Cheap Flight NY to China

Hi, I'm looking to stay in China for \~1 month from like mid july to mid august (dates flexible). The cheapest I see right now are like $1500 on google flights. Should I try to fly to LAX first for cheaper prices? Also should I try buying ASAP with the oil prices rising?

Terrible idea for so many reasons. Wait until late autumn/early winter or late winter/spring. Heat will make your life miserable, and you'll be paying 5 x prices for the pain. My return flights from London to Shanghai were $290 and that included further return flights to Taiwan.

I miss the pre-covid cheap NYC-China flights! Flew roundtrip on Air China JFK - BKK with a layover in PEK for $450. It’s not the nicest, but got the job done.

Same! I flew round trip from LAX to Xi’an for $400 pre-Covid.

$1071 is doable for your cheap flight NY to China and back for summer.
Are you going for business or pleasure?
A round the world itinerary would work well for you.
Fly JFK to Beijing for $553 USD on Royal Air Maroc Jul 12 https://www.google.com/travel/flights/s/pSKrmEcnRPGbX8hd7
Then return via Hong Kong, or Beijing to Toyko on HK express or Cebu for $149, see Tokyo, then fly Tokyo Houston for $314 late August and Houston La Guardia on Spirit for $55.
The alternative is a straight flight back from Hong Kong or Beijing, via Saudi Air around the same price, but that would be for a business trip.

It's just for vacation. Thanks for all this, I'll look into it

if you're not time locked for whatever reason, I would strongly suggest avoiding the summer months. the heat and humidity is no joke there. that and it being summer vacation makes the tickets/hotels more expensive
