A young gray whale that swam about 20 miles up southwest Washington’s Willapa River last Wednesday has died. After tribal members and wildlife officials searched for it Friday and couldn’t find it, many hoped it had made it back out to sea. Sadly, that wasn’t the case.

Beyond heartbreaking. Gray whales are critically endangered and this was a…starving young one. The blue whale is also critically endangered too. Too much ship noise (and getting injured or killed by them) and lack of food due rising ocean temperatures/pollution islands/fishing nets. We need to do better and protect the ocean, Earth.

Was really hoping at the worst it would have needed assistance in being lead out..
Can anyone more familiar with determining body condition in whales tell me if it looked more than just “thin” when it was first seen?
It looked very thin to me before and these photos make it look downright emaciated.
