I am a Muslim and have a young family, is Milton Keynes a nice place for a Muslim to raise a family?

Concrete jungle… if your into that kind of thing
iheartrugbyleague@reddit
One of the greenest cities in the UK.

i think you should be a fine, however a while back when the edl riots and the right wing started to gain traction i did see a few england flags being put up in the brooklands area but most have been taken down now
Electrical-Role4006@reddit
Having an England flag up doens't equal being right wing or racist
Firm-Pace-3957@reddit
i agree it’s the timing the flags went up not the flag

I’d advise moving to an estate that isn’t predominantly Muslim as the point of joining the uk is to join the culture. That’s not say no turn your back it’s saying integrate and love and be loved by the community.

Why do you assume I wasn’t born here
al3x696@reddit
I didn’t I was saying mix with none Muslims the same as Muslims. Why did you assume I meant otherwise?
Even-Wasabi7183@reddit (OP)
You said joining the U.K.
al3x696@reddit
Yeah and that is meant for anyone as there are parts of the UK where they have their own communities not just Muslims but Jewish and Christian etc.
We love everyone here (well most of us do) but my comment meant more along the lines of we all live together well if we don’t segregate.

It's a great place to raise a family (I'm Catholic, not Muslim). If your kids are school age and you are sending them to a state school, you really should look more into the what their catchment school would be. Some of the schools here are pretty awful (and some are great!). You would want to try to live somewhere that has good schools.

MK secondary schools now tend to be non white majority- so it gives you an idea of the demographic shift that occurred over the last 15 years.

Very! I live in Wolverton and we have a substantial Muslim community.
SerendipitousCrow@reddit
Bletchley does as well.
Though I'd rather live in Wolverton than Bletchley
british_heretic@reddit
Seconded. I’m not a Muslim but live in Wolverton. It’s a great town to live and bring up a family in.

Just wanted to say mk is great for kids, regardless of faith. Have a look on here for other threads about the nicest estates. There's a lot of different cultures and religions and faiths represented, and buildings that serve them.
Off topic now, but I believe living is best when everyone mixes with everyone from a housing point of view (particularly good for kids), and I don't know if there are what are considered as Muslim areas in MK, but I think when housing areas physically divide like that over time, it can have some downsides. Communities can thrive without physically living in a single area.

Grew up catholic and had many lovely muslim friends and communities around, and attended my wedding last year - MK is a lovely place for everyone

I believe Milton Keynes is honestly one of the most harmonised multicultural cities in the country. My son goes to a (very good) multiethnic school and where I live I see lots of kids in particular from different backgrounds hanging around with each other and it’s quite lovely to see.
TheHootOwlofDeath@reddit
Yes, it's a really multicultural city. I have several Muslim friends who live there and they love it.
cankennykencan@reddit
Yes it's very multi cultural. Im British and I've had no problems
istillfeelth3same@reddit
yes!! and i can say this as someone who is muslim and was born and raised in mk! we have a very multicultural muslim community here and there’s lots of halal food available.

MK is very multicultural. Results could vary depending on what estate you’re moving to though
Golhec@reddit
Yes! It’s a very multicultural city, we’re of Hindu descent and have no issues. There’s big communities for Muslims as well.
