If only the battery wasn’t underneath
Kookaburra2@reddit
FWIW I run one on my glock for the past 3 years averaging 5k rounds a year through it and have not had to replace it.
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
…just waiting for it to die when you most need it to work?
Kookaburra2@reddit
Fair enough but also easy to just change batteries yearly. On the one I replaced the battery on the zero didnt actually shift.
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
Awesome that the zero didn’t shift, but would you trust that it wouldn’t shift and not check to confirm at the range first before carrying it for self defense?
Actually zeroing it isn’t the problem. The problem is that you need to check it before you should be carrying it.
hootervisionllc@reddit
I only use direct milled Glocks (no plates), and every single time taking a fresh RMR out of the box and installing, it’s almost dead on. Honestly, minute of man is sufficient for this anyway.
But, not saying you shouldn’t verify zero. The sky is not falling having to replace the battery though
Coldones@reddit
I avoided RMRs for a while because of that, but I eventually ended up buying a PD trade one because it was cheap. I've realized it's really not that big of a deal just because I've never actually had to make a zero adjustment after remounting. I suspect the "re-zero after reinstalling" thing is more of a CYA disclaimer. Most other optics with top/side loaded batteries still require you to break out a torque driver to swap it anyway

Non-adjustable fyi
faRawrie@reddit
I interpreted this as you can't zero it.
Kookaburra2@reddit
Lol same here
oceanspyde@reddit
nope- fixed brightness

Hot take: in 2026 the type 2 rmr, especially these nonadjustable models, are imminently MID optics. I would not touch one at a price over $300. Hell I've never paid more than $350 for any of my 5 rmr's (of which only 2 now remain)... and those were purchased back when they WERE pretty much the only duty grade choice for a pistol mounted red dot back in the day when you were either in the rmr camp or the dpp camp.
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
Agreed minus the Vortex part, their pistol stuff I wouldn’t say is good-to-go yet. That aMaZiNg WaRrAnTy doesn’t help me any if it craps out when I need it 💀
Coldones@reddit
I mean they are kind of pricy for what they are, but used ones don't really sell for less than $300 unless they're really fucked up. $400 for an optic that you know is going to last a long ass time, and that you can always sell for at least $300 doesn't seem like a bad deal to me
Gremguy22@reddit
True. The price to value is just not there. They do have the drip factor tho. Kinda like Colt, got the drip but have been left behind and getting smoked my their competition on modern offerings yet still think they command a premium.
joeblowX4@reddit
What was the hot take? I’m only buying RMR’s anymore because I like the way they look more than anything else out and they just work.
