I was inspired by the 'Worst Places you have ever been on holiday thread' https://www.reddit.com/r/AskUK/comments/1say098/whats_the_worst_place_you_have_ever_been_on/
What is the best place you have ever bene on holiday? Any honeymoon recommendations for Summer 2026 ?
DarthScabies@reddit
Kos. Small island but lots to do. Can be peaceful if you want or plenty of shenanigans if you go to a bigger town.
Tattyhead4@reddit
We had our honeymoon in Nidri. It’s beautiful.
ProfPMJ-123@reddit
I doubt I’ll ever go anywhere better than Costa Rica.
A simply magical place.
Nomad_332@reddit
Tanzania! Friendly and fairly safe. You can go to Zanzibar and also visit the north to check out some wildlife
Front_Number6115@reddit
I’d avoid Mauritius and the Maldives or similar. Personally, whilst it was paradise, the price was insane. You can get 95% of the same holiday for 50% of the price.
Alwaysrunning1234@reddit
Where can you get the same holiday as Maldives for 50% of the price?
Front_Number6115@reddit
The same holiday isn’t what I said.
Alwaysrunning1234@reddit
But you did tho. You said “95% of the same holiday”. Ok so where can you get 95% of the same holiday as the Maldives for 50% of the price?
Front_Number6115@reddit
Langkawi springs to mind first, but make it 20% of the cost.
Alwaysrunning1234@reddit
Thank you. Sorry I wasn’t trying to be awkward or anything, I genuinely wanted to know haha. I’m always looking for new travel destinations and sure if it’s cheaper, even better haha.
Front_Number6115@reddit
Nah my bad, I was a dick also. Maldives is a tough one as it really is ‘out there’ I guess.
I just think if you’re spending money but don’t have ‘fuck you’ money, there’s better options out there.

Thailand, easily.
Perfect mix for a honeymoon - beaches, islands, amazing food, cheap massages, and you can do luxury without spending a fortune. Phuket/Krabi for views, a quieter island like Koh Lanta to relax, then Bangkok for food and nightlife.
Only downside: it ruins other holidays 😅

Austria is surprisingly romantic on top of being absolutely stunning.

Namibia. Did a self drive safari (luxury lodges) at the end of last year and it was indescribably incredible
poodlesquish@reddit
We spent a week in South Africa (4 days in Cape Town and 3 days on Safari in the eastern cape) then a week on the beach in Mauritius. It was the perfect mix of activity (safari is the best thing I have ever done in my life and I don’t think any holiday can ever beat that) and chill time. Cost a bloody fortune, mind, so definitely a once in a lifetime trip!
Fatal-Eggs2024@reddit
It really depends on what people like. I loved scuba diving waaaay out on Tubbatah Reef in the Philippines, backpacking in the high Sierra Nevada mountains in California, and safari in Sr Lanka. I have been bored on fine resort properties. I like exploring and learning, but that’s not always what people enjoy on vacation.
Maybe a good mix of both would be Bali, which is lovely both for exploration and for memorable charming resort activities — and great food too!
Initial_Tax7778@reddit (OP)
Bali is currently in our top 3 pics, for honeymoon where would you recommend in Bali ? We like exploring but also a nice beach/food sort of place.
Fatal-Eggs2024@reddit
I enjoyed a few days in Candidasa, I stayed at Lotus Bungalows — good place to chill and get into time zone, quiet ocean front. I found it pretty easy to get around the island. I tend to avoid all the instagram spots but still thought it was worth visiting Tirta Gangga and one of the traditional villages like Tengannan. Again, everyone is different, and I’m aware that my deep interest in culture, exploration, history, and nature is not shared by everyone. I did not go to any of the spa, yoga, or instagrammy places.
speccybob@reddit
Do a two or three centre in Bali.
Ubud for a few nights for the cultural side, One of the Gili Islands for some snorkeling and the Nusa Dua/Sanur/Seminyak for a beach break.
VolcanicBear@reddit
The Maldives was good enough for us to go back.
Try and go somewhere with a house reef if you do, makes quite a difference.
ShinyHeadedCook@reddit
Budapest by far the best city
MurderedByTheBurbs@reddit
We spent a week on a ‘houseboat’ in Coron, Philippines. One restaurant you can order feel or kayak to, and water & views for days, felt very disconnected from the modern world in the best kind of way.
Initial_Tax7778@reddit (OP)
That looks amazing!
YragNitram1956@reddit
Jaspar in Canada.
Initial_Tax7778@reddit (OP)
Wow, that looks pretty cool !
RodentsRevenge4@reddit
Rome and Sorrento. Oh the food, Oh the history!
Pikmanpikman@reddit
Lombok, it was totally stunning! Although I proposed a disc after 36 hrs and then spent them next 10 days in hospital 🙈
Dazz316@reddit
Fiji.
They have a phrase their called "Fiji Time". Basically people do shit when they sorta feel like it. Being late doesn't matter, just take your time and wait. At first it was annoying, buses were late, the guy to do your scuba diving was late. Where the fuck is everybody?
But then when you get into it, oh man it's so nice. Take your time, there's no rush. Enjoy the sub. If you're late? No worries. If they're late? No worries. You're on holiday and they're just enjoying the day and taking their time. It's so incredibly freeing. When you'd ask people how long the bus would be, they'd shrug and say Fiji time. Not like we do when we moan the busses are late but 6 minutes. They genuinely didn't give a fuck. They werne't worried about being late, their bosses weren't worried about them being late for work, the bus driver wasn't worries about being late.
It's an entire weight off your shoulders. Got a scuba thing booked for 3? Aim for 3, if you're early, enjoy the sunn if they're early? enjoy the sun. If you're late, don't worry about it, enjoy the sun and walk there in your own time. If you and them are there but other holidaymakers are late? No worries, enjoy the sun.

