South East of Romania 🇷🇴. My grandma always called these "Gigi Papa". For a lot of time, until later adulthood i believed this was a made up name by my family, as nobody else was calling them like this. Until i googled it one day and even found romanian recipes using this name. But most romanians would use "paine in ou" which literally translates as "bread in egg" and others call them "frigănele". Now i just learned, from your post, that the original name is actually Cici Papa and its Turkish. 🤯 Most likely it was called Gigi, because it was/is a very popular romanian nickname. So Cici was actually localized for the Romanian audience. :)) Thank you for this post!!!
