Changed the oil in the generator and ran it under load (powered up my battery bank) for a bit.
Purchased two new power banks from Anker, one for travel and one for home devices.
Put together a home blackout kit. Power bank, flashlights, candles, matches, and emergency radio all in an old tool box.
Did some gardening - planted in existing and put in 2 new beds (yet to be filled).
Organized canned foods and wrote the dates in sharpie for easy FIFO.
Worked 4 hrs overtime to pad emergency fund.
Started on a dolly for my 28 gal water tank.
SuspiciousBee7257@reddit
Reorganized and took inventory of prep supplies and started stocking fresh non-perishable food, water, and next up is gas rotations. Because prices can only get worse from here at the very least. Basically building up essentials home pantry now week to week.
StarlightLifter@reddit
Fucking goddamn lots.
Ordered a mini fridge and my solar generator can power continuously.
I can’t power a whole house but I can keep a little bit of food cold.
Ordered a full blown EMT/first-in/trauma bag including a stop the bleed and obstetrics add on, to compliment the EMT training I’m finishing this month.
Procured new/better walkie talkies. Getting HAM certified was on the list but haven’t had time so it is what it is.
Added more ammo on.
Picked up 10gal each worth of flour, rice, beans, intending on vacuum sealing that + desiccant in Mylar bags into 5gal buckets.
Ordered a 20gal fuel tank to go in the garage, arrived Tuesday and will fill that promptly. Topped off all vehicles.
Basically, I hate to say it but - I’ve been saving money for this or that for a while now and this week I’ve basically been treating the world like it is on fucking super sale because it is.
I don’t want to push consumerism and I’m not buying frivolous bullshit. But I’ve had a lot of this ear marked for a long time and I had money saved. Fuck it roll them bones.

Same re bringing forward purchases. I’ve been waiting to see if a portable power station I’ve wanted for a while was going to go down further in price. Instead it started to go up so I’ve bought it. Was planning on getting it before summer anyway but seems sensible to bring that forward.
Flaky-Coffee-9942@reddit
What kinda of power bank
GlitterLight@reddit
Anker Solix C300. I wanted it for camping and kayaking but it will also be really useful in a power outage.
7o7A1@reddit
pulled the trigger on the anker solix c2000 g2. trying to decide if i should get panels (and which ones) or external battery next. also considering getting a GokWh for the chest freezer in the cellar.
did some gardening, brush clearing and batch cooking.
GlitterLight@reddit
I feel like we’re twinning- I’ve also just bought an Anker, the C300 but have decided against the solar panels for now. Have also been gardening, planting and batch cooking. Trying to get a head start on the seeds, my courgettes have sprouted which is a good sign
cosecha0@reddit
which panels or battery are you considering?
Decent-Egg-2851@reddit
Went through all my Coleman gear oiling pump, cleaning generators, and making sure everything is running correctly.
Glittering-Tea-2221@reddit
I planted even more salad and veg in my small garden. This is the first year that I am seriously getting into it.
One-Entertainer-5499@reddit
Taught the fam how to charge the solar power generators
coinpile@reddit
I’ve been working on fencing in my garden beds. We got chickens last year and they like the beds and what I grow a little too much.
Gene-reader@reddit
Canned black beans and kidney beans. Stocked extra TP because the pandemic taught us that TP is a panic buy for non preppers. Inventorying my OTC meds and filling in gaps. In spring, I use a lot of distilled water for nasal rinsing. I had to go to three stores to get just three gallons. I usually just buy a couple gallons each week but I'm going to start buying four each week. I reuse the empty jugs for container garden irrigation. Good luck everyone.
Apprehensive_Age_884@reddit
I am on TP stocking team! I am purchasing items that are made with plastic. Prices for these items will go up!
toutsweet@reddit
Examples, please?
Motor_Meaning_7819@reddit
Ordered a 400w solar blanket. I live in a western state with a severely low snow pack, so I anticipate wildfires and thus power outages this summer. I’m researching air purifiers too, in anticipation of wildfire smoke.
Bought 5-gallon food grade buckets with gamma lids, for bulk rice & pasta storage. Am in the process of vacuum sealing & freezing the rice before putting it in the buckets. I need to get an impulse sealer so I can use Mylar bags…but for now I have to make do. World events are moving too fast at the moment.
