Wsg yall imma do a year studying abroad in the UK and I’m in high school rn so what yall think the best towns are? On my list on top I have Grimsby then Ipswich then Slough then Norwich then Blackburn then Bradford then Lincoln then Carlisle then Southampton (but I’ve never been to Scunthorpe) then Wigan then Blackpool, are there any other towns I should be aware of? No large cities like London Leeds Liverpool or Birmingham btw

I can't tell if this is a joke or not. Do not go to Grimsby for Pete's sake.
Norwich is lovely and probably what you're looking for

I have a friend in Grimsby that’s mainly why
HumorPsychological60@reddit
Me too and they absolutely hate it. It's a really depressing place with not a lot going on.

In my town we essentially just have a Starbucks and a Target, it may be cloudy but the beach is sand and I can watch every Town match, Hull is not very far, same with Lincoln and Scunthorpe (which I can see unlike Tinie Tempah) if I get bored and I can travel to other cities within a reasonable enough distance alone if my host family approves, I don’t care too much for where I’m staying because I also want to get started on completing the 92 over 2 years in the UK, checking it out Southend does seem a bit nice but I wouldn’t know anyone there tbh

Are you also annoyed you never got to fly on a concorde? Do you have an aunt in the UK who would let you keep some clothes at her house?

Carlisle is nicer than people pretend. Cumbria in general is both beautiful and cheap. It has its share of underfunded areas that I could rant about for ages, and being North of Manchester Londoners like to forget we exist, but Cumbria is an incredibly friendly place.

Out of all those, I’d recommend Norwich, Lincoln and Carlisle. I’d definitely shortlist Norwich and Lincoln for the top two.
They’re the nicer ones, if I’m honest. But I’ve found people in Carlisle to be super friendly so I like it there too.
Jemima_puddledook678@reddit
As somebody who grew up in Cumbria but has since spent a lot of time further South, it’s genuinely insane how much less kind and friendly people are as close as Manchester, which isn’t even that far South.

Quite surprised you’ve left Daventry off the list. It’s not known as the jewel of south west Northants for nothing.

Don’t forget Barlow and Luton.
SqueegieSqueeger@reddit
You'd never survive Mansfield
Orange_Codex@reddit
What are you looking for in a town?
From several of your picks (e.g. Grimsby, Slough), it seems you're into pain and suffering.
Leapimus_Maximus@reddit
Yep, Blackburn is a certified shithole.

I’d say Norwich and Lincoln should top your list. Lancaster is a great university and a lovely town, and Lancaster City (aka the Dolly Blues) are non league but have good support. Also, it’s less than two miles to Morecambe FC and about 22 miles to Preston North End, but Lancaster is a nicer place to live than Morecambe or Preston. Sheffield is great too. It’s a city that feels more like a town. It’s friendly and you’ve got your pick of Wednesday or United.

What country are you from? The reason I am asking is that I want to avoid it as the level of education there means you are all fucking idiots.
CrazyPlatypusLady@reddit
Basildon. I know someone who can give you a tour of the public artworks across the town, and genuine historical sites just outside the town centre.

You forgot Luton and Doncaster

You're too obviously trolling. Try harder.

The Isle of Man is where it’s at. In Douglas we have Wimpy, a Tizer factory and a squirrel sanctuary.

Not in the UK, though. Jammy tax exiles.

Harrogate
