Fuck yeah
puppable@reddit
Great! now I can finally make the switch for good.
rmyworld@reddit
I love the implication that someone out there is still using their Sega Dreamcast for Linux. And not only that, they want to use it with the latest version of the Linux kernel. Madlads.

Console hackers are another breed.
Realistic_Account787@reddit
not another, a different breed.

There is also an official NetBSD port. It is tier 2, but it is maintained.

mandrake on dreamcast was my first encounter with Linux in 2001. It was terrible. I loved it.

From the patcher's github
He also has this cool thing: https://github.com/foxdrodd/dreamcast-linux

Even Gentoo doesn't have SuperH support, so you're 100% on your own with such hardware. NetBSD, on the other hand, has proper support including an actual Dreamcast port.
Kangie@reddit
It has been done, there's just no official support.
AssistingJarl@reddit
Well, of course it runs NetBSD
iphones2g-@reddit
Think this was for people who connected the gdrom right up to the PC. Or some madlads compiled the Linux kernel for superH
monocasa@reddit
Looking at the patch, it appears to be targeting the Dreamcast itself.
And FWIW, an embedded distro (using the term lightly) like yocto isn't any more wild for Dreamcast than really any other embedded system.
intelminer@reddit
We used to have SuperH support! I had Gentoo on a dreamcast about 16~ years ago as a joke. Ran an IRC server from a burnt CD
vinciblechunk@reddit
Glad it works on GDEMU. I swapped my actual optical drive out years ago.
monocasa@reddit
Looks like this patch is targeting the Dreamcast itself rather than just the GDROM (say, connected to a PC or something).
Certainly means someone cares about SH, which is one of the last archs that Rust doesn't have support for that Linux does that seems to have traction still.
TSiQ1618@reddit
dos this mean we're we on?
Oh, we Virtual-On(1999) baby!
aawsms@reddit
Larashill couldn't prevent himself from posting a sponsored Amazon link for a $200 used Dreamcast lmao.
