How do Balkan people think about the film 'Svadba'?

I haven't watched the film yet, but the plot seems very interesting, especially considering relationships between two countries.
How do most people in Croatia and Serbia think about this movie? Overally positive or negative? Also is it popular in other ex-yugo countries?
OldInjury8101@reddit
watched it in cinema (Croatia) and whole room was consistently laughing out loud. I also loved it, mostly because they made fun of very frequent elements of our culture
youckfou@reddit
Good jokes, simplistic. Its like watching a comedy sketch the length of a movie. Good jokes tho
Charming_Resort_6165@reddit
What do, ne how do
real_dado500@reddit
It's a movie I already saw like 10 times, once it was american, once it was french, etc. I don't get the praise.
Avtomati1k@reddit
cause we were able to make one ourselves?
resident-117@reddit
i saw it in the cinema with my mom, i loved it :)
taraba707@reddit
Kak vi janezi, gledate nase filmove sa titlovima, sinkronizirano ili dovoljno razmete da vam nista od toga ni ne treba?
Avtomati1k@reddit
mami ne trebaju titlovi sigurno

Shity movie
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
It’s fine. It’s a comedy, no thoughts afterwards, movie lol.
So people that criticise it, expected something different, than the movie itself never pretended to be. It’s not a deep movie, it’s fun pastime. Some jokes are outdated, some are actually funny.
As for the subject matter, it’s not anything new, or controversial. We literally have Serbo-Croatian reality shows where people hookup all the time lol.
Plus even in the past, in war movies, it was always the same plot points, some war propaganda (depending on whose movie it is), some flashbacks to YUGO “good” times and a love story between some variation of Serbs and Croats lol.
AirAstana202@reddit (OP)
Oh so Serbo-Croatian relationship is nothing like Russo-Ukrainian or Israel-Arab, but more close to Turkey-Greece beef?
Gira21@reddit
It's best to compare it as a UK - Ireland relationship at this point, and it's even good comparison language wise.
Magistar_Idrisi@reddit
It's definitely not comparable to Israeli-Arab relations hahah. Maybe closer to pre-2014 Ukrainian-Russian relations?
Greeks and Turks might be an okay-ish comparison, but you know... they don't speak the same language; Croats and Serbs do.
UsuallySus33@reddit
I feel like people that are strongly nationalistic and have the actual beef between eachother also arent the types to date and marry eachother..and if they are fine with dating/marryng, then such "beef" is more comparable to say, Scandinavian countries that always banter with eachother but arent rly serious about it. Still, having serb-croat married likely shouldnt be seen as very shocking by anyone, as it is not anything new.
Magistar_Idrisi@reddit
It isn't new, and it isn't uncommon, but it can definitely lead to tensions within families if the parents / siblings / cousins are nationalists.
UsuallySus33@reddit
True, it can..but if someone has a nationalistic familly, then getting married to anyone outside of their own nation will lead to tensions. I guess such tensions between croat-serb families might be to some degree stronger due to war topic..but then agian, this movie isnt about families genuinely hating eachother and forbiding the marriage, but having dumb banters based on common stereotypes, so idk who cares..its a 3rd grade level comedy and some are taking it way to seriously.
LegioXI89@reddit
I wouldn't even said turkey-Greece because they have beef much longer than we do, serbs and croats are "enemies" for the last maybe 80 years, in Serbia that "natural enemy" is ofc turkey like other balkan nations and if you want to go old school Bulgarians, we were fighting pretty much throughout the whole middle ages (I mean royal families but if you look at it from today's perspective) and if it wasn't for ottomans that would been the case for the next 400 years probably, GOATed like England and France, Croats are just more recent 😂 and Albanians ofc
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
I really wouldn’t compare, because i don’t know enough about, Turkey and Greece relations, for example.
I’m just saying, it’s not exactly a precedent to show such relationships in ex yu cinematography, or media in general.
EntertainmentDeep73@reddit
Very cringe and unfunny but it could have been worse
Everything is based on "lol croats hate serbs!!!" to the point where it gets boring after 10min
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
Why do i find this review funny lol.
Altruistic-Life-2382@reddit
Great movie.
Mysterious_Contact_2@reddit
Honestly, i havent had such a good laugh in a long time. And again, brings out the sad truth of how similar (same) we are, yet so apart
IvaCoMne@reddit
Watched it in cinema and tbh i liked it, nothing impressive but I don’t think that was their aim, it was a movie to make 35+ people laugh, it had few good jokes, made fun of ‘forever hate’ between serbs and croats and presented a typical businessman of this region and thats it. I like it. Haters will forever hate. I would watch it again.
cipiMov@reddit
most of the Balkan movies are basically the same movie..
edgeofsock@reddit
Lol no
Salty-Succotash3338@reddit
I really enjoyed it. Yeah, there's a few shirt-collar tugging jokes in there, but it achieves a great balance between clever and stupid humor, with some beautiful visuals and a great ensamble cast. One of my favorite releases of the year so far.
messy_closet157@reddit
It's not the best movie ever, but I'm happy to finaly watch a movie that makes fun of Croats, Serbs, war and all the rest. I had great time watching it.
Also, Gaga rules.
UsuallySus33@reddit
I didn't watch..but also dont see whats so interesting or shocking about serb-croat marrige as i know plenty of such marriages and nobody cares, its nothing new or weird.
Lvl100Centrist@reddit
I dont' even know what this movie is about or who made it but I know for a fact that it will be full of overaccting, dumb humor and a lot of stereotypes
amazingamy19@reddit
You are correct on all accounts lol.
It’s about Serbian guy and Croatian girl getting married, and their families organising the wedding lol.
Lvl100Centrist@reddit
lol I sort of figured it out bt looking at the priests.
let me guess what the first scene is: a woman calls another woman on the phone, she says something like "mom do you know who Stefan is dating?" "WHO?" "A CROATIAN, AND SHE IS CATHOLIC!!!11"
mom then screams noooooo like Luke Skywalker
oh and the women in the movie talk at least 170decibel, basically louder than a jet engine w/ afterburner blasting in your ear. except the lead actress - she is timid and slightly embarassed in all scenes
I can keep going but I think I can narrate the whole movie from memory even if I haven't watched it
amazingamy19@reddit
You are close, but they actually have a separate Skype call with their families 😂. The reactions and the questions are as you would imagine 😂
Steel-Wasp@reddit
I think its trash.
KrunoOs@reddit
Nothing special but than again it isn't pretentious to be anything more than - 90 minutes of innocent fun.
amazingamy19@reddit
I wonder what would people think, if there weren’t priests in the pic, who is who lol
Stverghame@reddit
Haven't watched and I most likely won't watch
I dislike domestic "comedies" espesially with that cliche topic this movie covers.
zanesenjak_@reddit
It is pretty generic. The humour is cheasey, mostly based on yelling and cussing.
krsCarrots@reddit
Have not seen it but they all wear suits which doesn’t check out with the common balkan vibe. No hairy chests unbuttoned shirts and fat golden chains
samostrout@reddit
I saw the movie. I mean it's mostly a comedy based on the Serbia and Croatia relationship, but nothing out of the extraordinary
SrboBleya@reddit
I haven't watched it yet, but the story seems interesting enough.
CakiGM@reddit
Haven't met anyone irl who didn't like it
Weissenburg_21@reddit
It's decent. It's not a masterpiece, but it has its charm. The thing that does make the movie a bit less likeable is the large amount of fairy tail/fantasy. It is a little boomeresque, but honestly it isn't much of a problem (at least for me, as a 23 year old). I'd give it a 7/10.
