Seems like a dry Spring leading in an El-Nino Summer (probably) is a very bad time for this whole-sale gutting of the Forest Service especially in light of the FEMA fuck-up the administration has already overseen. Good luck I suppose.

So disclosure, is this your blog?
Awkward_Mastodon4332@reddit (OP)
No, I'm not from the US.

Our public lands are about the only thing left I genuinely love about my country, and this soft handed City boy is hellbent in dismantling it. Sort of funny being that hunters make up so much of his base.
pvdfan@reddit
Hell hunters are going to be thrilled if they can slaughter any animal, at any time. Far too many people enjoy seeing the old photos of bison skulls stacked high.
andrewgynous@reddit
Don't sow division. This is terrible policy and terrible action by Trump, obviously.
But hunters are some of the greatest conservationists out here
JUGG3RN4UT@reddit
Hey now - you're right that there's a certain number of people that would enjoy that. They're not hunters or fisher-folk.
They're poachers.
We hate them just the same because we don't want quantity, we want quality & to be able to come back next time.
Radiomaster138@reddit
Visiting another country for months and seeing it as a wasteland makes our parks look like something from a Lisa Frank book.
deadblankspacehole@reddit
The hunters won't notice, nor will they blame him. They will blame Biden. They've got a big time gay crush
xirvin@reddit
Brilliant plan: tear down the very agencies that protect forests, wildlife, clean water, and public land, then act surprised when everything gets worse.
HawkeyeByMarriage@reddit
Sell the wood. Mine the earth. Buy gold trinkets. Screw the next people born
Minergy@reddit
There barely will be next people.
Anastariana@reddit
Thats our ultimate weapon; they can't have a kingdom if there aren't any peasants to lord over.
Our revenge is to deny them further generations. I'm doing my part.
Philomath117@reddit
I wish that were true, with the right technology, they'll hardly need anyone around.
Anastariana@reddit
Contrary to what the techbros claim, that level of tech isn't anywhere near ready.
Will be eventually, but population collapse is going to destroy capitalism before they get there; our current economic system is based on endless population growth and that paradigm is at an end. Of course, they'll burn the world down trying to keep it going.
Philomath117@reddit
I mean they have some pretty sophisticated automated factories in China, general robots are getting there and although I agree with you. The better question is do they think they can get there fast enough? They certainly seem to be trying. Besides it's easy enough to keep a cadre of serfs around to bridge the difference when it all goes down. They certainly appear to planning on that.
Void_of_a_Writer01@reddit
It’s okay, the way humans rampage around no better than any toddler throwing a tantrum and destroying other’s sandcastles… the 6th Mass Extinction which we have only supercharged, will virtually guarantee that at least 1/2 of the current global population will starve out of existence due to the impending Multiple Breadbasket Failure. This essentially means that once our food production sees a ~50% global drop, at least 60 to 70% of the human population will be starved out of existence.
Why else would you think they’re pushing so hard for humanoid-style, autonomous robots when there are plenty of non-humanoid formats that can easily be 100x more efficient than any human-like form? The point is this is what they wanted, and once the primary workforce is autonomous? The debt-slave class becomes completely disposable.
Malfor_ium@reddit
*then blame democrats when everything, predictably, gets worse
ElephantContent8835@reddit
If you haven’t realized this in the biggest pump and dump in the history of the world, you’re not paying attention. Trumps regime has one purpose- destroy America- devalue the dollar, steal what they can, and sell what’s left.
Ultra-Smurfmarine@reddit
Our entire global economy is one utterly enormous pyramid scheme and I'm losing my mind trying to get that into people's heads. This business model is illegal for a reason, but for some reason structuring the global economy like that is fine???
lowercase_crazy@reddit
Every single workplace is a pyramid scheme. There's an asshole at the top called an owner who does fuck all that gets all the money while the rest of us do all their work for them. Kick them the fuck out and make the people that do the work the owners and we'll see everybody getting a pay raise and actually caring about the work they do because it'll be tied into their performance.
YYKES@reddit
It’s only illegal if it’s upheld. Plenty of pyramid schemes doing business in America. But yeah. It’s fucked
SolidAssignment@reddit
Comment of the year. 👍🏿
Suckamanhwewhuuut@reddit
And then blame it on democrats and 33% of people will say “obviously it’s the democrats” and repeat. We are so stupid
DevilsPajamas@reddit
Corporations need places to build AI datacenters.
yeperoonie@reddit
They don't give a damn if things get worse. In fact, they're counting on it. It's why they're looting what they can to hoard as much wealth as possible before the world gets too hot and the poors (fucking us) die off. Without the protections on the forests, there's a sudden abundance of natural resources to harvest and sell off.
creepindacellar@reddit
they won't be surprised, they are banking on profiting from the misery. it isn't ineptitude, it is intention.
nullzeroerror@reddit
This country is over
squeaki@reddit
This headline makes me feel sick
Fuck Trump, and all who do what he says, I wish he were gone from the face of the earth.
modtrax@reddit
Take solace in that this headline isn’t true. It’s a geographic reorg that will have some real negative impact but is not a dismantling

