94 Thunderbird v8 Lx
Looking for a replacement for this degas bottle. the original part is discontinued. Any suggestions?
MidDayGamer@reddit
It's a Coolant Overflow Tank.
Ebay man, I had to do the same with my Friends' 97

Sorry I've been chatting with chatgpt to try and figure this out and it was calling it a degas bottle. Thats why I wanted a second opinion lmao
spotdishotdish@reddit
Lol, I didn't think people actually did that. AI auto diagnostics is like 1950s fuel injection right now

I dont know anybody with mechanical advice and the tbird is sentimental. I know not to trust the advice but it at least gives me a starting point.

These or a Haynes manual will have almost everything you'd need to know for whole repair procedures and torque specs for almost any system/part on the car.
spotdishotdish@reddit
See if you can find parts diagrams online. A forum or group for the specific model would be helpful too. Sometimes new old stock pops up on ebay.
basicKitsch@reddit
You have the manual?

I do, but the instructions aren't very clear. Right now im just gonna maybe see if a ford focus tank will fit.
Guy-Manuel@reddit
This is supposed to fit, new aluminum tank: https://ebay.us/m/FLnbvs

Would this work as a pressurized plastic one? I dont have a radiator cap on the tbird its all done through the coolant tank
Kolano_Pigmeja@reddit
ive found it really useful sometimes, but mostly as a rubber duck while I think "out loud"

Please stop using AI for car diagnostics, it doesn’t know what it’s talking about. Read through old forum posts, hats where the actual information is.

Ive been doing my best but google seems worse than usual and I cant find the old forums
Trogasarus@reddit
thats because goog uses ai
plaugedoctrwithradar@reddit
Don’t use Google. Go to the forum for the vehicle you are working on, and then use the search function there.

ChatGPT doesn't actually know anything about cars. It scans a bunch of websites, looks for general patterns, and spits out word combinations that seem believable without any factual basis. It's equally likely to draw from a Firebird repair forum as it is someone lying about their Fiat for shits and giggles.
captain_dunkle@reddit (OP)
Well hey im here now lmao. Really struck a chord with people mentioning AI
Rlchv70@reddit
You are correct. It has a pressurized cap, so it is a degas bottle. They are commonly confused with standard over
spotdishotdish@reddit
Wouldn't a pressurized cap mean it is either expansion or degas, and having both an inlet and outlet for continuous flow mean degas?
justin251@reddit
I've seen tutorials online about how you can clean. Probably a YouTube.
