starting out but it seems to be harder to find it
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
I started with Roehl, some weeks I'd get less than $1,000, some I'd get over $2,000 because the way the pay period was set up. On average I was only bringing in $4,000 to $5,000 a month after taxes but coming from making $2,000 a month after taxes and living in Texas, that was good money at the time.
They can be micro managing but I think they're a good starter company. The money I was making was doing flatbed, I think dry van guys made 6 cents less per mile from what I remember. That was 4 years ago so things might've changed.
ErnestoLaganas@reddit
Pepsi, frito Lay and Coca cola will all hire students depending on the area. For LTL companies, XPO will hire new drivers for night line haul.
Trash companies WM, Republic will hire new drivers. 1k a week shouldn't be hard at all.

Check out System Transport
Tutorele@reddit
I don't know about immediately, but there's a fair few megas that will put you on their account after 3 months if you keep your record clean. You can haul beer for example after that and easily make that money. But you're probably going to fall a little under before, unless you follow the advice others gave here
Fluxus4@reddit
Does your school have a bulletin board where companies advertise to recruit graduates? If so, take a picture of every one. Then research and contact every one you want. I found a company 5 minutes from my house paying better than your target and it is Daily, home by 4:30.
Don't fall into the notion that you MUST go OTR right out of school. You can, but there are options out there if you're willing to put in a little work in finding them.
Freight-N-Wait@reddit
Ik you said you arent into flatbed, but i will say that is what im in training for atm. It can suck sometimes, but atleast in my area im looking to take home around 1100/w mininum typically (from the math we did of our loads recently and from my trainer's 7 years experience on the job). + will get home weekly if i want. Not a bad gig imo (and no inward cameras currently atleast)
just_me1969@reddit
Probably none. At least not consistently.
yungsnipe17@reddit
Unfortunately it’s gonna take awhile to bring home $1000 a week if you’re new, unless you’re starting out with food service which is hard on your body but it’s good money. OTR u can actually make really good money, but you have to get with the right company that’s going to give you the miles and pay. Just do your research and try and get with a good flatbed company that’s going to give you the miles my opinion. When u get your year experience and if your sick of otr, I recommend getting on with an ltl and running linehaul !
phil_mycock_69@reddit
More than likely most mega carriers will have in cab cameras; unfortunately that’s who you will have to get your start with unless you get lucky somewhere else. I went with Knight back in 2014 and they did me good, I was bringing home about 8/900 a week after taxes during my first 6 months as a rookie and then it went up
SlothyTendecies@reddit
I hope you find what you’re looking for but I highly highly doubt you will. You’d have to start at LTL place to make that kind of money but they all want experience. Most places that take new drivers are going to have in cab cameras to lower insurance costs. You’ve got to keep your expectations grounded for your first year or two.
