Gen X grandparents are just built different.

Have you all noticed that (most) of us are nothing like our parents were as grandparents?
For instance, I'm a pierced, tattoo'd, f-bomb dropping, will definitely throat punch anyone who upsets my grandbaby, 52 yr old nana. I freely admit to letting my grandson get away with stuff his mom would've been in trouble for. In fact, spoiling him and spending time with him is legit the best part of my life. I also see him a lot and my house looks like a toddler lives here. His parents don't need to pack a diaper bag or bring anything when they come over with grandbaby, everything they could possibly need or want is already here. It's been like this since the day he was born and will remain that way as long as I'm living.
Not trying to brag but I don't look or act my age at all. In fact, none of my friends do either. When I see pics of people who were in their later 40's and early 50's from the 80's? I literally cringe, they look so much older than we do!
Do the rest of you Gen X grandparents find the same thing? We're just built different than previous generations of grandparents?

Poor Behavior - No antagonism, trolling, rage farming, flame wars, juvenility, or any other overly cantankerous commentary and/or behaviour will be tolerated.

Gosh. Now I'm curious what the original question/joke was.
JoeyTribianisGoyter@reddit
It was a post praising how Gen X grandparents are the best because they drank out of garden hoses as kids and will not hesitate to throat punch babies.
Tired_o_Mods_BS@reddit
I mean, that's fair. I've had to throat punch some babies in my time for sure. 🤣 I take it people reacted poorly?

The gist: She’s not a regular granmom she’s a cool grandmom!

I can picture the OP actually flouncing on out of here!

I remember going to my 20 year HS reunion and talking to a classmate who was a grandmother.
My child wasn't yet three years old.
CeeTheWorld2023@reddit
Shooooo. 1/2 my graduating class was pregnant. 1985. I managed, by being an anti social outsider nerd with anger issues, to dodge that bullet.
Individual_Note_8756@reddit
At my 20th reunion I had a newborn and a 2 year old.
CommonCut4@reddit
I knew a woman that had a baby and grandchild who were the same age. She was 28.
sunqueen73@reddit
Damn. I had a friend who had her first at 19. Then her mom (the grandmother) got pregnant 2 years later at 47. So the grand niece was years older than the grand aunt!
Throw8976m@reddit
I have a 20 year old and due with another next week, I'm 46. I could, in theory, be a grandmom and also pregnant!
VilleIn97@reddit
To make that math math is frightening.
thisisstupid-@reddit
There was a girl six months pregnant in my eighth grade sex ed class. She kept it, dropped out of school.

Bye Felicia.

My dad's parents were born in the 19th century. The change they saw and lived! I never met my paternal grandpa, died six years I was born. Paternal grandma was already pretty elderly by the time I came along. She loved me but there was no energy to do anything with me. Maternal grandparents were much younger. Did a lot with me as I was their first grandchild.
All of them very traditional, definitely not me.
Cynicastic@reddit
I have a 7 year old granddaughter. But we adopted her mother when she was sixteen (daughter is 34 now). I hadn't even met my first wife when our daughter was born, lol.
Tom_Michel@reddit
Deleting and running away? Doesn't sound like GenX to me.
Glad_Bunch_3473@reddit
Must be a xennial…..
Aynitsa@reddit
The spectrum of being a “grandparent” is vast ranges from fully engaged and celebrating to “oh hell no.”
Dear_Mess_1617@reddit
Yea we are the hell no grandparents. Don’t leave your babies here. Lol
Frosty-Survey-8264@reddit
Hop 'em up on sugar and send them home...

As someone who never wanted kids, the thought of being a grandma is even more bizarre to me, especially at 52.
MovingTarget-@reddit
I hear this. I'm pretty sick of hearing my sister-in-law talk about her grand kids as well. I know my brother would love to retire to another state but there's no way in hell she'll ever move because she wants to be super grandmama bear like OP
Ajstross@reddit
Ugh. I know the type. Does she refer to them as her “grands”?
Mis73@reddit (OP)
It's still bizarre to me lol. I love being a grandparent but it's also very surreal.
scarlettskadi@reddit
Well, I’m not cosy old lady - but I’ll teach the little one how to be a good human like I did his daddy.
He has a nana to spoil him.
I as Amma will teach him a thing or two that have nothing to do with material possessions.
spacetstacy@reddit
I have an 8 year old granddaughter. I keep waiting for the urge to but a housecoat like my Nana. LOL I do have a frilly apron for baking, though.
thenoid42@reddit
I always said I didn't want kids when I was young, then I found out i medically couldn't and it was a massive relief.
Tensionheadache11@reddit
I made my mom a grandma at 38, Ill be 50 this year and I thanked my boys the other day for not making me a grandma yet, lots of my friends got at least 1 grand baby - I just got fur grand babies
JoeyTribianisGoyter@reddit
Omg
Another We’re built different self congratulatory Gen X post.
Yawn
Mis73@reddit (OP)
LOL not self congratulatory at all. Just something my husband and I discuss and thought it was interesting.
I'm sorry, did I accidentally strike a nerve and hit your inferiority complex?
JoeyTribianisGoyter@reddit
I bet you also drank from the garden hose, amirite?
freakdageek@reddit
With a “throat-punch,” no less. Lotta bingo squares hit.
zardozLateFee@reddit
Yeah but kids these days aren't like this. They'll find you as annoying as you found Boomers.
yarn_slinger@reddit
I was so relieved when my only child said she didn’t want kids. We have too many mental health issues they could inherit, not to mention cancer and genetic disorders. Our line can die out with her and that’s fine.
pocketdare@reddit
Never had kids ... so I definitely look younger than all y'all :)
