ok growing up in the 80s I remember my mom getting popcorn kernels around Christmas time that were colored red and green. and when you popped them just that tan/brown part was the color. I have googled and cannot find anything about this popcorn. Does anyone else remember this?

They still make it. I remember it as a kid, because I used to eat the kernels out of the jar. It was a glass jar the size of a Hellman’s mayonnaise jar.

I remember this. The colors were kind of metallic.

That is exactly what I'm talking about

There was a store in a weird mall where I grew up that specialized in colored popcorn, and there was every color imaginable, and they'd have different mixes and seasonings, and it was all year round.

Kernals?

Yes, I remember this, it was like Jelly Belly but popcorn. They kept it in long trays and you bought flavors by the scoop. My favorite was cinnamon but I remember green apple and blue raspberry, it was just becoming a candy flavor, I think they had that as well.
Katiecake80@reddit
Yes! They were mini popcorn bags you put in the microwave!!
KittiesRule1968@reddit
Lol....this was before microwaves when it came out.

I do remember them. I just always thought it was for microwaves (or at least that is what my parents told me) we didn’t get a microwave until at least 1989

We used to buy bags of the colored popcorn in the 70s. I think jiffy pop may have done one too.

I remember this. I also remember colored toilet paper lmao

I totally remember and I absolutely remember that same disappointment at the burnt kernel husk being the only coloured part.

Like the big metal container with caramel, and orange cheese, and plain white?
Vaguely remember ‘Christmas’ themed socking you could buy at the supermarket that was red tinted. Probably RED#5 remember how that was demonized?

Not OP, but YASSSS I loved getting one of those. I was the kid who mixed all three flavors together, and the tin ended up as either storage (with lid) or a wastebasket (because the lid got dented and wouldn't close right).

Yes I remember

Jello mix in corn syrup bases popcorn ball recipes made colored popcorn if I remember correctly. We had purple (grape) green (lime) and orange (orange or peach) popcorn balls at Halloween
noisician@reddit
I remember being disappointed that the popped corn was still just white
Reader47b@reddit
Jolly Time. They had red and blue kernels.
NoContextCarl@reddit
Yes. I plan on having some before my next colonoscopy.

Don’t recall that but do recall multi coloured popcorn when we still lived in the US. My fam came to Canada in 1970 and I have not seen it since.
RedditSkippy@reddit
I’m sure you could make them yourself. Put popcorn into a bag, add a few drops of food coloring and shake.
CallingDrDingle@reddit
Yes, I loved that shit
MSB218@reddit
We had multicolored popcorn in the house year-round.

Oh lordt, memory unlocked. High school lunch just before Christmas break…my friend group all decided to bring snacks for a little Christmas party at lunch. One friend tried to make popcorn with blue food coloring. The popcorn didn’t appear blue at all but she brought it anyway and snacked on it the whole day. I see her again after school and she walks up to me and smiles…AND HER ENTIRE MOUTH WAS BLUE! Teeth, tongue, lips…all bright blue. She had no idea and nobody had told her. It was hysterical.
But this is the same friend who stuck a kid’s toy that suction cups to a high chair tray onto her (quite large) forehead and gave herself a huge and perfectly round hickey that she had to walk around with for days.
Sorry C.Z., if you’re in here! Fond memories!
mizuaqua@reddit
The popcorn was the mushrooming kind, popped first then coated in colored candy syrup.
