The FBI says hollowpoints fail to expand at least 1/4 of the time. According to the 2016-17 Joint Agency Ballistics Test For Defensive Handgun Ammunition, Xtreme Defender makes the largest and most reliable wound channel. the 9mm Xtreme Defender (not even the +P or +P+) easily outperformed the best 10mm hollowpoint.
That's true. I seen that happen during ballistic testing but here's the thing my friend, as somebody who worked on the ambulance for years, typically doesn't matter.
Honestly doesn't. When you seen enough gun shots, they are all bad. Nobody laughs those off.
Agreed, and shot placement makes the most difference. But ammo selection is something we have control of in advance, so why not use the best ammo you can? You can still do most of your training with cheap ball ammo.
You can never go wrong with HST, Ranger T, or Critical Duty. I myself carry HST 124gr +P in my 9mm and 99gr HST in my 380ACP. I also run Ranger T in my 45 ACP and 40 S&W. Now FBI agents carry Critical Duty. When I used to be a cop we carried 230gr +P Ranger T.
Still wasting your money. Crit duty is widely available in 50 round boxes if you really like Hornady, but in a world with HST and Gold Dot, why would you go for Hornady?
Tell the family to start crimping ALL the defensive ammo and reinvest in QC. They charge way too much for their products to be selling any uncrimped handgun ammo, and their 5.56 shouldnt be blowing up people's guns.
Any 9mm fork a reputable company will work. Hornady critical defense, speer gold dot, federal hst. The big problem will be if the ammo actually runs in your gun reliably, for federal hst, get those law enforcement boxes that have 50 rounds, way cheaper per round compared to the personal defense labeled ammo that come in 20 or 25 round boxes.
I personally don't believe in hyper hollow points. I buy federal white box 147 gr hollows, they are cheap enough where I can actually practice with them and they perform well, even considering their more basic design.

Which means 75% of the time they expand. That’s better than using ball ammo that expands 0% of the time.

Take a look at the Joint Agency Ballistics Study and compare wound channel volumes:

You can also look up meat target tests on YouTube.
I'll put my trust in a round that makes bigger wounds without the need to expand.

I definitely agree I just don't think people need to stress over as much as they do.

Yep this is the one I'm carrying

HST 124 tests well, as does Critical Duty and Gold Dot. It’s up to your gun which it likes best.
Also, never buy the “personal” 20 round boxes. There are a million places online to get the LE 50 rd boxes at a far cheaper cpr.

I like Hornady simply because you get 25 a box instead of 20 lol

I like them because they are family owned and local.

HST is the answer. I like the 147s but whatever floats your boat.
