I need a 3.5
pinkbunnay@reddit
Sorry late reply but what's the need for 3.25? Genuinely curious, getting into the red dot game.
phatdoughnut83@reddit
I just don't like the really big dot. Covering the whole window.

It's that price + the $100 off is the $100 off already included? Cause that isn't half bad.
Teamramrod_87@reddit
The rebate is separate. The 3.25 moa WAS the same price as OP, but they jacked up the price to $480 during checkout…

Wow!

Is 6.5 MOA useful to anyone? I can see 3 MOA as useful but 6.5 just seems crazy big.
torchredzo6@reddit
6 moa is perfect for a pistol IMO. I prefer the 6 moa RMR to my 3.25 dots. Seems better for my astigmatism. Either one is fine though.
iamthegh05t@reddit
Really? I have astigmatism as well and I would have thought a larger dot would be more blurry, is that not the case?
usedtomakemelaugh@reddit
No. For astigmatism you want a larger dot. You can run a larger dot with a little bit less brightness (read: less astigmatism bloom) and still have it be equally observable to a smaller dot at higher brightness.
MedicalRepublic751@reddit
Once you get used to “not looking” at the dot but at the target beyond it, the fuzzy red dot becomes crisper. After a couple of trips to the range, it’ll be second nature.
torchredzo6@reddit
Not for me no. I think the blue tint and a large dot work well together.
alephnul@reddit
I run a 16 MOA dot in the C-More sight on my Steel Challenge rimfire rifle. All I have to do is hit a 6"-8" steel plate mostly under 20 yards away. Accuracy isn't the prime issue in Steel Challenge, speed is. Large dot is easy to acquire and helps hold focus.
benihana@reddit
perfect for a shotgun
cosmos7@reddit
6.5 MOA means the dot covers a 6.5" circle at 100 yards. You're not that good, especially freehand.
Most in the know prefer a larger dot all the way up to about 8 MOA for a handgun. Smaller for a rifle or PCC maybe, but certainly not a handgun.
MedicalRepublic751@reddit
I have a Sig Romeo1Pro that's 6 MOA. That size dot is perfect for SD/HD and less than perfect beyond 25 yards.
NoLevel7995@reddit
I appreciate your reply and that’s good to know. I guess a 6 MOA dot would work on my pistol if i ever get around to adding one but I’ll stick to a 3 MOA dot for my rifle backup.
MedicalRepublic751@reddit
Ah, this adds more context. Yes, 3 MOA dot or smaller for a rifle back-up is perfect. If it's a handgun, I wouldn't go smaller than 3 MOA.
NoLevel7995@reddit
Very much appreciated. Thank you!
MedicalRepublic751@reddit
You're very welcome!
WowBruhReborn@reddit
The fact that people still buy this outdated optic still is so funny. Even at $350 it’s overpriced. These should be $100 at most but “muh militawy contwact” keeps the prices high. As if the military doesnt often take the lowest bidder
eluhvated@reddit
Anyone found a replacement site with no tax? They raised the price to $485 smh
eluhvated@reddit
Anyone found a replacement site that doesn’t charge tax? They raised the price to $385
obamasfursona@reddit
This or a Defender and a case of 9mm
GoFuhQRself@reddit
Scheels has the Defender XL $199 free shipping. Then Amex has a $30 off Scheels offer and Cap One Shopping had $50 off. Combined I got the Defender for $130. Mega BIN
Echo_Raptor@reddit
I mean, if you want a defender they’re not that bad. I wouldn’t, but if that’s what you want you could do worse
phxtravis@reddit
I had an RMR and the thing is a tank, but having to remove to change the batteries annoyed me… especially with how common I see people snapping the screws on red dots. Even using the torque wrench, sometimes it just feels like something about to snap while tightening.
caterham09@reddit
Defender and ammo no question
Mediocre_Might_8473@reddit
always more ammo
LiQuiEx@reddit
Yeah, I was thinking about getting a new slide and barrel for my G17.3 to do a Red Dot on it. Ended up just buying more ammo instead hahah
HK_Bandit95@reddit
Honestly I like the trijicon optics, but the EPS carry I picked up is starting to grow on me and the more I practice with it the more I enjoy it.
