Having a huge, beat up cd binder in the backseat

Perhaps I’m overestimating how frequently this happened. Maybe older folks did it too but I figure the older folks didn’t care enough to lug around 208 cds and the next wave had iPods so
bedtimedoesntsuitme@reddit
I still have mine
stitchbitchstitch@reddit
And having it stolen out of your shitty Nissan Sentra and filled with irreplaceable dj mix cds from years worth of raves... and having all the windows busted out and stealing the terrible Nissan stock radio as a bonus.
freakflagflyer49@reddit
i have 3 and still use them
Affectionate-Goat218@reddit
Mine's on the sofa.
Jade-almost26@reddit
Mine was in my front seat! All I can think about now is that if it was in my current car’s front seat, that seatbelt alarm would go off constantly from the weight! 🤣🤣🤣 it was so much easier back then!
302-SWEETMAN@reddit
I STILL DO HAVE ONE IN MY CAR, always have & always WILL.
LONG LIVE PHYSICAL MEDIA…..!!!!!!!!
Just_call_me_Face@reddit
Mine got stolen out of my car 😑
xtrobot@reddit
Mine got lost when the car caught fire
Ok-Significance5979@reddit
same, 200 cds lost🔥🚒
Working-Youth1425@reddit
Same, along with the cd player with the detachable face 😭 I was more devastated about the cds, ofc
CookieNo310@reddit
Mine had wheels and a handle and held 600. Haha. Had a couple of these and a couple smaller ones too. Just gave them to my oldest son a few months back.
HeywoodJaBlessMe@reddit
SCREAM DRACULA, SCREAM!!! Peak 90s alt-rock right there. So sad I gave away my CD collection like a dummy
ClownMeat1@reddit
STILL DO!
PhilosopherDismal191@reddit
I had a car stereo that we shoplifted from Walmart that could play mp3s. I only needed the cd holder thing that went over the visor to hold my entire collection.
PIG20@reddit
My 2018 Mazda 3 didnt even come equipped with a CD player. I guess they didn't feel the need with AA/Car Play?
Which is fine. I can listen to anything I want using voice controls alone.
I thought I had lost my CD collection but just came across it the other day when I was grabbing something out of the attic in my garage. Don't even remember putting it up there.
sigm45@reddit
My 13 y/o daughter found mine the other day and I tried to explain the whole ripping CDs and mp3 music thing.
Dave0498@reddit
Back seat? How are you changing CD’s while driving if it’s back there!?!?
One-Earth9294@reddit
I am so glad we moved past CDs.
Silly_Sherbet5543@reddit
Mine is currently under my bed lol
TheMachoMustache@reddit
Still have it. Just on a shelf in my basement now.
stations-creation@reddit
I had a VHS copy of COPS: Bad Girls and this car full of girls were getting arrested for stealing one of these out of a guys car. It was considered a FELONY because it was worth over $500. What a time to be alive!!
mfhandy5319@reddit
This is the only music I feel like if truly own.
buhnyfoofoo@reddit
... Mine is still in the backseat...
Shanntuckymuffin@reddit
……I still do….
Lucky_Louch@reddit
I still do
grunkle_dan78@reddit
I had 3 of the accordioning hard case holders. never could tell which cd was where until I opened one and started searching. probably worse distracted driving than texting is today.
jessek@reddit
I still have one in my trunk. It’s all CD-Rs though.
TheREALBaldRider@reddit
I have 3 of those
Entangled-again@reddit
Yeah, mine is still in the backseat.
Illustrious-Highway8@reddit
I still have one! All these people talking in the past tense. Did y’all actually throw them all away?!
Important_Touch8581@reddit
I still have mine 🤫
_hi_plains_drifter_@reddit
Still have mine!!!
GrabsJoker@reddit
Until some douchebag breaks in and steals it.
Puzzleheaded_Race_90@reddit
I would say the last half of gen x had this, too, but I'm not arguing. We were kind of the sweet spot for this with Napster and burned cds, but we also moved on to ipods and zunes pretty quickly
stykface@reddit
I still had mine, and used mine, in my 2002 Ford truck. Unfortunately the truck was a Super Duty with a 7.3L diesel, which is very popular and it was stolen, WITH my original CD bag and CD's all the way back to the 90's.
This happened about three years ago, and I still kick myself in the ass for it. I was really safe with my truck, it was a very sudden and quick thing. I now have anti-theft on all my vehicles because of it.
Not the end of the world, but end of an era for sure.
Significant_Mode50@reddit
My bff was the driver of the group. I remember the day her car was broken into and the giant binder of cds was stolen. That was a dark time!
