Anti theft key indicator on, battery replaced, what to do?

I have a 2015 Toyota Camry SE and my husband drove my car for the first time alone yesterday to go to the store across the street. Since it was raining he decided to drive instead of walking. He was there and back in 7 minutes. We laughed about how fast he got back. The next day (today) we were going to run a few errands and he was able to unlock the car but the car won’t start and the anti theft lock indicator is on. I read online to get out the car, lock the doors then unlock them again. The lock and unlock buttons doesn’t work anymore. At this point we can’t get back into the car. I’ve just ordered doordash to replace the battery (CR 2016) but the battery isn’t the issue. The key fob remote still don’t function properly. My driver door handle had broke 5-6 weeks ago so I can’t put the key in the car door handle but the trunk will open. I haven’t climbed into the trunk yet. I’m pretty frustrated and trying to calm down before trying a different approach. FYI I’ve seen him drive plenty of times and he’s a responsible driver or else I wouldn’t have trusted him with my car but I’m not sure if he triggered the indicator to turn on. I was wondering is there something else we could do to avoid going to a locksmith?

If you can get into the car insert your key in the ignition and turn the key to the on position for 15 minutes. Your anti theft light should start to blink. After it starts blinking turn of the ignition and wait 3 minutes and then try starting it.

There's nothing he could of done to trigger this. Cars are weird. I've seen this Happen for no reason at all. Update after you've changed the key battery

It's in her post the doors are now locked and they can't get into the car

I see that. Her wording was a bit hard to understand if she got the new key battery or not.
If she can go through the trunk and get the door open I would try the reset procedure and go from there.

Try changing the key fob battery...
10 years old. Husband or someone could have continuously pressed a button in a pocket or something and drained it.

It’s in the post that I’ve changed it…

Oh I missed that...

Do you have another remote/key? Keys do go bad.

I get blamed for everything. Work, home, vacation, if something goes wrong, I get blamed for it.
