Thirty years and held multiple positions in the industry. Started as a career ending up more like servitude. lol 😂
Fluxus4@reddit
Because AI hasn't yet dominated the industry.
East_Indication_7816@reddit
If you have been driving a 2022 or newer truck with adaptive cruise control, that is level 1 to 2 self driving automation and everything you do gets sent in to the centralized server to train the AI for the full self driving which will come by 2027 onwards.
Playful-Excuse-272@reddit
I’ve helping what’s trying to replace me.
Fluxus4@reddit
I did say "yet."
tousen327@reddit
Got tired of working dead-end jobs. Now I have a dead-end career.
Wagger_Dagger@reddit
I was broke and now I’m slightly less broke
just_me1969@reddit
No choice
psclarke84@reddit
Because jake brakes at inappropriate times/locations make me smile.
SH_SWH@reddit
Got tired of dealing with crackhead parents, damn near no upward career mobility and a broken social welfare system as a social worker. Don’t miss it at all.
flergityberg@reddit
Burned out special-education/teacher-turned-Central/Transport-night-banana-driver here! I’m with you. 🫡
AndromedanPrince@reddit
i dont like people
brandmonkey@reddit
Because it's one of the only decent paying/decent work for felons
TruckerDono@reddit
Highest paying job I can currently get... Working on pilot
CakewalkNOLA@reddit
It's a family tradition.
CashWideCock@reddit
Same. I’m second generation, my sons are 3rd generation. Plus my brother and his sons, several uncles and even my wife.
CashWideCock@reddit
For the glory!
JaxAustin@reddit
So I can work 6 months and then travel 12.
Megmiha@reddit
This is the way to do it.
East_Indication_7816@reddit
HOw you do it when you make only $1k/week?
BobcatBob26@reddit
I do linehaul and make 2,500 a week. All our drivers are over 1,500 at least
East_Indication_7816@reddit
How you get into that? What level of experience?
External_Result_8560@reddit
1099 my guy
BobcatBob26@reddit
I depends on what the terminal needs. You can be hired with no experience, or they might make you go through the dock program.
JaxAustin@reddit
I make more than that. I can save about 80% of what I make by living in the truck
VitoVino@reddit
Guessing you are super heavy haul?
FloppyTacoflaps@reddit
Stupid
FrYoungtrad@reddit
Useless college degrees.
Silent_Insomnia_@reddit
I’m trying to achieve a doctorate in patience and was told this was the fastest way.
username_fantasies@reddit
I was curious about driving trucks and the transportation industry in general.
Then it turned out it's been hard to get a decent job elsewhere for at least 3 years now. Here I am. Glad I got my CDL.
Acrobatic-Bid-3559@reddit
Needed a job that I can take my service animal along
Ok_Application_2292@reddit
And he is why. Just why did I pick this human to codeive with. I could do this. … squirrel …. Yea better let him drive why I watch for. … squirrel. Did you see that stupid squirrel with a nut just looking at us while we drive by. If I didn’t have to drive. Squirrel…..
Acrobatic-Bid-3559@reddit
Exactly
icy_penguins@reddit
It used to mean something.

Money
grow_trucking@reddit (OP)
Money + freedom
Cardinal_350@reddit
Freedom? Haha. 25 years in and it's gone from being a pretty free job to big brother slavery
homucifer666@reddit
LoL, who the fuck in trucking is free?
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Those weirdos snatching up the 1099 job paying $0.50 a mile, 😬. That's free, fr.
Excellent_Pay_8782@reddit
The rewards program at truck stops. Free refills every now and then. That and the ripe smell of piss in the parking lots.
Hell goddamn yeah boy
tomphobia89@reddit
Wife believed in me
Defiant_Network_3069@reddit
I enjoy driving on the open road.
Wide-Engineering-396@reddit

East_Indication_7816@reddit

I'm well compensated for my time.
I that order.
VitoVino@reddit
I don't like being around other people.
RaphealWannabe@reddit
I need a job
East_Indication_7816@reddit
AI took my job . Soon AI in human and truck form will take my trucking job as well .
Fluxus4@reddit
Ditto.
Wasabi-Kungpow@reddit
Couldn't stand working warehouse jobs and seeing the same people, same stupid jokes, same building. Always wanted my license so I just up and quit and got it.
On a side note most of these comments are talking about money and at the same time they bitch they dont make any more then a burger flipper at McDs.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Psh, make triple what I did working as a cook. I mean, not adjusted for inflation anyway.
bluehorsehead@reddit
I don't like working with others
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
Neither do morticians. I have the same problem, it was on my list.
grow_trucking@reddit (OP)
Trucking is perfect for you 🌝
Ok_Measurement_107@reddit
I found a way to make a decent living while sitting on my fat ass.
grow_trucking@reddit (OP)
But sometimes it is frustrating, loneliness and homesickness
Ok_Measurement_107@reddit
What in life can not get frustrating at times? Get a local job and go home every night. Some people aren't built for otr and that's ok.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
skilled labor trap 🤷.
No idea what else I could do for similar earnings. AI taking over programming, it seems.

Exciting-Car-3516@reddit
The variety of situations and the freedom. It’s a lifestyle not a job or career
curlyfat@reddit
Was really sick of managing other people, and this job popped up at slightly more pay than I was making, and 5 miles from my house. I love the solitude.
PlsCheckThisBush@reddit
Needed more money and better insurance for my family. At my last job raises were less than inflation and insurance deductibles kept growing with no other options or end in sight.