Weak_Radish966@reddit
Still have mine! Like 5 of them.
Emotional_Signal7883@reddit
I printed naked lady labels for CD-Rs on the HP inkjet.
Hobbit1955@reddit
I gave mine to my grandson. A ton of Grateful Dead, and other late 60's and 70's. He loves them!!
See_Emily_Play_13@reddit
I just found mine back in my closet last week! I had to explain to my little what they were and what burned cds were and why they were special! 🎶❤️
Nor-easter@reddit
I should have never ripped mine. I ripped them all to the computer and now the computer and the CDs are all gone.
No-Conversation-7840@reddit
Try 4
NorthBase710@reddit
I have 18 CD/DVD binders that can take 400 discs, and 17 of them are full and 1 is half full. They are great to have.
bitwarrior80@reddit
I still have mine in the car. I drive a 2014 minivan with a infotainment that has everything except Bluetooth. CD fill the gap.
sak3rt3ti@reddit
I had a couple of those in my backseat. Realizing that I’d spent at least a couple of thousand bucks on the cds after having them stolen is what turned me to sailing the high seas.
TransportationOk657@reddit
I still have two filled with CDs, and a few smaller ones.
HeCalledMeLucifer@reddit
Naaw the last time I saw one of these the guy was telling me he was in love with me and I could keep all his CDs in my house. Now that’s romantic. Because then he was driving around with no music.
Gimedecash@reddit
I have two of them but all dvds. I used to work for Roger’s video and had sticky fingers.
zsrh@reddit
This brings back memories! Still have mine. I remember when I got a car with a 6 disc in dash cd changer, that was a a game changer!
Admirable-Shallot-79@reddit
lol just sold my van yesterday and found a case of cd’s when I was cleaning out the trunk. I used to hate these when I did insurance claims a full case could be worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars
Juxta25@reddit
Load/Reload by Metallica are hugely underappreciated. Load is arguably the better of the two albums, but Reload definitely has its moments.
Load has nothing but bangers start to finish.
Iamnotyourhero@reddit (OP)
This is a bold take but I agree with you.
YousAPenguinLookinMF@reddit
Always had 2 smaller ones so they could be hidden under the seats. Learned the hard way…
MrThouu@reddit
One of the things that was a find for me back in 2006 was cheap CD wallets at Flea Markets.
No-Breakfast5667@reddit
...with all the artwork melted to the plastic sleeve
auspicious-moon@reddit
There was a time in my life when I could flip through one of these while smoking a cigarette and drive a stick shift all at the same time.
CactusJ@reddit
Are you me?
amccune@reddit
Mine was stolen. Still upset about it 26 years later.
I’ve started to recreate it all on vinyl and it’s stupid expensive.
Colonelclank90@reddit
Mine still sits under the passenger seat!
Moist_Rule9623@reddit
It was fun until somebody stole 96 CDs and my Discman out of the car. Really unfortunate that quite a few of them were local bands and not exactly something I could just order a new copy of from Amazon
cloudydays2021@reddit
Still have three of these bad boys !
Zeke_Smith@reddit
I’m glad I kept mine
Witchchildren@reddit
I still have one and tried to play some and they have disintegrated practically 😢
flittingly1@reddit
Perfect for my 6 disk player in the trunk.
JoshSidekick@reddit
Whatever money I saved on gas driving a 1989 Nissan Sentra, I spent on D batteries for the CD player I buckled in to the passenger seat because I drove a 1989 Nissan Sentra with no stereo.
mongrelnomad@reddit
And Minidisc on the dash.
patrad@reddit
I'd put ticket stubs in the with the sleeves. God I had so many good ones, Nirvana, Blind Melon, Metallica Black tour, MANY others . . .then someone stole my book at a party in college. To this day it's my biggest loss
ripleyart2323@reddit
Someone broke into my truck in high school and stole two of these...was literally thousands of dollars in music...I cried so much about it
the_kid1234@reddit
Size = status.
24? Must be your travel pack?
48? Nice
96? Wow, awesome!
200? King/queen!
Also, did you put the album cover in or no? My experience was about 20% did, 80% didn’t.
Finally, was yours alphabetically organized or just straight chaos?
dumplestilskin@reddit
I still have the same one from high school back there. I'm going to miss my cd player when I get a new car.
Rhediix@reddit
I had one of those...filled entirely with burned CD-R's. Different moods, different mixes, different bands, and just some straight-up swap copies of CD's I'd get from the library that I liked.
