AR 15 with a billet receiver and PRI delta handguard, spray painted, no sights of any kind.
Wildkarrde_@reddit
There's several examples of sightless ARs on TWD. Not sure where they all went.
Minimum-Web-6902@reddit
Likely that batteries would be dead and most aight batteries in my experience are not rechargeable as far as I know.
FewResearcher819@reddit
How well do yellow dots show up in the daytime? Or against a white or light colored paper target?
Minimum-Web-6902@reddit
Excellent if you have a stigmatism, it was well worth the money.
Unicorn187@reddit
Iron sights, whether fixed or folding will keep working.
An Aimpoint CompM4 or M4s using a AA or the compm5 with a AAA will last ten years on it's middle setting without ever turning it off. A lithium will go a coupme years longer. An alkaline battery will still have 80s of it's life after sitting on a shelf for 10 years. A lithium will go 20 years. So either would get you a few more years of use from an aimpoint.
Coin cells will have about a decade shelfife, and are easy to stock up and store. But you'd go through one a year or so.e
An ACOG or any tritium optic or sight will dim, but the ACPG will still be a scope and a light gathering fiver optic when it's a little less bright out. An iron sight with a tritium insert will still be an iron sight.
WindstormMD@reddit
There’s also rechargeable batteries and solar charging. I could lose mains power right now and still be able to run small electronics and battery driven stuff for a long long time (decades) with redundant charging stations and backup panels as well
Unicorn187@reddit
Lithium ion AAs with a low self discharge rste would work well for a few years. Charge twice a year and it would last as long as most of us would be alive.
mcbergstedt@reddit
You’d think they’d at least have makeshift iron sights
532ndsof@reddit
PRI delta handguard and notably for some reason a barrel about the same length. No idea why anyone would do that.
ArkaneArtificer@reddit
If you run a suppressor it would look and work well, this is not one such case
Sianmink@reddit
looks like it might be a Troy claymore muzzle brake under there.
And no sights, naturally.
ArkaneArtificer@reddit
It’s the walking dead, they always either have no sights or several, either backwards, or completely blocked by a flashlight, or all of the above at the same time (minus no sights obviously)
Tyrfaust@reddit
My personal favorite is the ACOGs blocked by chainsaw grips.
BlindMan404@reddit
I'm doubly surprised they thought far enough ahead to fit it with what looks like a linear comp so at least the handguard won't burst.
bowtie_k@reddit
Hollywood because it looks cool I guess.
Idk I've seen plenty of absolutely brain dead "builds" proudly posted on reddit.
Sumnir_@reddit
Braindead builds IRL is my headcanon explanation for them in movies and shows. Especially post-apocalyptic ones.
Correct-Avocado5426@reddit
I could maybe see the justification being that they have to scrounge up whatever parts they can find because of the zombie apocalypse, but it's probably because some production designer thought it looked cool.
iLoveToStreetRace@reddit
Not sure if that’ll work for TWD. There are just as many guns in the show as there are people
TacosNGuns@reddit
I’ve lost count of sightless bolt action and AR rifles. I suspect the sightless bolt actions are a conscious decision, that being they obstruct the actor’s face.
TargetOfPerpetuity@reddit
Like cars in movies missing headrests.
TacosNGuns@reddit
I always love when the mesh divider in police cars disappears and reappears multiple times in a scene.
Redrum_71@reddit
And rearview mirrors.
BantedHam@reddit
What upper though?
bowtie_k@reddit
Idk, feel free to google "billet upper" and look at images til you find one that looks like that
Left-Lingonberry-821@reddit
Idk about the rifle but the handguard is from PRI Im pretty sure it's Gen 1 or 2 PRI Delta carbon fiber forarm
nachobox@reddit
AR with weird handguard
Twissn@reddit
And no sights
okaaay_thennn@reddit
id dog on that in any other show but honestly, in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, i don’t think gun parts/mods would be easily stumbled upon, so i won’t really knock the show for giving daryl an ar with no sights. seems like something completely possible in the middle of an apocalypse
Soggy_Cheek_2653@reddit
"in a zombie apocalypse" you're most likely to find a stock AR-15 with no frills or a Ruger 22, not this weird useless piece of shit
Pepe__Le__PewPew@reddit
Real men raw dog the rail.
BoSknight@reddit
Look through the gap on the pic rail, you'll get it close enough
one_who_reads@reddit
And no sights of any kind.
justfirfunsies@reddit
He’s definitely pretending to aim pretty good tho
Crawlerzero@reddit
I didn’t get very far into this show, but I definitely got the impression that if there were any character that could “good enough” eyeball a shot, it would be him.
justfirfunsies@reddit
That’s fair… but those zombies are slow anyways I think you could just point blank them
Auslander808@reddit
It's made that way so that you can cup your hande over the end. It's quieter.
