My boyfriend is super into cars what stuff should I learn to make him happy ?

His favorite brand is Koenigsegg, I don't know a super lot about cars. Please help me :<
MikeR585@reddit
This is such a sweet thing to think about - you sound lovely :)
What you can do is try to join him if he goes to car shows, ask him lots of questions, and pay attention to the little things that he says he likes. Car guys are easy to buy gifts for if you pay attention ;)
Another thing that I’m sure he will really love is if you make it a mission to pick your own favourite kind of car. It’s something that he can engage in with you and the two of you can enjoy together.
Good luck!
Scared_Surround_724@reddit (OP)
but like how could I equate guns to cars (I'm more of a gun guy myself)
MikeR585@reddit
Oh cool - that’s an easy comparison.
You know how there are .45 guys and 9mm guys? Or any other of the different rabbit holes that guns can take you down? They’re all based on variables that appeal to different people for different reasons. You might like wood stocks and iron sights because it feels more traditional, just like it used to be. The next guy might prefer composite and high dollar scopes because the technology speaks to him.
Cars are the same.
The visceral power and punch-you-in-the-mouth style of muscle cars. The high strung scream of a Ferrari. The craftsmanship and pride in a low rider. The otherworldly skill that it takes to restore an old Gullwing Benz to factory condition.
They all speak to people, same way that guns do. Your guy is the same.
CheMeGreezne@reddit
They're both machines that serve a purpose, but can be much more.
You can appreciate the engineering and nuances between different mechanisms and the way they make you feel when you use them. You can express yourself through various customizations and modifications or enjoy them stock.

Watch the original Top Gear with Jeremy Clarkson. You might actually enjoy the show while learning about cars.
MikeyNoLikee@reddit
Didn’t see this yet. Just learn how to get in and out. No shoes on the door cards, try to get over the bolsters, no hand prints on the glass….He will be happy everytime he goes to detail the passenger side.

Tell him your favorite car is an e46.

Watch "The grand tour" on Amazon with him! It would help you get a bit aquainted and learn about cars in a fun way

Start watching Top Gear with him. Start from the beginning. Every car person loves this show
ZweetWOW@reddit
You don't need to learn anything, you just need to ask him questions and actually want to know the answer. Car people love explaining car stuff. "How does an engine work?" "Why is x car so popular?" "How do you make a car faster?"
A_Bot_A_Bot_A_Bot@reddit
Great answer! And this works for any personal interest or passion. People generally love to talk about their passions and interests and hobbies. You don't need to know anything, just ask questions and listen to the answers.

What is... car?
SirCarboy@reddit
This is it but I'd focus less on learning about how cars work unless you genuinely want to wrench on them. Instead, ask him why he specifically likes Koenigsegg? What stands out to him that makes it a better car? Does he like a certain colour? Or blacked out? Or chrome? He will appreciate your interest in him more than your interest in cars.

You don't really need to know anything. The best thing to do is to just show interest in what he likes, and ask questions related to it. Most car people enjoy explaining car related things very much.

Pick a car or a brand that you like, for any reason at all. They make cute cars, whatever. Pick one and learn about it and then you can share what you know when it comes up naturally. He'll be so surprised and you'll look like a badass

Unless he's absolutely one-dimensional, you don't need to learn anything about cars for his sake. I've never known a car guy that said "You're hot and have so many interesting characteristics, but... you don't know anything about cars, and that's a deal breaker."
eew-wee-eee@reddit