Jumpy_Giraffe_2613@reddit
idk man those mixtapes were like the original playlists, lowkey a whole vibe for sure
Cautious-Title6306@reddit
fr i feel that, my whole life was remixing burned cds for every vibe ever, so real
HadynGabriel@reddit
It wasn’t in the backseat. It was up front so I could do something just as bad as texting and driving… I could change them out on the fly and skip to my favorite songs every couple minutes. Then I got the 6 disk changer and got slightly more safe
desrever1138@reddit
I still have one in my car lol. I mostly play Spotify when driving but some of my albums have not been digitalized and they sound better on CD so I occasionally pop one in when in the mood.
Bubbleguts420@reddit
2
Double stacked, 2 in every section
Electronic_Rope4178@reddit
I still have both of bulky and beat up cd binders from 25 years ago. My daughter goes through it and listens to stuff from time to time.
Dildo_Shw4ggins@reddit
Mine’s in my closet now, still full of CDs. I’ll never toss it.
B_Williams_4010@reddit
I used to carry one of those full of karaoke CDs. Back before all the songs from all the companies got digitized into an online database, it was the only way to make sure I always had access to my best songs, no matter what the KJ had in their catalog.
DrakonFyre@reddit
I’ve still got mine about twenty feet away
smoothAsH20@reddit
Who else put cds where the cover was ment to be because you ran out of space and did not want to have 2 cases.
Apprehensive_Map64@reddit
I only finally threw mine out last year while packing for a transatlantic move. I also had one that attached to the sun visor in the car. I found it a couple years ago and thought I would finally try using the cd player in my truck after 5 years of owning it. I was rocking out hard for about three minutes and then the skipping started...
Markoff_Cheney@reddit
Half bought CDs, half burned from friends.
If you were fancy, you had NO burned CDs in the collection, only original Wu Tang and Muse albums.
Mind-of-Jaxon@reddit
A 200 cd holder and a smaller 75 cd holder
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
I had two as well. I put my greatest hits albums in the small one once the collection got too big.
firehawk2324@reddit
I had my Slipknot and Korn CDs right next to my McDonald's Disney Greatest Hits CDs. Then my binder and stereo got stolen from my car and it kinda kill my spirit for a while.
jackfaire@reddit
I think the only reason this wasn't me is I didn't get my license until I was 21. I avoided driving in high school like the plague.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
My CD folder was converted entirely to CD-R. While I may have given my car library away, my original CDs live on in my house. 🙂
ApatheistHeretic@reddit
I still have mine. Not in the car anymore, obviously, but I kept the discs and the binder.
murph0969@reddit
Still have mine in my car right now.
fubo@reddit
Yeah no, mine is still in the car; with R.E.M., Cocteau Twins, and They Might Be Giants in it. It doesn't get a lot of use because there's Spotify now, but it's there.
the_well_read_neck_@reddit
I still have my CD book from high school/ college in my car. My new job is only 5-8 min away, and its not worth turning in the BT adapter. I change the album once every week or 2.
mikeumm@reddit
I had to split mine into two smaller ones cause it was getting too heavy. They still live in my car.
Squirrel_Master82@reddit
Some piece of shit broke into my car and stole my collection like 20 years ago. And I'm still not over it.
CharmingMechanic2473@reddit
I still have my stack of CDs in an old bulk container for barnacles.
C0V1Dsucks@reddit
Yesssssssss
Lily_Thief@reddit
Having a binder full of CDs, which your girlfriend borrows, leaves in her soft top, and it is immediately stolen
SteveEcks@reddit
Mines got all my DVDs and Blu-Rays.
Memory unlocked: In college, I was smoking a joint with a guy I didn't know very well, I knew him from a class or something. It was night, and we were walking through one of the parking lots to get to the dorms or something. He starts checking handles, and within minutes has found someone's CD book in the bed of their truck.
I didn't hang out with him after that, and I stopped leaving all my CDs in the car.
Also, did your car have a built in CD player? Or did you have the cool radio signal box? Or, like me, did you have the magical cassette tape?
the_mighty_hetfield@reddit
I spy Metallica's ReLoad and bit of ...And Justice for All peeking out.
I still have 3 of these filled with my old CDs.
shiftdown@reddit
I had 2 huge binders that were both stolen at different times. Now I just have 1 with a bunch of burned stuff :(
Sam81818@reddit
That's a sport!
Sw4nR0ns0n@reddit
Mine rode shotgun
iGingerBeard@reddit
Some things never change. Am I right? Guys?
noonesaidityet@reddit
I forgot about that AFI album. Damn, need to dig that out.
LocalOaf95@reddit
I had a few of these music bibles. And they all got jacked, along with my subs n amps.
quercus_lobotomy@reddit
I can hear the crack crack crack of flipping through the pages.