/s
EsotericAbstractIdea@reddit
Until you shoot it
coldafsteel@reddit
Not really a "weird" handgaurd. It's a PRI, designed to be used with a much longer barrel. In this case they just used a short barrel and tucked a liner comp into it. It's just an odd combination of normal parts (and is missing sights).
Igreener@reddit
And no sights on it….
Redhaze_17@reddit
Peak* handguard with a way too short barrel.
One-Company9334@reddit
CamoCid@reddit
PRI delta hand guard might look weird but its top quality stuff
TXxReaper@reddit
Was going to say the exact same thing.
Veteran_PA-C@reddit
It’s the finger remover 2000.
ArkaneArtificer@reddit
FAL handguard maybe?
the_cofishioner@reddit
Its a pri delta tube
ArkaneArtificer@reddit
Ah thanks
TheHancock@reddit
I feel like Hollywood armorers have no idea what they’re doing. Lol
DontBelieveTheirHype@reddit
As far as guns in TV shows go, The Walking Dead does a pretty decent job of it. Weirdest stuff is like everyone wearing a right-hand holster on their left side, or semi auto rifles magically firing in full auto, stuff like that mostly
ratmanmedia@reddit
Because they don’t, just ask Halyna Hutchins
FortunateHominid@reddit
Imo the wrong person got blamed. Watched the trial and the woman got railroaded. Set cheaped out on safety and was horribly run.
ChiefFox24@reddit
But she really didn't know what she was doing.
ratmanmedia@reddit
Just like all Hollywood armorers, none of them should ever touch firearms (fake or real)
Themountaintoadsage@reddit
How is it not her fault for having live ammo anywhere near blanks and mixing those up???
ThundahMuffin@reddit
Isn't that the lady who is the daughter of one of the most famous Hollywood armorers and wasn't on set of the time of the incident that they blamed on her?
KnightofWhen@reddit
Her dad is a semi-famous weapons instructor who is sometimes credited as an armorer. Knowledge also isn’t passed down through genetics.
And the armorer NOT BEING ON SET when a gun is on set is a SIGN OF A HORRIBLE ARMORER.
She brought live ammunition to set. She left live firearms unattended. If she did her job at least semi-competently the incident never occurs.
I worked in Hollywood for 20 years. I have a prop master card, I’ve been an armorer, I’ve handled firearms on set.
The incident was 99.9% her fault and .1% the fault of the first AD.
The courts agreed.
fedroxx@reddit
No, that's the lady that was killed.
ThundahMuffin@reddit
Oh okay well yeah she was killed because there wasn't even an armorer onset when that happened.
Cute_Specific_1605@reddit
Then how did anyone have access to the guns? Armorers job to keep them secure.
Fun-Platypus3675@reddit
I read that due to covid protocols she wasn't deemed essential enough to be allowed on set.
ThundahMuffin@reddit
Because the executive producer whose job it was to make sure stuff like that didn't happen was not strict with safety standards on set. There multiple incidents of people getting injured in other ways throughout production which is why one of the stunt teams quit. Realistically the person who's responsible for everything and is guilty of heavy criminal negligence is the executive producer. Their job is to oversee the entire production to make sure that paperwork checks out, OSHA standards are enforced, and that everyone's doing their job. The executive producer was Alec Baldwin by the way.
Paladin_3@reddit
If that's the case then it's definitely the armorer's duty to walk off the set and raise such a public stink that production grinds to a halt until they resume proper firearm safety. Lives literally depend on it.
Just because we may not like Alec Baldwin and his anti-gun buffoonery, doesn't mean we allow the armorer to shirk her responsibility, no matter how new to the profession or overwhelmed she claims she was.
There was a lot of failure on a lot of people's parts, but she was the one who was supposed to be there as the ultimate check and to sound the alarm, and she did not.
Bum_King@reddit
Why wasn’t the armorer on set when they were filming scenes with guns?
antariusz@reddit
The opposite of what you said.
ThundahMuffin@reddit
Thank you for the clarification. Someone beat you to it
Queen_of_Audacity@reddit
Its about what looks good on camera to the majority of the audience. Not necessarily what the fictional characters would have irl. It isn't a documentary.
