Same. Some of my favorite memories are sailing a Hobie 18 with my dad. Now sailing a comfy O'day Mariner 19 with my girlfriend. I miss the speed and performance... maybe one day I'll find another one.
When I was 16, I bought a t-shirt with the Hobie Cat logo that said, āHave you gotten it up lately?ā My mom was, uh, not a fan and it disappeared in the laundry. š¤·āāļø
Oh the memories. I learned on the little 10ā sailing dingies on Couer dāAlain lake in Idaho. My last sail was on a Hobie16ā nearly 30 years ago off Gulf Breeze, FL. All I dream about is retiring and getting back to the ocean to sail full time! Sailing in MT is possibleā¦but itās not the ocean!

I learned on a hobie 18 and the damn thing felt like a rocket ship. Loved that boat

Need to sell my hobie 20, makes me sad. Only have the time and crew for a hobie getaway. Still fun, but not quite the same
fishedin@reddit
Careful! I've had a few injuries going barefoot.
bryangcrane@reddit
And a few injuries catapulting over the rigging šš
BeerForThought@reddit
Or into the rigging.
bryangcrane@reddit
Yes! Exactly.
Raneynickelfire@reddit
I genuinely hate those boats.
Visible_Ad_5803@reddit
Dont go barefoot
TheTallGuy0@reddit
I know national F18 champs who sail barefootā¦Ā
ppitm@reddit
Yeah, the idea of barefoot being dangerous while not wearing gloves is pretty funny. It's all digits.
TheTallGuy0@reddit
Same guy doesnāt wear gloves while crewing too. Heās a madman
Visible_Ad_5803@reddit
I'll recommand doing both. But everybody is free.

Do all Hobies hum when they get going? My 18 does as well and was curious if it was just a design trait.
Catzenpudl@reddit
My H16 was a hummer.
doodling_scribbles@reddit
Yesssssssssā¦
Faster.
Higher.
jchrysostom@reddit
I raced an H20 for a few seasons, nobody in the fleet had a bowsprit. Is that some sort of aftermarket asym/gennaker thing?
grumpvet87@reddit
it is a "Snu" brand snuffer (only sold for a few years) with a spin inside. my guess is it is asymmetrical as a symmetrical one wouldn't snuff easily
where i sailed (gulf of mexico) we had lots of open class racing (run what ya brung)
Birdchild@reddit
Spinnakers arent class legal but folks add em for funsies
justforkinks0131@reddit
you're basically windsurfing
grumpvet87@reddit
