He’s kind of known on the UK industry for being a gem to work with because he keeps the entire crew laughing and feeling good, and he’s an absolute pro.
I could be wrong but this whole scene looked and felt unscripted. I really do believe Jeremy was supposed to get in the car and the two would do laps. But when he didn’t fit, Hammond just went into make fun of him for being fat mode and this gem came out of it.
TG/ TGT has always been scriped scenarios unscripted reactions. They put themselves into potentially funny situations then play off whatever happens.
Sometimes it doesnt go well like James's horse in Burma or all of Argentina. But other are like this or Jeremy being immersed in Wax by Madame Tussandes or the wax works visit in the same special.
I once saw an interview with a Czech automotive journalist who was a member of the production team for that episode.
If I remember correctly, according to the script, Jeremy wasn’t even supposed to get into the car. He just wanted to try it out, and everything that happened was completely unscripted. Including the fact that he actually got stuck in there.