Paladin_3@reddit
True. And I can forgive John Wayne for coming home from the Civil War in the mid 1860s with an 1873 Colt SAA that seems to hold eleventy rounds and can knock an injun off his horse at 200 yards, but ain't it just beautiful when they do get it right and all the guns are historically accurate and makes sense? chef's kiss
NaughtyTigerIX@reddit
Sometimes in an apocalypse or zombie type end of world scenario, you gotta take what you can get. If you come across an AR with no hand guard then come across a weird ass hand guard later on that’s way too long, you can still use it even though it’ll look weird as hell 🤷♂️
kne0n@reddit
It’s more like they never have the freedom to do what makes sense. The rare directors who are into guns and let the armorers do their job the movie turns out to be a classic like HEAT but 99% of the time it’s some producer who has never shot a gun saying something doesn’t fit the look they are going for.
Prestonification@reddit
You're correct about for about 98% of them. I quit watching TWD like 3 seasons in, but even just Daryl with his crossbow is frustratingly unrealistic, I can't imagine them nailing the guns all the time. Decent and realistic firearm depictions are so rare it sticks with me in a positive way when they actually do a good job. The series Godless (Western) actually does a phenomenal job until the finale.
schmuckmulligan@reddit
THHWUUNK
"All right, hold on a second, I gotta get this thing ready to go again. Anybody see my cocking aid?"
A regular bow makes some sense to have around because it's quiet and can be fired repeatedly reasonably quickly. A crossbow is stupid beyond belief.
Baby_ForeverDM@reddit
Or they do and the idea is this weapon is cobbled together spare parts
spank_the_tank@reddit
They have no experience, it’s purely “vibes”.
TheHancock@reddit
But like, don’t you have to be an FFL to do it? I just feel like you should know SOMETHING…
spank_the_tank@reddit
I think it’s just like any other job in movie production where being successful is more about nepotism and word of mouth as opposed to expertise.
Dewage83@reddit
*the world
ThundahMuffin@reddit
I do not believe you need to be an FFL to be an armorer. Because you're not selling guns. Nor are you transferring ownership of the guns en Mass. So you're doing nothing that would really require an FFL
mattumbo@reddit
I think a lot of them are FFL SOTs so they can acquire post sample MGs for the movies and the FFL makes it easier for them to ship and buy firearms, especially in more restrictive states.
ThundahMuffin@reddit
Well yes a lot of them might be. But I don't believe there's any requirements for it. As you don't necessarily need post sample MGs. A lot of filming is done with airsoft replicas for guns that they can't get easily. Technically there's no requirement to have actual arms on set at all. The armor is just the one in charge of the weapons in general. Whether it be guns airsoft guns real swords blunt swords. If there are weapons on set there is supposed to be an armorer responsible for handling them. To my knowledge at least.
chewedgummiebears@reddit
I think they do, but they dumb down builds in media to prevent meme or copycat users who then commit crimes.
Mountain_Man_88@reddit
I assume its a combination of armorers doing ridiculous stuff for the memes and production crews ignoring them because silly things like optics and irons will just get in the way.
TheBubbles47_Real@reddit
Gun
ComradeGarcia_Pt2@reddit
This gun has always kind of vexed me. It only shows up in this scene and always felt like they wanted to do some kind of futuristic weapon for whatever reason.

Gunlover91@reddit
8in 300blk with a 11in handgaurd likely was ment for a suppressor to nest into but for some reason its missing.
KccOStL33@reddit
It's an AR15 with what looks like a PRI triangular free float tube and the barrel is barely clearing the tube.
NauticalClam@reddit
It’s an ar, they’re just using a really long handguard for that barrel length. The weapons in this show drove me nuts.
Steveesq@reddit
Ar-15
jdgomez775@reddit
It’s an AR-15 with a PRI triangle hand guard.
Thebeerguy17403@reddit

Bubba'd the fuck out ar with a weird handguard and no sights
Sir_Donndubhain@reddit
Im guessing some manner of AR with a Gen III PRI Delta handguard
antle702@reddit
TWD had so many crimes against guns it was insane.
apuhlii@reddit
Bruh the amount of disinformation in this comments sections. It's a seekins ar15.
For those of you that know nothing about firearms, seekins is the manufacturer. They are known for really high quality ar15s/ar10s that are meant for long range precision shooting.
Normie316@reddit
It’s hard to tell without the optic
Ok-Preparation8719@reddit
Do those she'll casings still have the bullets in them?
gagemoney@reddit
Also ejecting and entire round with the bullet still attached 😂
18onefourtyfour@reddit
Looks like it’s still on safe.
JulieMcRoyce@reddit
The no sights special.
EagleSix6@reddit
Thats an AR
ThexCobra@reddit
AR15 with a really ugly handguard and winter cerakote
WhySo4ngry@reddit
Forget the missing sights, it's ejecting full cartridges
GrendelDerp@reddit
An AR with no sights or optics.
