Well…. Um okay, vegan fish? Vegan canned tuna? How. Lol
Savageleo_420@reddit
Why is this so watery ?Y you'd think you'd drain the tuna juice first .
jeapplela@reddit (OP)
Adding vegan mayonnaise to it somehow made the jelly that it came in liquefy, hence the soupy consistency. It's horrendous.
Rosaly8@reddit
If you want to wat a high protein vegan meal, you don't have to make it disgusting.

What's in your recipe?
jeapplela@reddit (OP)
vegan tuna, pickles, celery, onion and vegan mayonnaise
spicywingydingy@reddit
Looks like my cat’s wet food. 🤮
jeapplela@reddit (OP)
It looks exactly like that & smells similar.
Yaughl@reddit
What do vegans try so hard to approximate meat? That would be similar to me going to great lengths to make a steak look, smell, feel, and taste like a carrot. It’s absurd.
Miko48@reddit
Many vegan and vegetarians don’t, I’ve been vegetarian for over a decade and rarely eat fake meat, it’s expensive and not always the healthiest. I much prefer legumes as a protein source. But I think for a lot of people looking to cut back on meat consumption, fake meat makes for an easier transition. Plus it means you don’t have to miss out on things like cookouts or thanksgiving.
jeapplela@reddit (OP)
Exactly. The story of this monstrosity is that some people gifted my partner and I like 25 cans of this vegan tuna. We're both vegans so we have to like it right? I don't like wasting food so I tried to make a tuna salad out of it thinking it would be more palatable. It is not. :( Luckily, my partner is still eating it so it won't go to waste, but I just can't.
Miko48@reddit
Oh that’s always a bit of a bummer. I’ve had well intentioned family give me fake meat products before that I then have to figure out how to make it palatable lmao.
jeapplela@reddit (OP)
We still have so. much. of. it. too. Luckily my partner seems to really not mind it. He even ate a few cans plain straight out of the can. I am also not a picky eater, and will eat pretty much anything if it's vegan, but this I just cannot do. I tried it a few times and I start gagging immediately. It's vile.
I found out that the person who gave it to us made a ton of it to sell at a farmer's market. Surprisingly it didn't sell well, so she's got hundreds of cans. It doesn't expire til 2027 so I am still trying to think of things I could make with it.
DamonLazer@reddit
Also. Those look like English cucumbers in there, or some kind of cucumber, and they have a lot of water in them, so that may be a factor as well. It’s too late for this batch but if you dare attempt this again, I’d suggest putting the cucumber slices on a paper towel and lightly salting one side, wait about 10 minutes and flip them and salt the other side. The salt will pull the moisture out of the cucumbers and into the paper towel, so that way you can add then to your salad without turning it into that soupy monstrosity.

It was immediately watery after adding the vegan mayonnaise. Something reacted with the jelly stuff that was in the tuna cans. I was hoping that the pickles would distract from the terrible flavor but unfortunately the dominant flavor is this 'tuna' which is extremely unpleasant and slightly fishy.
Bottombottoms@reddit
Your argument is absurd...
But if you wanted to make fake veggies out of meat, no one is stopping you. I enjoy the texture and tastes of certain meat. I just don't think I need something to die for a simple pleasure. It's my own personal reasons.
EmergencyGrocery3238@reddit
Ok I see your gag, now show the salad
Conscious-Milk-990@reddit
Make it with chickpeas, it will be edible and not liquid or gag-inducing!
jeapplela@reddit (OP)
Yeah, copying this comment to give some background: The story of this monstrosity is that some people gifted my partner and I like 25 cans of this vegan tuna. We're both vegans so we have to like it right? I don't like wasting food so I tried to make a tuna salad out of it thinking it would be more palatable. It is not. :( Luckily, my partner is still eating it so it won't go to waste, but I just can't.
ETA: Adding vegan mayonnaise to it somehow made the jelly that it came in liquefy, hence the soupy consistency. It's horrendous.
Dead-HC-Taco@reddit
Why even call it tuna salad if theres no tuna
NiobiumThorn@reddit
You could just fucking look it up instead of repeating the same thing like a bot.
Far-Dimension3508@reddit
I can smell this picture
Khris777@reddit
What is the "tuna" made of?
jeapplela@reddit (OP)
Pea protein

This is exactly me when I look at it.
Banana_Stanley@reddit
Who is doing this to you
Substantial_Top_9146@reddit
You should try mashing chickpeas instead
Yaughl@reddit
Then why don’t you just call it pea salad?
Kingslayer-Z@reddit
And why is it called tuna
ItsOKtoFuckingSwear@reddit
They do that with vegan food even though it doesnt have the actual meat protein in it. There’s vegan “bacon”, vegan “chicken” etc.
Description_Friendly@reddit
Exorcise that bowl!

Baron-Von-Mothman@reddit
So it's pea protein salad that is so watery it might as well be soup. What makes it tuna?
InSearchOfTyrael@reddit
yeah just call things whatever you want
olivinebean@reddit
Did someone forget to drain the water out of the tin?

I once got a can of 'Tuno' brand vegan ''''tuna'''' when I was veggie.
Reminded me of the cat food I bought for my pets as a kid, right down to the weird jelly it came in. Fucking revolting.
epidemicsaints@reddit
Was it canned? I had frozen Tuno and loved it.
lucasagus285@reddit
I hear most people put tuna in their tuna salads
WrenchPig@reddit
This is soup not salad
jeapplela@reddit (OP)
Just extra juicy! 💦