Continued my big 3-month rotating pantry project…some of my kitchen reorganization needed to be tweaked.
My new freezer tray “Souper Cube” meal prep system is working out great, so far. Instead of storing months worth of ingredients in the freezer, I’m storing months worth of already cooked meals. It’s a very efficient use of freezer space, and I get all that cooking done ahead of time. Loving this.
Installed a WiFi-enabled thermometer in my main freezer, which notifies me if the temperature goes out of range. I want to do anything reasonable to protect the investment in that food. Also did a test of my backup power system.
Doing a lot of research on how to use a dehydrator, before pulling the trigger on buying one. I want to bulk up on homemade shelf stable food, so I can free up more freezer & fridge space.
Generally doing a ton of research on making things at home that I typically buy at the store. Have some experiments planned for today…homemade “cream of” soups, clarified butter, mayonnaise, nut butters, etc. This is to counter rising prices, and just for fun & curiosity.
HappyCamperDancer@reddit
Coway air purifiers have been consistently rated excellent by Wirecutter. We bought two back in 2020 and they still do a great job and look nice and have a moderate/slim footprint. If you want good and cheap and don't care about looks then google Corsi-Rosenthal Box.
Also, we added outside window screens to shade our sun facing windows to keep the house cooler and the Koolspot rollup shades are great. So glad we have those.
Motor_Meaning_7819@reddit
I love that DIY idea! Thank you for this.
grapefruit279@reddit
Dehydrated food is a huge space saver. I have apple trees so we make apple chips and dehydrate shredded apples for baking with. Pumpkin/squash powder is the other thing that makes the shelf space for my dehydrator worth it.
Motor_Meaning_7819@reddit
Cool! I'm jealous of people with gardens, fruit trees, etc.
Some of my planned uses...I'm low carb, so just the cauliflower rice alone will free up 1/4 of my freezer space:
czndra67@reddit
How do you use the powder?
HappyCamperDancer@reddit
I made burger buns yesterday, for the first time, they were SO MUCH BETTER than anything you can buy my husband said "you just spoiled me for life", 🤣.
Motor_Meaning_7819@reddit
Yeah, quality is going down while prices are going up...so homemade stuff gets better by the day, in comparison.
Makes me feel sort of stupid, though, for taking so long to try it. I just started making homemade cleaning supplies, too, and am regretting all the money I used to spend. :)
Thin-Psychology-3111@reddit
Thank you for such a detailed list! I am stalled out a bit on being overwhelmed, so seeing yours laid out so neatly helps motivate me to get my ducks in a row. Be well! :)
Motor_Meaning_7819@reddit
You too. :)
Spiley_spile@reddit
I just recently discovered super cubes! A friend on my surgery care team bround me a bag of frozen stew cubes. So convenient!
Motor_Meaning_7819@reddit
I'm a big stew fan, too. Now I wait until stew beef goes on sale - I pounce, make a big batch, and freeze it.
4 two-cup serving bricks of soup/stew/casserole/whatever fit perfectly into a 1-gallon freezer bag. Friggin genius!
I also picked up new meal prep containers, specifically sized for these cubes (about 4" x 4"). So before bed I pull out a frozen cube or two for the next day, put them in the prep containers, and stick em in the fridge to thaw out. Makes reheating even easier.
Meat-Fart@reddit
6 days in the gym for strength & cardio. 1 outdoor walk. Added a small amount to my emergency cash. Topped off the gas tank.
Wise_Artichoke6552@reddit
Found mason jars, will probably make jam out of the berries I bought 6 months ago thinking I was gonna pull it together and become a protein smoothie drinker.
Figured out that losing my medicare isn't a crisis, because I can still afford my meds, none of which are technically critical for life anyway, so I'll live.
In week 2 of a no-grocery shopping challenge, and so far all I've had to cheat for is 3lbs of potatoes because MIL requested scalloped potatoes for easter dinner and I was in fact completely out.
I am lucky to have everything I need for a solid month without buying anything (grocery report pending), and I don't have a yard or garden space so tbh most of my prepping is lusting after the handgun I want, and staying away from the news. And reading Where There Is No Doctor, which is excellent.
jim-james--jimothy@reddit
Clearing fire danger away from home. Making firewood for winter, and lumber for outdoor stuff. Also about to set trail cams out to watch for big game migration back into the area. Maybe freeze dry some candy because it's Easter.
