Wulkas_Code@reddit
I think this is Ukraine or Russia.
Jonny_Dallas@reddit
Really? Maybe Croatia? Why not?
Wishart2016@reddit
Croatia uses Latin writing.
Haunting_Resource_74@reddit
Not Ukraine, writing on the road on russian or maybe bulgarian
Township_Roller@reddit
Not Bulgarian
Wulkas_Code@reddit
Then its Russia
Select-You7784@reddit
The shop signs are definitely not in russian. I’d say the words look like AI generated shit.
vbd71@reddit
not Bulgarian.

This photo was taken in Russia. The city is Tyumen. The exact address of the building in the photo is: 50k1 Ulitsa 30 Let Pobedy, Tyumen, 625016. The photo is old; I think it dates back to around 2014–2016. Street View of this location (more recent, of course): https://maps.app.goo.gl/KWz3d1Qs8L8r5nAQ7 or https://yandex.com/maps/-/CPfnbGzb

Geogessing is strong with you!
Ok-Patience6865@reddit
Russia))) Random our city/town, there's a lot of that here. A nervous breakdown for a perfectionist.
Commercial-Border-60@reddit
its ai
Fun-Quail-7959@reddit (OP)
no
bezb19@reddit
ai generated crap
morbihann@reddit
The writting is either in Ukrainian or Russian, so either one.
Township_Roller@reddit
But everything else looks miserably russian, so I would guess it's there
Jonny_Dallas@reddit
Hahaha! Russian only. And never in Ukraine
dragecs@reddit
This is not the Balkans here we have a belief that you should not cross the street diagonally because it brings bad luck.
CataphractBunny@reddit
Bulgaria?
Smilodon24@reddit
These crosswalk signs are used in Ukraine, Russia and Belaurs. So one of those
Jonny_Dallas@reddit
Not Ukraine
vbd71@reddit
Could be, but the inscription, although in Cyrillic, isn't in Bulgarian.
CataphractBunny@reddit
I saw the Cyrillic, didn't understand what it said which means it's not Serbian, and went with Bulgaria. Because we're on the AskBalkans sub. Neither Russia nor Belarus are Balkan states. OP is being a meanie. qq
vbd71@reddit
the word in question is written the same in Serbian and Bulgarian.
dwartbg9@reddit
Nope, we don't have the word "Дети" in Bulgarian
No-Championship-4632@reddit
I've heard some Roma people near Burgas use it. Not in plural though, in singular.
vbd71@reddit
I meant, it is one and the same in Serbian an Bulgarian, different from what is written on the picture.
CataphractBunny@reddit
What word are you referencing?
vbd71@reddit
Kids
CataphractBunny@reddit
The word says "DETI", while Serbian word would be "DECA". According to Bulgarian commenters here, it's "DECA" in Bulgarian as well.
vbd71@reddit
Yes, that's correct, but in Bulgarian it's written in Cyrillic.
CataphractBunny@reddit
I'm glad we sorted it out:
vbd71@reddit
Me too.
Mucupka@reddit
Nope, in Bulgarian is ДЕЦА, not ДЕТИ.
Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
No wonder Bulgaria is bottom of PISA rankings
Mucupka@reddit
You could really interpret the comment I was replying to in two ways, calm down.
Mysterious-Put1459@reddit
How so?
CataphractBunny@reddit
The same as Serbian, then. Guess that's the word he was talking about. I even zoomed in to check that store in the background and that just confirmed that it was Serbia.
Weak-Hunter4334@reddit
No word like this in Serbian, although it obviously means children.
Inevitable-Theory901@reddit
Road is too good, couldn’t be
tiga_94@reddit
this is 100% russia, russian made cars(gaz 3302, gaz 3307 seen in this pic), russian style road markings, etc.
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Not sure. Check shop signs.
tiga_94@reddit
looks like ai upscaling of low-res image to me
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Definitely, that is why letters looks like gibberish. Blue shop sign meaningless and red shop sigh something like автосль... which you can produce different things in different languages using Cyrillic alphabet.
arf_arf1@reddit
ДЕТИ on the road is clearly legible though.
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Дети mark you can see in everywhere where crillic is used except some local changes.
Jonny_Dallas@reddit
Deti is only in ruzzia
NizkiProfil@reddit
no, DETI is in Russian. In Serbia they usually put SKOLA instead of DECA.
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Kyrgyzstan?
arf_arf1@reddit
? The Ukrainian word for kids is Діти and the Bulgarian is Деца same as Serbian, but they would likely use latin script on the road as opposed to the Respublika. But the other signs and the yellow-white zebra implies post Soviet so can't be the Balkans.
Admittedly, it could be the stans. I don't know enough about roads there.
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Please before replying read carefully what I have written. "Local changes"!
arf_arf1@reddit
You call other languages "local changes"? :D It's simply not a word in these languages. It's not a "variation".
The one prominent time it was used in Mariupol was to communicate with Russian bombers.
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Ok. You are right.
tom_saw_year@reddit
Red one probably was Деликатесы until AI changed it.
tiga_94@reddit
Could be, I was thinking "автозапчасти"

Why so many pics lately of countries outside the Balkans and if it indeed is Russia then what does it have to do with the Balkans?
smol_muff@reddit
Portugal is Balkan and Russia's western enclave at the same time, so Russia is Balkan. It's so easy to comprehend, silly.
Hour-Promotion-2496@reddit
What do you mean? Isn't everything east of Germany Russia? /s
Stormrage44@reddit
I have thought about this many times.
NightZT@reddit
I think in the ex yugo countries you'd have Škola, Школа or Šola and two big X above and below instead of that. Looks very russian
Outside_Resist_8319@reddit
Because of the shop signs (can not clearly read) I think it might be Kyrgyzstan. One of the signs looks like автосараı (can not read exactly) which means auto palace
NastyFarang@reddit
exactly! it´s either that or the picture was shopped by AI who messed up the lettering
Zealousideal_Bear403@reddit
Russia, because you can see GAZelle (Russian light truck made in Gorkov Automobile Factory) and you can see ДЕТИ (children) written here
Many-Rooster-7905@reddit
Pretty sure deti is kids in russian
Environmentalister@reddit
Japonezia
b1ackm0re_@reddit
ДЕТИ
it's Russia
Orange_Wine@reddit
russia. Written in russian “kids”
Accomplished_Gur4466@reddit
I will say its russia