I really think the other optic companies have caught up with trijicon but I like my RMR HD and RCR alot. Hope the Holosun keeps on going and proves me right about them.
cosmos7@reddit
Heh... a feature-rich optic with better glass, better battery life, fully enclosed and doesn't require removal and re-zero'ing to change the battery for about half the price?
Honestly I'm shocked people still think the RMR is worth it. I'm all for buying American, but not for an inferior product at twice the price.
benihana@reddit
you didn't mention the main feature of the RMR that people get it for: reliability / ability to take a beating and still work and the peace of mind that comes with that.
if that's not a feature you personally want, fine, but that is a feature that you can't really compare to things like "multiple reticles, multiple colors, enclosed emitter" etc.
abyprop07@reddit
Yup, my Holosun had a ton of great features until the glass fell out during the second range trip. Would have happily paid the extra $150 to have a gun that was up and running while all my buddies were in town. Never again. None of my Trijicon stuff has ever had a single issue, and the battery tray issues I see in r/Holosun constantly makes me be able to tolerate the agony of, uh, taking out two screws once every few years and then put them back in lol
CorporateCuster@reddit
The glass fell out. No it didn’t.
abyprop07@reddit
lol ok bud. Weird thing to lie about. I have photos, an email chain, RMA, and new replacement optic that say otherwise. GFY.
Tdubz91@reddit
The front fell off. It’s not very typical.
abyprop07@reddit
Never had issues with their other problems, and seeing this happen to someone else may have been less impactful… but not fun and I don’t like money enough to save it this way.
abyprop07@reddit
And to further clarify, fell out under recoil of a viscous G19 lol. Never dropped or mistreated. 407c.
cosmos7@reddit
I will grant durability... although if I were going to war with my handgun I still wouldn't be choosing an open optic with mid-level glass. However you're not going to war with it... you're plinking, carrying or LARP'ing, all of which could be served with one of the other fine and durable optics on the market that were actually released in the last decade. Face it... if you were actually on duty or going to war with an optic-enabled handgun you're not choosing the RMR either... because your agency is telling you what to you have to live with good or bad, and it's probably going to be an Acro or COA.
Efficient-Engine9812@reddit
If you're saying "duty" to mean law enforcement, I would say holosun is the most popular optic amongst law enforcement (in the US).
I've run both trijicon (RMR and MRO) and holosun (not even sure which). I love my trijicon, my RMR did have a warranty repair though. I now buy holosun almost exclusively.
MGPythagoras@reddit
RMR seems sensible for duty and such but for normal people and CCW it seems overrated. I got the HD recently and it’s super nice but isn’t wowing me more than any cheaper optic I have.
jtrobs@reddit
It is the 18 y.o. marines stomping on the fuckers and them not breaking that caysed me to buy one as my first pistol optic. I was fully aware of its shortcoming. Id probably get an eps or one of the $350 steiner mps that come for sale from time to time as my next sight. I have an aimpoint p2 on a beretta a300 up that i absolutely love but also cant justify another one for $600.
Coldones@reddit
Better battery life? Idk about that one, in my experience battery is the main drawback to holosuns. They all use tiny ass 1620 and 1632 batteries.
Agil-lite@reddit
I mean given the labor cost burden along for trijicon is 5x or more than Holosun doesn't seem to bad.
cosmos7@reddit
Then you do you. Two EPS for the price of one stupid RMR that I have to re-zero every year when I change the battery easily makes it the better value proposition for me.
fluxdeity@reddit
Where are you getting 2 EPS for $354?
cosmos7@reddit
You're not getting the RMR for $354 either... you're paying $454 plus tax on the hope that (maybe) you fill out the paperwork perfectly and (maybe) you might get a $100 back in 1-3 months.
