potential thing to look out for near love field, guy blocking the road with objects

i think i nearly got carjacked or something tonight on shorecrest road between love field and bachman lake
there was a guy who had blocked both lanes with a big branch and what i think was his stuff in a couple trash bags.
it was right around the turn where it gets very dark, i didnt see him at first and slowed down to drive around the branch and he suddenly approached my car waving his hands and yelling "help me"
i sped away. it doesnt really matter to me if it was really a guy in distress, you dont get help by blocking the road with objects and your body and approaching a car at 2 am.
the Whataburger was like 500 feet away, and its open 24/7, if he genuinely needed help he could have gone there right?

the thing is there was no car in sight. just a guy and shit all over the road. so i am guessing this is a troll post
Seargant-Shitpost@reddit
That circumstance/timeframe/location I think 99% of people aren't stopping.
No car changes everything. Without a car I'm gonna call "tweaker madness" on that incident.

no yeah absolutely, it was 2 in the morning in a dark corner of the road
Seargant-Shitpost@reddit
Corner of the road is terrible planning or an actual ambush too. Like wtf.
I used to drive a wrecker and actually take lanes when necessary with flares and cones. You can't take a lane in any corner or just after one - in any circumstance

As someone who used to work in that area and have been in that area both late at night and during day, that part of love field has issues so I wouldn’t be shocked and never go there now. I mean, someone randomly shot at the cockpit of a Southwest plane for no reason off Shore Crest. Basically everywhere around love field other than MAYBE Lemmon Ave is a mess.
smellthing@reddit
having moved to that area from east side of san antonio, i will say it is so much better.
Suspicious_Prior_808@reddit
Yeah its not as bad as it used to be but with recent funding cuts to mental health care in the area I expect it to get worse not better
SipoteQuixote@reddit
Lemmon aint great either lol
Suspicious_Prior_808@reddit
Yo thanks for sharing. I think I saw him setting up last night off lemon and inwood. He was in the middle of the lanes setting up something
durtyprofessor@reddit
That really sucks. I love taking Shorecrest Drive as the scenic route to the shopping areas over there. It’s usually so peaceful compared to going around love field the other way.
Severe-Ad-805@reddit
you did the right thing, i hope he got the help he needed even though he definitely wasn’t going about it in the best way.
IShouldLiveInPepper@reddit
You should call the police
OneLastSmile@reddit (OP)
i did don't worry
nsfwfrient@reddit
And im sure they literally did nothing
OneLastSmile@reddit (OP)
pretty much. they just said "okay thanks for letting us know"
CatteNappe@reddit
Stuff in a couple trash bags signals "homeless", and also suggests someone who didn't really have a viable "plan". Still, you did the smart thing because there's not much practical help you can offer in that location at that time.
OneLastSmile@reddit (OP)
Yeah agreed
He was def homeless but if he genuinely needed help, the Whataburger wasn't more than a couple hundred feet away. Blocking the road with his stuff and massive branches in a very dark area is shady as hell, no point risking becoming a statistic.
highspeedlowswag@reddit
Yeah dude that’s a literally ambush lol
Aggravating_Brief337@reddit
That’s why I have my 2a with me
Ill_Primary_7203@reddit
You should report to the police, not Reddit
