Are tulips farmed in the UK?

Wife wants to see tulips (she's from the far east so it's a novelty for her) and without going to the Netherlands there doesn't seem to be many options here. Found a few places on Google that are either miles away, don't actually have many tulips according to the reviews, or normally a mix of both. Steep entry fee, random crap we don't actually want like cafes and kids play areas, very few tulips.
We literally just want a field she can stand at the edge of and I can take some photos, that's it. No tourist attraction stuff or the ability to pick some then be charged shit loads to take them home. Just a field.
Despite loads of people having them outside their house and them being ideal for growing in the UK, there doesn't seem to be any fields of them anywhere.
Are they just not farmed at scale in the UK?
Located in Cheshire but willing to drive, provided it's not hours away!

This place does.. https://www.houghtonhall.com/whats-on/tulips-at-houghton

See this is what I mean, looks like a few have just grown wild by chance, not exactly a field with a crop of tulips. And it's a four hour drive away.
I guess there's just no money in it for UK farmers.
DifferentWave@reddit
There is money in it for UK farmers, and those UK farmers are in East Anglia because that’s where the soil and climate is most suitable, on account of it being a bit like the Netherlands most probably, a fact that you seem to be quite grumpy about. For the same reason we don’t grow sheep in East Anglia, because the soil and climate elsewhere is better suited to sheep.
Houghton Hall is the home of the Marquess of Cholmondeley and hosts significant art exhibitions. I’ve seen Bridget Riley and Damian Hurst there, also an exhibition by a man who carried a grain of sand around for a year then put it somewhere, all in the name of Art. That probably explains why the above picture looks ~tasteful rather than the vast tracts you’re hoping for.
There’s the local hospice event near King’s Lynn that others have mentioned here. I know people who volunteer for it and say it’s non stop herding the public who are trampling willy nilly over the flowers. The thing is, tulips are popular, everyone wants to take photos with tulips, so those who farm tulips are going to cash in on that with cafes and play areas and Instagram what-nots. The chances of you finding an unattended field of tulips you can make merry in are pretty slim.

Just search 'UK tulip festival' there are multiple. Somewhere in Norfolk is probably your best bet if you want to see lots of tulips.

Unfortunately the same crap touristy places showing up.
Fluffy_Ad2274@reddit
I mean, going to flower fields in the way you want to do is a tourist experience
plastic_toast@reddit (OP)
Today we stood at the edges of a field of rapeseed to get similar photos. That's what I mean, except with tulips. Or indeed any similar colourful crop.
Fluffy_Ad2274@reddit
Thing is, flowers have a commercial value, so tend not to be farmed by roads - whereas things like rape and wheat aren't as attractive to people with sticky fingers. I appreciate you're from Cheshire, which is essentially a low-rent version of Surrey, but surely you can see that farmers don't farm things that are attractive to pilferers where there's easy access?
intangible-tangerine@reddit
Well yes and flower farm that allows visitors is likely to be mainly for tourists.
plastic_toast@reddit (OP)
You can stand next to most fields in the UK.
I'm still not sure how up/downvotes work but I suspect we've got a lot of city dwellers here who find the countryside scary and alien.
It isn't Jurassic Park guys!
Bambi_H@reddit
If you're going to see tulips in an area you don't live in, you are a tourist, I'm afraid.
Desperate-Cookie3373@reddit
Houghton Hall in Norfolk is very beautiful and not touristy and they have a lovely display of tulips.
flobadobalob@reddit
Delamere Farm Shop. You’ll have to search for them. Tulip pick your own. Not on a grand scale, but close for you and might be what you’re after.
plastic_toast@reddit (OP)
Given everything else being suggested isn't quite the rolling vista of fields I'd had in mind, given this is a ten minute drive away this is a good shout.

There’s Tulley’s Tulip Farms up near Warwick. They also do a tulip festival in the spring - https://www.tulipfarm.co.uk/contact-us
Illustrious-Star1@reddit
Tulleys are in West Sussex. Nowhere near Warwick. In West Sussex we also have Arundel Castle which has a tulip festival.
kalendral_42@reddit
There is a Tulley’s Tulip Garden up near Warwick, they must have more than one farm on the go
Illustrious-Star1@reddit
It looks like they have three. Plus another in Hertfordshire.
Sea-Still5427@reddit
Never been but there's this near Pontefract:

Not on the scale of the Netherlands but the area around Spalding would be worth a visit

Two people saying Spalding. 3 hour drive away unfortunately.
Remote-Pool7787@reddit
So when you said willing to drive, you mean within an hour of your home?
plastic_toast@reddit (OP)
Yes, hence "not hours" as in plural of hour. I would actually be willing to drive two or three hours for a MASSIVE field tulips stretching over undulating rises and dips in the landscape, if such a thing existed, as opposed to a patch of tulips the size of a large family garden.
Bastrato@reddit
Your best chance of fields and fields of tulips is spalding Boston area.
Bastrato@reddit
Spalding is just outside Boston so 2 birds 1 stone?
Littletinyphil@reddit
https://www.norfolktulips.co.uk Tulips for tapping event near Kings Lynn goes on sale Tuesday at 10am for dates later this month, tickets go very quickly it’s a spectacular place to visit and very well organised and friendly. The fields feature in the Wicked films, probably will be too far away but thought it was worth mentioning.
Oilfreeeggs@reddit
It’s a bit closer to you than Spalding but Spilmans Farm and Birchfield Farm near Ripon both have tulip fields. I haven’t been myself , just seen them pop up on Facebook. Loads of farms seem to be doing this now, so it’s worth checking Facebook for options near you

There's a pop up tulip farm at Hatton Country World near Warwick (Tulley's Tulip Garden). I went last year and it was lovely to see lots of varieties. It was somewhat spoiled by idiots dressed up to the nines trying to sit amongst the tulips to take selfies for their Instagram, despite signs saying to keep to the paths, but the tulips themselves were lovely.

Unfortunately she can't get a visa until July at least for reasons we can't talk about because it's against sub rules.
