Trying to put in the PAS sensor but can't get the left crank pedal off

No experience with bikes.
The black piece is threaded until very tight, but the silver piece can go all the way in. Isn't it meant to go in a bit, and then pop out the crank pedal as I keep twisting?
Any help is appreciated :)

You need to crank it with a wrench, dude. Your are not twisting the silver piece in nearly hard enough.
Also, for the love of all that is holy, scrub down the place the cranks go on and the slots and apply some marine grease.

Wrong he needs to put a dime in the open area since this is a isis or octalink and that puller is made for square taper.

I have no idea what those words mean but I have a trek x500 bike and the pedal says shimano, at my breaks it says shimano alivio and at the back of the bike it says shimano dedre

They are saying you have cranks slightly incompatible with your crank puller so should place a dime, literal currency, in the slot to give a plate for it to push on.
I have never done that though, so take this with a grain of salt.

Got it, I suspected that the tool that yosepower provided was incompatible

Need a puller made for the the otctalink bottom bracket or try the coin in the hole trick .
ch3k520@reddit
Just put a dime or 2 in the open area where you screw in the puller, than try to pull the arm again.

Drop a dime...

In this economy?
Ok_Plenty4953@reddit
Funny but true. I bent a single dime because the cranks had been through some road corrosion on one bike i bought.

The internet is full of tutorials such as st Park Tool. You may wish to consult those resources before wrenching.
Cargobiker530@reddit
This is the way. I was sitting here pondering if it was a penny or dime from the last time I did that.
MotherAd6483@reddit
Yep, seems you're right! I'm still right on the grease though. 😅
EternalBornstellar@reddit (OP)
I did use a wrench. The silver piece goes all the way in and I used a wrench still, very hard and still doesn't pop off
kinga_forrester@reddit
If you just go for a ride without the bolt the crank will eventually fall off by itself, old trick.
Iddra_@reddit
I lost one of my bolts and it took months before the crank came loose.
ProExpert1S500@reddit
Probably a bit more destructive or risky though btw
EternalBornstellar@reddit (OP)
Lmao I'll try this
rvralph803@reddit
This appears to be a Shimano Octalink crank. That cannot be removed with a standard square taper removal tool -- which is why your tool is bottoming out with no result.
Check out the Parktool CP-44 tool
It has a wider mating surface than the tool you're using.
Wop-wops-Wanderer@reddit
Correct; however, OP's tool can still be useful if a couple of coins are used as the "wider mating surface".
Dramatic_Bluebird595@reddit
Use a couple of dimes or a universal puller similar to this one: https://a.co/d/01Nl1bVZ - note the cap that fits on the end of the screw to provide a wider end to push against the bottom bracket spindle...
hartlepaul@reddit
Boil a kettle of water and tip it over, the crank arm is ally and the shaft is steel. The arm will expand more and open up a swift tap might get it moving then..
Emerald-onewr@reddit
Did we try penetrating oil to help things slide.
Able-Total-881@reddit
As said use something like a small coin inside to brace between the bottom bracket taper and end of the tool. Otherwise the end of the tool just goes into the hollow part of the taper and does nothing as it's not working against anything.

2x4 and a hammer, that’s how us Bmx riders remove cranks
Krostovitch@reddit
You need to go to your local bike shop and get their help. You don't want to push through knowing nothing and destroy your crank threads...
Ohm_Slaw_@reddit
Does the silver part bottom out? I would apply some PB Blaster or WD40, let it sit overnight, do multiple applications. Also tapping the crank from multiple angles might help it to loosen up.
Those things can be a pretty tight fit, and it looks like you've had some corrosion.
lewisc1985@reddit
There’s no plate at the end of the crank puller, it’s just gonna sink into the threads and potentially fuck up your spindle. You need a wide circular plate that clips onto the tip of the crank puller to press against the spindle
