Thats awesome, I dont miss shooting irons but dont mind it. Everything has a dot or lpvo now, I will say I like shooting irons more on my sp5 than with a dot.
I'd rather shoot my guns than spend hundreds of dollars upgrading them. And most of the ammo I shot hey got on sale or was really cheap steelcase stuff. Don't be considering getting one of the cyelee t3 red dots for $60 i just don't know how it would hold up which is what my hesitation is about?
This doesn't get mentioned much my friend. But when you get around 10,000, you're probably going to need a new barrel. I've shot a few barrels out in my lifetime and that seems to be the magic number to start losing accuracy.
I've also broke a few extractors at about the 6 to 7,000 round mark. Luckily at the time, that was out of a Wyndham weaponry AR so they replaced the extractor's free of charge.
My extractor and gas rings needed to be replaced at 4000-4500rds and started to lose accuracy around 5000rds but mine is a 4150 nitride barrel so thats to be expected
My favorite is when somebody posts a handgun on here that you can tell they don't shoot. No holster or grip wear and looks brand new. Then they talk about how reliable it's been LOL.
Yep lol. I was a police department armor and farm instructor. We shot once a month and even shooting that little, you'll still see a lot of wear on the grips and on the holster.
My personal line for "build" is assembling from parts. If somebody assembles a lower from a stripped receiver, lower parts kit, and buffer kit, that's "building" the lower to me, even if they didn't manufacture the receiver from an 80% or 3D print it.
But if they just accessorize an upper and lower, that's not a build to me.
pretty much all ARs are assembled. There's not really any filing, polishing, or hand-fitting that needs to be done. Only gauging for out of spec parts and putting it together.
The idea that a person buys all individual parts and puts it together isn't building, but what BCM does or any other manufacturer does is building is patently absurd.
It's just dumb semantics. Does a carpenter build or assemble a house? all the woodland materials are all standardized, the plan for the house is based on standard, legal design and engineering constraints. What about prefab homes? Built or assembled?
The words generally mean the same thing. That people get bent out of shape about it with guns is nothing but idiotic gatekeeping.
wut? you don't need anything but normal shop tools, an armorer's wrench, and a torque wrench. There's basically zero gunsmithing that is involved in building an AR. If you're taking a dremel to anything, it's probably an out of spec part that needs to be returned before you start whittling it down.
I think people are getting "build" confused with "built". A 'build' in gamer slang is what -configuration- you're running ('running' is also slang for "currently using"), usually referencing to the stat choices in an RPG. If you change the headlights on your car from halogen to LED, you're vehicle is running a specific build now. It's slang bleeding into other areas. It's only confusing on topics like ARs because a lot of people actually do -build- them.
80% lowers are great, i have found that if you dont mil the trigger pocket as deeply has recommended, you can create your own bianary trigger. Not sure how it works, but happened when I milled my AR10. Lots of fun, but soooo expensive to shoot.
Even 5.56 is very expensive to shoot FRT. I am hopeing that they come out with an FRT for the Ruger LC Carbine, because 5.7 (at least when I live here in Ohio) is $25 for a box of 50, VS 5.56 which is floating around $14 for a box of 20.
my very first rifle I ever owned, I assembled my lower and my upper part by part and tuned it, I didn’t just buy an upper and slap it on an already assembled lower
Can’t really say that I “made” it but when I talk to most others this is the exact thing they’ve done and say that very thing, always in disbelief when I clarify what I meant.
By no means am I bragging just relating lol, and I’m ngl my first rifle build wasn’t terrible but it was definitely done by an amateur (me). Mostly because the bolt catch groove on my lower was out of spec but nonetheless.
I just got one of PSA's new 10.3" Guardsmen "pistols" with the flat trigger... its really nice! It was under $700 and came with upgrades in all the right places.
What kind of Lego set involves snapping together two pieces?
I do tend to think that the word "build" should be reserved for something that goes beyond the level of assembly/disassembly required for routine maintenance.
I would let someone use the term "build" for buying a variety of components and assembling them together. This can be as complicated as buying lower reciever, lower parts kit, upper reciever, barrel, handguard, buffer, bolt, stock, etc, or buying a complete rifle and accessorizing it heavily. There needs to be a certain level of personalization met to hit that threshold.
What I won't count as "build" is buying a complete AR, or an upper and lower and assembling them, and throwing an optic on it. That's not a build, that's a rifle with a scope/dot.
Same thing with pistols, if you bought a pistol off the shelf and stuck a dot and a light on it, that's not a build, that's a pistol with a dot and a light. If you switch out some components or get custom work done to the slide or frame, then that can count as a build.
In my opinion, someone hasn’t built an AR until a detente pin has flown into their face, they can’t find where that darn spring went, or the manufacturer pre-lost the spring for them because they forgot to put the hammer spring in a darn parts kit!
Long story short, building may require an oops or a whoops kit on hand

Wouldnt even say that is assembled. Literally just slapped a lower and upper together. You can do that when cleaning/after cleaning😅
