What whey protein would you recommend? I’m vegetarian

i’m looking at Bulk’s whey protein(22g). One of my friend uses it and he says its good. I also found impact and optimum gold(only bigger tubs).
I would like to hear from vegetarians who have been using it for long term. Did you notice any side effects?
I have heard people having loss of hair and erection issues.
Thank you

My protein clear whey protein is pretty good, mixes well with water and tastes good. They’re all basically the same thing. So I’d just pick one you like the taste of and fits your vegetarian requirement.
Also it’s complete bollocks that it causes hair loss or erection issues, it’s basically just dehydrated milk with flavouring.

Its not really milk though is it, its whey. Its a byproduct of cheese manufacturing where all the milk goes into the cheese and whats left is whey.

Exactly this.

You can check this website that helps you compare protein products based on price. You can select source and narrow down to few options based on your budget and requirements

Think those people might be confusing protein powder with anabolic steroids

whey protein is whey protein. Find the one that you can tolerate taste wise. All will have similar affects

If you do end up getting Bulk protein DO NOT GET THE CHEAPEST (BASIC) ONE! It's absolutely vile! Get the pure ones, some nice flavours.
EvenTone55@reddit
I get why that’s worrying, there’s a lot of noise online about side effects. For most people, a basic whey protein doesn’t cause things like hair loss or those other issues, it’s usually more about overall diet, stress, or underlying stuff rather than the powder itself.
If you’re vegetarian, I’d just look for one with a simple ingredient list and see how you tolerate it, some people get a bit of bloating so starting with smaller servings helps. Also make sure the rest of your diet is covering basics like iron and B12, that tends to matter more long term than the specific brand.
If anything feels off after starting, just stop and reassess rather than pushing through. Are you using it to replace meals or just to top up protein?
brownboy0311@reddit (OP)
Thank you! I dont want to replace meals but i’m definitely lacking intake of protein in mine so just a top up on it through powder

My protein does some good vegetarian and vegan protein

Whatever you do, avoid pea protein isolate. I would rather eat Hitlers decomposed arse.
It was without doubt the worse thing I've ever tasted. I brought a big bag and couldn't even give it away it was so bad, not for lack of trying.
bookbookgo@reddit
Took me a second to realise what you were saying. My first thought was wow some people are so oblivious and self centred.
FemalePheromones@reddit
I use Protein Works vegan protein. In terms of vegan protein I've found it's the best one around in terms of g of protein per scoop, servings per bag, price.
Ignire the prices on their website as they claim it's always on sale but is actually just the normal price and you sometimes find it cheaper on Amazon.

You can’t get hair loss from drinking whey otherwise drinking milk would cause hairloss

You know what, now that i think about it, our milkman is bald.

My protein and Optimum nutrition and both very good. Huel is vegan protein but is more of a meal replacement, hence is slightly more calorie dense.
Prof_Hentai@reddit
Hipster gruel gets a lot of bad press, but it really is great for filling in nutritional holes in a lacking diet; whether it be protein, fibre, or vitamins.
Frosty_Leg4438@reddit
I’m a long term vegetarian.
I have no experience of whey, but I’ve been using Huel (salted caramel black version) for many years as an occasional food (from my coding days), primarily to ensure I keep my essential amino acids up, and have never experienced any serious side effects (other than very occasional extra wind).
I’m not a weight lifter but always have good tone and I believe a serving is higher in protein and Lyceine than whey.
As a veggie, whilst I’m not vegan, I do avoid dairy when I can (as arguably the whole process of making a cow give birth then separating it from its kids and taking its milk is crueler than killing it), which Whey would support.
Huel is pretty pricey though/you may find other/cheaper food supplements around that do the same thing.
Trash_Panda_Leaves@reddit
Yeah it affects blood flow, but if you already eat dairy its the same really.
In the simplest forms: Whey is milk, milk is designed to turn baby into child. Breastmilk is designed to be optimal for the baby to grow. Milk is a great alternative to starvation, and cheese helped us store milk long term. Human adults and cows are very different, so if you are going into optimal nutrition then yes it effects calcium intake, blood flow and fat gain.
Pea protein powder is pretty awesome imho. Not sure why, I just feel best on pea protein. There are other non dairy versions of protein powder you can look into if dairy concerns you.
Soy gets a bad rep but products like soymilk, soybeans, tofu, all help with hormonal balance and are anti-carcinogens as well. But the media has run away with the idea soy makes you weak. So be careful when doing your research.
All your macro intakes matter.
PaleMaleAndStale@reddit
Hair loss and ED are common side effects of anabolic steroid use. They have nothing to do with whey protein other than steroid users also tend to consume whey as part of a high protein diet.
Whey is a dairy byproduct, in case you weren't aware. Just mentioning in case you avoid dairy as part of your vegetarianism. There are non dairy alternatives to whey supplements out there that use a blend of plant proteins to give a complete profile.
As to what to buy, whey is whey as a general rule. Avoid brands that use fancy packaging to justify an inflated price. MyProtein used to be my go to but it's been a while so not sure if they're still good or not.
gibbonmann@reddit
My protein impact isolate is great, always a decent offer on with it too.bulk is decent also but the flavouring can be a bit meh on some flavours, I tend to gravitate towards the Myprotein stuff more so, it’s just seems to taste better.
Also some of their whey isolate is 25/26 grams a serving too