That sound pretty chill!
Dazz316@reddit
It was. They have the usual idyllic white sandy beaches like you see in the movies. Gorgeous aquatic colourful life to swim in where the fish just swim past you like you belong there, beautiful weather, great local fresh fish to eat and the people were just really friendly in general.
Ok_Bumblebee_2196@reddit
Amalfi Coast for rural. Florence for urban. Both are so beautiful that you can't quite believe they're real.
Fine_Cress_649@reddit
Really for a honeymoon I don't think you can beat the Italian lakes. That may make me basic but idc
Successful_Buy3825@reddit
I wouldn’t consider that to be basic - there’s a reason they’ve been a popular destination for decades.
Fine_Cress_649@reddit
For millennia I think
DameKumquat@reddit
That's where I had my honeymoon! The bulk of it, few nights in Verona first (dead cheap when the opera isn't on, and you can sit in the amphitheatre and watch the tech rehearsals for free with a picnic), and then some time in Venice for the sights, after 10 days of chilling near the lake and wandering to other towns and little castles and deciding where to eat.
CrossCityLine@reddit
Depends what you’re into really but whenever this type of thread comes up I always argue that Turkey is the best all round holiday destination.
No matter what you’re into you can find it there. Romantic couples time away, family holiday at the beach, lads break, city breaks, adventure holidays, sports trips, even skiing. All available in Turkey.
Bonus points that the food is excellent, it’s comparatively cheap and the people are excellent.
The only other place that even comes that close on the amount of possible trip types is Southern California IMO.
BeKind321@reddit
Turkey also came up in the worst destination list too. It’s a big country and I guess people will need to make up their own mind.
Theratchetnclank@reddit
Lake Garda in Italy is beautiful with great food. Finland is really pretty if you like being outdoors. Norway has the fjords which are majestic.

Depends how long you have but for our honeymoon we hired a campervan and travelled the East Coast of Australia. It was the best holiday we have had to date and we can't wait to go back.
Ready_Ad4262@reddit
I have been to Venice and it’s awesome if your budget allows
Cassadega_@reddit
I went to Essaouira in Morocco last year. It was incredible. Very relaxed compared to the larger towns & cities. Beautiful coastal towns near by too.
We stayed at Le Jardin des Douars - couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
Glass_Minute4753@reddit
Brazil is incredible, such an adventure!
messedup73@reddit
We got married in 2019 but couldn't afford a honeymoon then after Covid we decided to do trip to catch up with family and have some time to ourselves as well.We spent a few days in Cardiff then went to Skegness and my mum is buried near there ,then visited my husbands relatives in Troon then a few days in the Highlands which was amazing then went to Leeds and Shrewsbury to visit more family. We did all the touristy things Cardiff Castle, arcades in Skeggy,a walk on the beach in Troon,Ben Nevis ,Loch Ness,Glencoe, and the Iron Bridge.Holidays are what you make it and that was my favourite.
Alternative_Head_416@reddit
For our honeymoon we did a tour of Italy, starting in Venice and ending in Sorento. Perfect mix of relaxation and culture, with excellent food and wine as well! And not too expensive, which was important after the wedding expenses. Plus it’s so romantic.
harley3987@reddit
We went to the Algarve, Portugal for a short honeymoon break in September and it was perfect
Stayed at W Algarve which is a lovely hotel right next to some quiet beaches with activities like kayaking and so many nice restaurants around.
Definitely more a chill holiday than a sightseeing one but it was just perfect for a honeymoon
Successful_Buy3825@reddit
Depends on what kind of vibe you’re looking for in terms of beach vs city, but personally I loved Nice and the surrounding towns. The food was phenomenal and the vineyards are well worth a visit.
Initial_Tax7778@reddit (OP)
We've been to Nice twice already in the last two years and do love it!
Harrry-Otter@reddit
I really like Italy. Lots to see and incredible food and wine.

Can’t beat Costa Del Skeg
OkGrapefruit7174@reddit
Slovenia is absolutely gorgeous, really interesting history (very new country), Ljubljana is lovely and has great people, Lake bled is stunning and rafting there was a lot of fun.
Lenniel@reddit
My honeymoon Olhuveli in the Maldives.
Last summer we went to Akumal Bay Beach & Spa Resort, I would go back there tomorrow.
They’re my top 2, the rest of my holidays are more geared towards families.
Hubble_bubble753@reddit
Kenya for Safari and then Zanzibar for beaches. Stonetown is also stunning, I wish I'd spent more time there. I'll never get over how many stars you could see standing on the beach.
