I’m new to this city and I’m 38. Where do all the alternative people or artist hang around here. I don’t know many people here. I’m here for a while for work

What kind of music do you like? If you need a live music buddy let me know!
Fig-Adorable@reddit (OP)
Punk, electronic, blues, real country, metal, jazz, orchestra. Literally anything that just catches my ear
breonny@reddit
Four stages at the Fair.
KeyMistake604@reddit
My faves are post punk, shoegaze, indie, outlaw country, but truly I love seeing live music it's almost regardless of who it is.

Come to the Deep Ellum Community Arts Fair tomorrow. All the cool kids in town are here. 11a-8p, 2803 Taylor Street.
abject_objectivity@reddit
is it kid friendly enough to bring my 8 year old? been looking for something fun and artsy to do out of the house
breonny@reddit
Yes! There’s an Easter scavenger hunt beginning at 11 a.m. Lots of stuff for kids and prizes for adults, too.
SeasonofMist@reddit
Very much no. the area goes through cycles of being rough and intense. Absolutely not a place for kids friendly anything.
abject_objectivity@reddit
damn that sucks. I dont remember it being that bad when I was going to shows over there 2020ish. but I was usually drunk and not super situationally aware lol
SeasonofMist@reddit
Lol I get it. I don't want to be one of those people that makes it seem like ellum is dangerous. But ive seen wild stuff down there in normal daylight hours. Mostly just adults being stupid and impatient as fuck. A friend of mine got stabbed by a stranger when he was there after a gig, absolutely insane situation. I've had great times down there. But I also have felt......like why is this such a bonkers mess?
notinaweirdwayy@reddit
No.
healthyannihilation@reddit
Le Sol House in Oakcliff!
Fig-Adorable@reddit (OP)
I’ll definitely check it out

“Alternative people or artists”
Oh brother 🤦♂️
Fig-Adorable@reddit (OP)
Well I’m kinda tired of being around posh preppy people all day and I’m a very southern artistic man. Hearing money talk and bragging all day is pretty boring.
FirstAmendAnon@reddit
Deep ellum. I live there. What kinda music do u fuck with?
Fig-Adorable@reddit (OP)
Literally anything that sounds good
ShakyIncision@reddit
If you’re in Dallas proper, Deep Ellum as others have said. If you’re further north and REALLY want to find your people—drive up to Denton, even just for a weekend
whytakemyusername@reddit
He's 38... Denton is college town.
ShakyIncision@reddit
Non-college people live there—it’s a city with local hangouts too. Not just college scene. It’s an actual thriving community

If you want to do a bit of dancing, Panoptikon is a fun choice

Try the Grapevine Bar, 2213 Butler Street, Dallas
RPrit12@reddit
Oh yeah, Lower Greenville neighborhoods

And the Bishop Arts District. Places like The Texas Theatre, which is right next to the Oak Cliff Cultural Center and The Wild Detectives.