EPS Red is $250 new, and regularly $200-$225 used on GAFS.
MTUTMB555@reddit
Did one of these for Trijicon a couple years ago and it came back in like a month or two. There’s no reason to think they won’t do it.
fluxdeity@reddit
I picked up and RCR last year on a rebate and had zero issues getting it. The only company I've ever had issues getting a rebate from is Menards.
Echo_Raptor@reddit
I’m in the minority but I would pick trijicon and most other brands over holosun.
Personal choice of mine but I don’t want to support the CCP/pla
Da_hoodest_hoodrat@reddit
As someone who had a SCS and then went to a RMR HD, the glass quality alone is a giant, GIANT selling point. I have an astigmatism, and genuinely wasn’t expecting the level of clarity that the reticle had. I was blown away, All I was expecting was a bigger window and the front facing light sensor. This was genuinely the first time in my life that a premium product actually just amazed me with a step up from a product a tier below it.
Coldones@reddit
Holosuns are solid and reliable, but I guess due to a combo of my carry habits and brightness preferences, I always get terrible battery life out of any optic that takes those tiny cr1620 batteries(both the full sized EPS and the carry use them). I decided I’m sticking to optics that use 2032s from now on
YourMomIsStillHot@reddit
How much battery life were you getting out of them
Coldones@reddit
I was changing them every 1.5-3 months
BlizzardOwO@reddit
Why does everyone like trijicon so much? Like i know they are battle proven and what not? But for a mediocre red dot with a 6.5 moa dot…. Why not something like a holosun?
yes i know holosun gets manufactured in asia… i’ve owned multiple holosuns with no issues
Echo_Raptor@reddit
RMRs are extremely durable. Some like it for that.
RMRs are made in America, some like it for that.
Holosuns are cheaper, some like it for that.
Holosuns are made in china, and buying them directly goes to funding the CCP and the PLA’s research. That doesn’t bother everybody, but me personally it does and I don’t buy them anymore after learning that. It i won’t rag on somebody that does.
MedicalRepublic751@reddit
Unless I am missing something, why are Trijicon RMR mediocre? Otherwise, I'd say you pay for American-built quality, customer service, and battle proven reliability of the brand. If I was in the market for a red dot, I'd get this in a heartbeat.
Trustpage@reddit
Old tech at gucci prices. Open emitter, no shake awake, and have to remove the optic to change the battery.
Only reasons to buy this are brand name and durability, but even then if you truly want durability closed emitter is more important.
MedicalRepublic751@reddit
I get your point and agree. Closed emitter > open emitter, and top-loaded battery is less hassle.
Considering how rugged this RMR is, I am not too concerned about it being open emitter. Constant on red dot that needs a battery change once every 4-5 years sounds like a good trade-off for having to use my torque wrench for a 5-minute battery swap. Also, old tech = proven tech. Too many 1st gen red dots from various manufacturers lately have had kinks.
Thankfully, we live in a free country where we have choices and everyone has the pleasure to buy whichever red dot they like.
proquo@reddit
The main concern here is the glass or the emitter getting obscured by debris or mud, etc. I'm not on the "must be enclosed" train but I have experienced myself and several other guys basically having non-functional RMRs when training on a rainy, muddy day.
The bigger concern about reliability in adverse conditions is that the battery compartment is not sealed and requires a sealing plate for that.
The concern is that removing the optic, replacing the battery, and then reinstalling the optic can shift zero. I've personally seen it retain zero when good mounting procedures were used both times but others have reported issues. Either way you need to go to the range to verify whereas a Holosun is just a battery tray removal and reinstall.
The big complaint about it being old is that it still costs between $400-$500, whereas you can get a Holosun HS407c for $150 and have a very reputable carry optic. Similarly priced competitors offer a lot more in features like better glass clarity, titanium bodies, multi-reticle systems, sealed battery compartment, etc. Much like the ACOG, where the Trijicon optic has stayed $1k after decades while similarly priced competitors offer a lot more in terms of features.
