Base coulour
60TP@reddit
Base 90% of the time but I like seeing black occasionally, it adds aura
Mudmavis@reddit
I prefer my aircraft fly safely to my destination, regardless of nose paint color. 😝
justinicon19@reddit
Black. It's more boopable that way
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
I've seen someone mention that aircraft with black noses look like dogs, so ye.
shiftyjku@reddit
747s definitely do from the front.
gusterfell@reddit
UPS 747 are guinea pigs from the front.
danit0ba94@reddit
I think that's a bit of a stretch. But I can kind of see it.
Kind of.
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
They weirdly remind me of Goofy and I cannot unsee it.
miko_idk@reddit
'YUP. I did it. Hua hua. GUILTY.'
badbatch@reddit
Snoopy!
Boforizzle@reddit
Boopability must be taken into account for safety 😂😂
danit0ba94@reddit
For some reason a black nose just works every time. Pretty much irrespective of the livery.
At least imo.
Sophey68@reddit
Black nose < slutty eyeliner
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
Naw, prefer the dog-like look the black noses give them. Eyeliner doesn't replicate that.

Shark mouth
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
Shark mouths aren't painted on commercial airliners.
Brainchild110@reddit
But they should be!
Dracogame@reddit
Generally better without but it’s ok to have some fun every once in a while
SenorBonjela@reddit
Like the black nose. Was flying on this beauty last week.
mcas1987@reddit
That livery is fantastic.
Yachting-Mishaps@reddit
Cheatlines ftw.
Ben_Cumberlidge@reddit
When it’s integrated into the rest of the livery like this, it looks fantastic

I love when the airplanes have the black nose. I like to call it the 'puppy nose'.
xdr567@reddit
Please, please, please can we bring back the black painted nose covers. :(
They looked so majestic.
sheebzus0@reddit
I think realistically they look cool nowadays because they’re super rare to see, but back in the day when it was more common, I personally thought it looked ugly af lol
xdr567@reddit
Used to love them on Indian Airlines A300-B4s.
HSVMalooGTS@reddit
It adds to the smile

I like it. My 2c

Black noses on large aircraft look great! A Super Connie Warning Star is jus beautiful!
gravyisjazzy@reddit
A Delta L1011 in the black nose livery is a damn fine looking airplane. Lufthansa's 747 is also very nice. I'd say I'm in the black nose camp.
Other colors than black though, not so great. One of UPS's brand new 767s (N390UP, loaded it last week) has a gray nose on it and it stands out like a sore thumb.
Ficsit-Incorporated@reddit
Very much depends on the livery. A contrasting nose cone looks great on some aircraft and out of place on others.
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
Agreed, while it looks fine on the 747 it looks disproportionate on the A300, atleast in this style.
DevilRenegade@reddit
Is that a Concorde doing aerobatics in the background?
Allaplgy@reddit
I kinda like it.
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
No denying it's still a bit too big for this aircraft.
PepperAgitated5037@reddit
It is a bit, yeah
Allaplgy@reddit
I'm denying. I kinda like it. I find it, I dunn, nostalgic for some reason.
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
I still feel like the black nose on that A300 should have been smaller. This Alitalia A321 sporting a black nose does it better.
Allaplgy@reddit
Meh. I prefer the 300.
But taste is subjective, so it's all good if you don't.
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
Fair enough. I understand why you prefer the one that you do.
ManWithTheWand@reddit
Is that a Concorde in the background?
Rayuzan_Mojavec@reddit
It could've been just a small dot and itd be miles better
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
Now that you mention it, yes. Kind of like how Alitalia did for their aircraft.
Raxxla@reddit
I believe this was done to help reduce glare for the pilots.
DullMind2023@reddit
As a little kid, I thought the nose of jetliners were made of rubber in case they bumped into another.
On cars these cone shaped bumpers were called Dagmar Bumpers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagmar_bumper?wprov=sfti1#History

i prefer matching the base color. aircraft noses painted black looks like a big mole in the face
fadsoftoday@reddit
I fucking hated it growing up in the 80's. But it has grown on me over time. Now i kinda like it because of childhood nostalgia.
Random-Mutant@reddit
In NZ, black is the aircraft colour.

747s with black noses are peak aircraft design. Big wet dog nose on that thang. Absolute peak.

Flat-Split-7879@reddit
Definitely not black
TigerUSA20@reddit
For some reason, I only want black noses on military aircraft.
randomtask733@reddit
I want nose art back on military aircraft and not approved art, either.

Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
I'm only a fan of how it looks on the Starlifter, not on other millitary aircraft.
CommanderCorrigan@reddit
Black but yeah depends on the livery

Please allow me to introduce myself I'm a black nosed aeroplane.
omykronbr@reddit
Yes
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
Agreed.
TheVoicesSpeakToMe@reddit
Like everyone else has said, depends on the livery. Black nose would look terrible on most of the modern European liveries.
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
Agreed, I've actually addressed below that there are some instances where I wouldn't like the inclusion of a black nose, and that is when the aircraft has an underbelly that is different from base color.
karmais4suckers@reddit
On the older Navy P-8A’s the black nose was actually a de-ice mechanism. If ice formed on the nose there was an air pump that blew up the nose to break the ice. I guess it wasn’t used often because the newer ones don’t have it
vemiscellaneous@reddit
Yes
retiredaaer@reddit
The black cover on the nose is a cover for the weather radar. It is not painted because the paint contains metallic elements that would interfere with the radar signal being transmitted.
StormTheDragon20@reddit
depends on the plane, honestly.
Realistic-Bid9464@reddit (OP)
And on other livery details too. I feel like having both a black nose and different colored underbelly clash. Either keep the nose in base coloe with a differently colored underbelly or black nose with the rest of the fuselage in base color.