Antique_Target3076@reddit
Learned how to clean the P-trap under my kitchen sink to make it drain faster.
Stocking up on knowledge & skills is as important as stocking up on food and medicines :)
MoxieGirl9229@reddit
Knowledge and skills are so underrated, yet vital. Also, problem solving and critical thinking skills. If you can work your way through problems, they aren’t problems anymore. They become knowledge at that point, and that will help you figure out the next problem. I think a basic skill like building a fire is something everyone should know, but most haven’t a clue.
redhandrail@reddit
I got 15 gallons of gas and some stabilizer. I’m a really basic prepper but we’ve got enough of everything we need for at least two weeks
olycreates@reddit
I'm starting my trials of ancient grains in my bread machine. I found someone local that grinds flour and got some einkorn to try first, wish me luck!
YellowCabbageCollard@reddit
We continued to work on a barn for our milk goats...getting closer to finishing it. And I weeded and planted about 30 pepper plants in the ground that I started from seed back in January. Some of them already had tiny blooms on them! I have so much weeding and planting to do. Oh, we also hatched out a dozen chicks last weekend. I wish I could get more to hatch at a time. But I plant to start another batch soon.
PrimarySteak5812@reddit
Bought a shortwave radio 📻
Casiarius@reddit
Gardening like crazy. I am way behind this year but I'm getting everything planted/started this weekend.
TheBackshotWarrior@reddit
Added new car tools to my vehicle (electric tire pump, emergency lights, snacks, charging cables for phone, etc.)
Starting getting heavy into meal prep (mainly roast beef, carrots, and brown rice)
Spiley_spile@reddit
- Compiling a mini Earthquake first aid guidebook for the people attending my go-bag class. at a skillshare. (The gift bag also has paper soap, oral rehydration salts, water purification tablets, and a 1Liter container.) - Overhauling my Stop the Bleed class. - Bought a new power drill to help with the overhaul. And so I can build a mini altoids twig stove. - Bought hella beans.
Many-Health-1673@reddit
Bought some 9mm, 5.56, and 7.62x39. Reloaded some 6GT for my PRS rifle.
Changed the oil on one of the trucks.
Did some work on a tractor by pulling manure out of a shed for a friends garden.
Got the zero turn at the farm ready for mowing season by changing the hydrostat drive belt, installing a new belt tension spring, and changing the oil filter.
Changed the oil and filter on the zero turn at the house and put on new blades.
Worked out Monday - Thursday.
Dropped a large tree at the lake house and bucked it up for firewood. Got 2.5 ricks of wood out of it.
Pulled the telescope out of storage for the spring and summer viewing season.
ZeroFox14@reddit
Planted another round of veggies- potatoes, onion, carrots, celery, various salad greens, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, peas, and some herbs.
Bought another 4 gallons of bottled water to add to my stash.
Picked up some rechargeable aa and aaa batteries and stashed the in the basement. The charger is going on a smart timer to charge them up once every three months or so. I’d like to add some d cell as well, but watching for a sale first.
Setting a bunch of home automation stuff up so that when my house is off grid/running on solar, the non essentials get switched off (old beverage fridge, plant grow lights, etc). Want to make sure my battery will last as long as possible even if I’m not home to unplug things.
Next_Emphasis_9424@reddit
Bought a bunch of ammo. Plinking and good quality self defense ammo. I realized I don’t have a lot, and need to practice a lot more.
Also ammo be going up like gas prices right now.
New_pollution1086@reddit
Worked to make money to fund preps. Went to the shooting range and prices out the next firearm.
Gonna do some coupon shopping today and maybe some light gardening.
MindConsistent6015@reddit
Put $500 more into my 401k
joshak3@reddit
I updated my printed list of contacts, making one copy each for my wallet, bug-out bag, and home. I also reviewed the document with information in case of my death (financial accounts, house/utility info, etc.), but I didn't have any updates to make, so I didn't have to give out new copies.
ContestNo2060@reddit
Built a 4 x 8 raised bed in the backyard. We have a few planters and fabric bags, which are great, but this adds a lot more growing space.