Panthean@reddit
As the seasons progressed on TWD.. their AR's got fucking weirder and weirder.
Kind of odd considering it is set around \~2003.
Apparently many of the early 2010's AR companies kept making stuff past the apocalypse.
MojoCrow@reddit
This is something that always bothers/annoys me about post-apocalyptic shows. TWD is set 2003-ish so that should be a fixed point in time with nothing post 2003 making an appearance and that includes cars. I guess production companies have pretty much zero interest in caring that much especially about guns and their accessories.
corporalgrif@reddit
Yeah isn't the delta PRI a modern product?
Also if it was 2003 you'd see alot more ban era semi autos than customized AR-15's.
Panthean@reddit
Yeah I was recently re watching the show and I legit have no idea where they came up with those guns, so many of them make no sense for the time period.
Andiflag1991@reddit
Wait... arent those blanks with the crimped tip? Or are they just animated poorly and used full cartridge models?
One of my major gripes with TWD was, that they animated the muzzle flashes really badly (at least the episodes i watched)
So i'm wondering, did TWD step up their game later in the show and use blank firing guns?
Gojira_82@reddit
They did actually use blanks regularly up until around this season/episode. Then they transitioned to airsoft and Adobe After Effects and the quality went down the shitter.
GrowInVt0334@reddit
I just commented on this too.
GrowInVt0334@reddit
Anyone else noticing the bullets ejecting are NOT fired?
FarOpportunity-1776@reddit
556 blanks. The brass tip is crimped so theyre longer and can look similar to live rounds
JTP1228@reddit
Pretty sure the top one is not a blank
GrowInVt0334@reddit
Looks too pointy to be crimped no? I swear I swear a crimp and pointy projectile.
highvelocitypeasoup@reddit
M200a1 for reference
quickscopemcjerkoff@reddit
Looks like a really stupid AR-15 build, with no sights or optics of course.
JTP1228@reddit
I love how he is looking down the imaginary sights.
Demon-of-Razgriz@reddit
Is it me or is it ejecting the bullets still in casing?
BlackendLight@reddit
No sights is wild
JackFuckCockBag@reddit
Wow, no optic or iron sights? The armorer must have been asleep.
Rudukai13@reddit
The Walking Dead, S7E16, IMFDB says it’s a modified Seekins Precision AR15
f0rcedinducti0n@reddit
Ar15 with a short barrel and a too long triangular pri hand guard. Cnc receivers.
spank_the_tank@reddit
It’s just an a regular AR15 with a Delta handguard that is way too long for the barrel. Rifle length handguard on an 11 or 12 inch barrel maybe?
Armourer has no idea what they are doing and just thought it looked cool.
lordhamster1977@reddit
Well then again. In a post apocalyptic world it isn’t like they can just go on the internet and order the right parts. Presumably weapons would be pieced together from whatever you can scavenge. So from this standpoint the mismatched hardware is probably realistic.
spank_the_tank@reddit
You’re not wrong, though I would imagine they would at least have some iron sights in the post-apocalypse.
lordhamster1977@reddit
You’d hope.
Austinswill@reddit
Uhh... there is absolutely no sights on it... and the ejected casings still have bullets in them.
ShotgunEd1897@reddit
The lack of imagination in this thread is disappointing, especially in a gun sub. No one has ever made something wacky?
nariosan@reddit
No idea what it is but if it's an AK they get super hot to the touch (thin metal) his hand would toast literally.
MT_Pocketss@reddit
I remember seeing something about this back when it was on tv. IIRC it was from a video game. Seems like it was before Fortnight. But it was a popular game at the time.
No idea if it’s true. I’m sure someone here will know
Heamsthornbeard@reddit
What would be cooler is any type of sights 😆
Haji-san@reddit
Ngl, as I was scrolling I thought this was a blowgun with muzzle flash 😂
TankerKing2019@reddit
It’s an ar that ain’t got no fuckin sights!
Brian-88@reddit
I don't think it's an AR, that stock/buffer tower join doesn't look right, and I think I see a QD slot where the rear takedown pin should be?
iLoveToStreetRace@reddit
That QD lookin thing reminds me of CA compliant rear takedown pins. They can’t have magazines that drop like the rest of the country, but they can have a mag that drops when you take apart the gun, so someone designed a takedown pin that opens the gun fast to speed up reloads. Not sure if that’s what it is though, I’m not too familiar as a Texan but have seen them on social media from time to time
Brian-88@reddit
I forgot those exist but that doesn't explain the weird buffer-stock area geometry. I think that guy's folding buffer adapter might be it.
Deeschuck@reddit
It could be a something like this.
