Take these broken wings and learn to fly again
cheetuzz@reddit
sorry, this is an E-2, not an SR-71
IndependenceStock417@reddit
I don't get the reference
i8TheWholeThing@reddit
The first comment is a quote from The Beatles song "Blackbird." "Blackbird" is also the nickname for the SR-71.
IndependenceStock417@reddit
That's funny. I made the top comment but I was referring to Mr Mister's song lol
Redebo@reddit
MOTORING! What’s your price for flight?!?

majestyne@reddit
but i prefer to call the SR-71 by its formal name: Mr. Mister.

Fun fact, since the Japanese E-2’s are land based there is no need to fold the wings. But they made their hardened hangars smaller for space constraints so they only fit in the hangars with their wings folded

Lmao that air cart driver parking it right in front of everyone
Highspeedfutzi@reddit
Does the E-2 have an APU or does one engine have to be running for the unfolding?
lite723@reddit
They do not have an APU. They either have to have one engine online or use an external hydraulic test stand.
KAMEKAZE_VIKINGS@reddit (OP)
Brief research seems to suggest no. The truck to its starboard is probably the one providing external power for the startup.
NoDoze-@reddit
So cool! Yes, we dont see it enough.

Those prop blades are crazy cool looking (obviously I’m not an aviation expert, just a fan of planes).

Thanks that was a good read.

What base was this at?
KAMEKAZE_VIKINGS@reddit (OP)
Naha airport/JASDF-JMSDF airbase in Okinawa. One hell of an airport to go planespotting at, being a busy civilian airport where you have a good chance of seeing one of the JSDF planes fly. They're responsible for responding to any Chinese air violations in the region so they scramble almost every day on top of regular exercise and training flights. Stay long enough and you're almost guaranteed to see something from the JSDF fly. Of course, there are plenty of civilian aircrafts flying in and out. Kind of like Daniel K. Inoue airport/Hickham AB in Honolulu.
Based there is the F-15J and T-4 trainers of the 204th and 304th squadrons (9th air wing), E-2C of the 603rd, P-3C and P-1 of the 5th fleet air wing among other utility aircrafts and Helis.
The video in particular is from the annual Churaumi air fest held at the base which I believe is open to all members of the public. Just a bag check at the entrance. They have several demonstration flights including the Blue Impulse aerobatic team which is probably the main attraction along with the mock F-15J and E-3 scrambles which the video was from.

Looks like good ole no A/C hot ass Misawa

Very reminiscent of an Avenger wing coming out. Little more clearance from the deck though

I forgot Japan flies those.
