Sten owner here. Yeah loading those magazines suck, I'd only load one too
Katzchen12@reddit
Single feed double stack will never not hurt like hell to load. Well unless you buy a loader assist but still.
LobsterManCommander@reddit
That's the most unhinged why of firing a sten.
I_2_Cast_Lead_45acp@reddit
Actually owning a Grease and trying to load a magazine, I understand the pain just bigger .
GamesFranco2819@reddit
Have you tried one of the mag loading tools for it? The Sten gun mag loader works pretty well, as does the one the Germans issued with the 38/40. I dont have any hands on time with an M3 though so no idea if its worth a damn to use.
I_2_Cast_Lead_45acp@reddit
I do have one my Grease Gun plus the stock had a built in one too if your really desperate
GamesFranco2819@reddit
Huh, didnt know that. My thumbs hurt just thinking about it haha
I_2_Cast_Lead_45acp@reddit
The stock works just sorta awkward.
ShotgunEd1897@reddit
If only it used Thompson mags, millions of thumbs would've been spared the sheet metal Hell, that is reloading a single-feed.
I_2_Cast_Lead_45acp@reddit
You probably need a milled receiver for that. I double they could get those shells aligned well enough for it to work reliability verse a general "hole."
ShotgunEd1897@reddit
I imagine that the barrel could have a throat that allowed for proper feeding.

I have a STEN mag loader with the brass scissor-like finger ring. An Australian version? I know there's a few types & patterns out there.
It's a reproduction I bought from IMA, I'll have to look it up, but I think it might actually be an "Issued reproduction," so many nations used the STEN, or even other SMG's used STEN mags. Because it was easy, and there were enormous surplus piles of the magazines made.
I don't even own a STEN or copy/clone, but I have a pile of STEN magazines for my rewelded semi-auto Sterling rebuild. I have six original Sterling magazines, but they were expensive and hard to find even 15 years ago
(Thanks a lot, you Star Wars Prop & Cosplay people...)
The double-column single-feed design definitely starts to hurt after just 10 rounds.
dagodog69@reddit
It makes me think of Mr Inbetweener where he lights up the car with The Sten.

Pratchett.
Few_Carpenter_9185@reddit
That was always a bit weird, where the writers went out of their way to call it a "Patchett." I guess they tried taking the development history of the Sterling, and saying that to make the SMG seem even more... "Old-school and special," I guess.
There really aren't any production Patchett SMGs out in the world for someone to have, just prototypes and a handful of trial ones before it was finalized, and L2A1 Sterling production took over in the early 1950s. Any "actual Patchetts," there was only a handful made, and they're either all destroyed or in UK pattern rooms & museums.
KEFREN-@reddit
does it fire when he charge and release the bullet in the chamber?
dr_xenon@reddit
It’s an open bolt gun. If he was holding the trigger it would fire as soon as it chambered. If he had more rounds it would cycle and do it again.
dr_xenon@reddit
Full auto single shot
SongFeisty8759@reddit
He has my sympathy.
Internet_Troll14@reddit
Yes, my precious little round. Single shot here we go.
GamesFranco2819@reddit
All of that for just 1 round is a bit of a let down haha
goodeyemighty@reddit
I see why it’s forgotten.