Not trying to change your opinion either way, just giving the counterarguments for why one might not prefer an RMR over competitors.
MedicalRepublic751@reddit
Hear, hear! Thank you for explaining so well. You made some great points, and I’m not being sardonic!
Coldones@reddit
I don't think $350 is gucci prices. Aren't the nicer holosuns like $275-$350?
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
Don’t forget you need a sealing plate!
Wu_tang_dan@reddit
what are you talking about?
RunIndependent8102@reddit
brokey
xfurnacex666@reddit
Interesting. I have owned Holosuns and only had issues. We are not the same.
SniperLandy@reddit
I was up in Maine last summer where it hit 113 degrees had my case of handguns and rifles all with dots in my trunk. When we went to go shoot all my dots works besides my holosun eps carry. I thought it just died on me couldn’t turn it on a few hours later when sitting in the shade I looked at it again and it was on. Must have not been able to handle the heat - all my trijicons aim points and eotechs had no issue. If you’re looking for a cheap dot for a range toy go for it but I wouldn’t trust them on any of my go to weapons
Creepindeath81@reddit
Because they are battle proven. Every day that goes by seems to bring us closer to a SHTF scenario so I want what works on my defense guns. I also have holosuns so it's not like I'm a brand loyalist, but if it came down it, I'd rather buy a used RMR or new for a good deal over a Holosun.
officialbronut21@reddit
High price=better in most people's minds. Same reason dealers have MAP
Zellco@reddit
Durability and reputation. Both of those comes with a cost. I own both, never had any issues with Holosun but I do like the always on approach vs shake awake. If I’m just going to plink and have a fun day on a range, both are good. If my life depends on it, I’ll reach for trijicon
Popular-Ad2193@reddit
Nothing wrong with holosun! But on my primary go to firearms I’ll only use aimpoint or trijicon optics! I like battle proven on stuff I may need to depend on one day! That being said I have cheaper vortex optics on other fun guns
Brilliant-Bat7063@reddit
Still unmatched durability.
Plus drip. No one is gonna look at Holosun and think it’s a flex. Yes I know they do have good offerings and I own some too but Trijicon and Aimpoint and similar are just a different level
DoughnutSnake@reddit
Love my RMR but probably wont ever buy one again when holosun/vortex can be had for 200 less. Wont ever sell mine though because it is one of the best looking RDS out there.
Coldones@reddit
Holosun 407c is for sure much better bang for the buck, but one good thing about a $350 RMR is $350 is what they usually go for used
goodtalkruss@reddit
Other conversations aside, tree fiddy is as low as you're going to see for this optic.

mabellaneda@reddit
Just bought one for $340 on GAFS but contemplating getting this. But 6.5 moa seems like too much especially since it’s gunna be on a poggyback
Patfa412@reddit
I have the 6.5 on my glock and it's fine. Piggy back you might want to do 3. Ar15discounts has the 3moa for tree fiddy plus shipping after rebate
killerradar1@reddit
Just as a warning, I bought my sro and it came pre-salted. I looked it up and apparently this is pretty standard for trijicons.... lots of people have gotten them with cosmetic defects out of the box. it's not what I expected for something that commands such a price and it'll be my last and only trijicon
iamthegh05t@reddit
What does "pre-salted" mean?
unholydesires@reddit
When bubba fondles your RMR with his sweaty hands before letting it dry and putting it back in the box to be sold as new.
killerradar1@reddit
Salt basically means wear and tear. When you use sights for a while, you get tiny specs of cosmetic damage from casings bouncing off of it like scratches and dents or specks of brass.
abyprop07@reddit
Man my wife isn’t even this funny about her new purses
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
RCR owner, can confirm. Got mine from Bass Pro and assumed it was the display model that everyone finger fucked but no, they exchanged it for me and I had to wait til they got more from Trijicon. Looked the same.
Triggerz777@reddit
That's probably because there consumer market is primarily military right ?