Banishedandbackagain@reddit
You guys sound fun, if he has a favourite brand like say, Skyline GTR, you can tease him by saying you heard the competitor car is better, which in this case would be a supra 2Jz.
You get the gist, so find out his car and ask perplexity some cheeky things to say about the vehicles contemporary
Glittering_Call_898@reddit
Koenigsegg...? That's a super car.... Actually hyper car. Very expensive. .001% (or less) of the population has one ask him what's the the car that he thinks is attainable for him self unless he's filthy rich. If he says anything that costs more than the average house in the area you live in. RUN Away
StrongStyleDragon@reddit
A cool model of his favorite car would be cool. Or any kind of merchandise from Koenigsegg. Best thing to do is to ask him about his favorite car or why he loves Koenigsegg. If you want it to be a surprise here’s a video ranking the best gifts for car people. Donut Media ranking the best car gifts
SpaceCat72@reddit
Just be a part of it. It might interest you or it might not . Just be a part and be there.
Visionary785@reddit
When I first knew my wife, she couldn’t even tell a Toyota from a Honda. She got herself interested in cars for my sake but, in my opinion, she’ll never reach a level where I can have a proper car conversation with her even after 20+ years. That’s all okay because I know she genuinely did that to increase the connection that we have.
So my advice is to be yourself in showing a genuine interest in what he likes, but there’s no need to try too hard. Guys like their ego stroked, so let him be the one to educate you about cars and just look like you’re listening intently. Some reading up in the background will help you get some involvement in his hobby. Good luck!
dubazuh@reddit
Honey, I think the V12s should come back to Formula One...
PckMan@reddit
That's a supercar brand. Assuming your boyfriend is not a multimillionaire, he probably won't get to have one at least for a while.
I don't think you have to do anything other than showing some interest in it from time to time.
reptifishv8@reddit
You dont need to learn so much as to just show interest. Theres no better feeling than having the missus or kids show enough interest about my car obsession to ask questions and even get involved in helping work on them. My partner at one point decided to get a toolkit and got me to teach her how to do little annoying things like fuse changes, headlight replacement and tyre changes. Just little stuff but the fun is in sharing the knowledge. One of my sons has no interest in real cars but is fascinated car games. We can have discussions about how does diff ratio effect a car or what's better turbo or supercharger. While the game may not match reality it's the discussion and knowledge sharing thats enjoyable.
ZweetWOW@reddit
Depends on the game lol - Asseto corsa is so realistic its indistinguishable, dudes learn how to drift in the game and can step into an actual car and link an entire track lol
reptifishv8@reddit
Yeah I couldn't say I haven't played a game since gran turismo 3. Video games just don't do it for me anymore for whatever reason. Old man syndrome creeping up or something 😆
dL_EVO@reddit
I honestly don’t care much if my partner likes cars. It’s cool if they do, but its okay if they don’t.
I wouldn’t force it here. Just be supportive where you can and that’s more than enough.

Legitimate-Duty-5622@reddit
You just have to engage you don’t have to learn everything about cars. Ask him why he likes Koenigsegg best over a Bugatti or Ferrari or McLaren or Pagani. You also can Google those cars and watch reviews of them. They’re all hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars they’re all go over 200 miles and some 300 miles an hour. They can all be driven on the street for the most part. They are the pinnacle of what man can build as a driving machine.

Tool_junkie_1972@reddit
Nothing. Absolutely zip. It is perfectly ok for you to have different interests. And if his being happy is tied to you learning his hobby, that’s a whole other issue. Now if you actually desire to learn, for yourself, that’s a different story. Otherwise, as others have said, listen to what he says. But you can allow him to have a hobby/interest that you basically aren’t involved in.
feedisk@reddit

Confident_Pace4554@reddit
I would say less about learning and more about doing. I would offer to go on a date with him to a local car show or meetup. Shows your appreciation for his hobby and interest. I would say personally I would rather value time together with the perosn I love at a car show vs getting gifted a model car
TunakTun633@reddit
I mean, the real answer is to ask him this question.
Speaking for myself, I want to explain it all myself! I’d want honesty - if you weren’t having fun, I could stop, or change the way I talk about it. But this is my world, and I have fun sharing it.
A great way to do this that’s half-learning about him, and half date-activity, is to watch a piece of car media that’s meaningful to him. A YouTube video, maybe an occasional episode of Top Gear, etc.
Here’s another one: Go to a car show or museum! Let him lore dump; it’s quite likely to happen.
I would deeply appreciate such effort, and would emphatically wish to reciprocate.