calico134@reddit
This is definitely a dismantling, don't fall for the intentionally bureaucratic language. Like the article says, you can't just ship scientific experts and experiments to Utah, they have to happen on location. People spent their entire careers studying their forests and now it's being shuttered so they won't get in the way. It is intentional.
iamjustaguy@reddit
Once Trump is gone, we still have to deal with the people who put him there.
Realistic_Young9008@reddit
And now everytime some American hops on Canadian subs accuses Canada of not managing the millions of remote hectares of forests during wildfire season, I'm gonna post this in response and ask who's managing theirs.

No worry, soon private firefighting corp will appear, you'll have a queue of priority based on who gave the most money. Firefighter will require a tip. You'll have to provide them water....
PlutoJones42@reddit
Why do conservatives want to make everything worse literally all the time?
Republicans:
Accessible Education? Nah
Accessible Healthcare? Nah
Science? Nah
Safety regulations? Nah
Better wages? Nah
Social safety nets to give all citizens a good shot at life? Nah
Prosecute pedophiles? Nah, especially not that

Anything to distract from the Epstein files
lavapig_love@reddit
Trump's executive orders aren't the same as laws passed by Congress.
The courts have been pushing back on some of these, including attempts to dismantle the entire Department of Education. This will be treated similarly.
GodsStrongestSchitzo@reddit
True, but if a bunch of land is sold off before legal challenges can be issued, I have no hope that it would ever return to public property
cosmicosmo4@reddit
Excuse you, the dismantling of the USFS was purchased fair and square. Where in the constitution does it say congress has a check on Weyerhauser's power?
Cultural-Answer-321@reddit
You joke, but it's actually in the Constitution.
Article I, Section 8, Clause 3
But Republicans and corporations have never cared about the Constitution.
DLP2000@reddit
Unfortunately the courts are A) slow and B) generally ignored and powerless.
Really wish people would get over the whole "its not legal/allowed/constitutional!" Bandwagon.
Like no shit, we know. And we know that it doesn't matter, there is no one actually standing up to make a difference. Elected officials dont give a shit and there is no one enforcing court rulings.
I've no idea what to do about it other than getting madder over the incredibly helpless state "We The People" are in.
Sure, we can hope midterms make a change IF we even get to vote. And even then, this whole fucking right wind mentality isn't going away. We might get a Dem administration in for a few years, they will bust ass trying to fix stuff, R's will drag ass and fight back the whole way, and bam a third (or less) of the population will just reelect the same type of admin as we have now.
The cycle has been going on for decades, its worse now than ever, and for sure midterms will fix it. For sure, this time will be different.
Fucking mad over here. I've been on my local town board, I vote, I get involved, and theres zero impact, zero change, mostly I think because this admin is totally unaccountable and theres no one at any level that can actually make an impactful difference. Working as designed obviously.
"We the people" no longer get a say.
And optimistic replies dont amount to much more than text online.
I hope we get to vote in midterms but I seriously doubt we will get to in any sort of meaningful way.
What to do? Far as I can tell just....survive.
therobz@reddit
It is the m.o. of this regime: shoot first, ask questions later (or tear down the building/forest/whatever first).
jeffplaysmoog@reddit
I think of it like that one Lego builder clip from the news. They spend days/months/years building some gigantic Lego creation and then some fool from the news comes in and knocks it over. The damage is done! They can rebuild, but it takes 2 seconds to destroy and that is alarming...
Known_Expression1308@reddit
And if the Dems get back in power, all they will be doing is fixing things to the non trump status quo. Still letting the rich fuck us all in the meantime
Awkward_Mastodon4332@reddit (OP)
Yeah, surveying and mineral extraction takes time and could be stopped by the courts but logging can be fast. And then it's a case of what forests?
Livid-Rutabaga@reddit
I live in FL, and every time we had a forest fire everyone would say a developer got told no, so they set the land on fire.

I saw a post telling he's literally cutting everything that helps people, food, housing, education, meanwhile army gets like 1.5 trillion. He wants additional 41 Frigates.
As a European that makes me extra nervous.
calico134@reddit
So much for running off to the woods when society collapses. /j
Actually, fuck it, I'll leave a more serious comment. The national forests and parks were an important part of my childhood. Everyone may forget this headline in a week, but I'll remember. When this country collapses and there's no land to live off of, I'll remind the people around me who did this: greedy, indifferent rich people.
TopSloth@reddit
Yes I'm absolutely in love with our forests as well, when I grew up I moved to live on the outskirts of a national forest and I really do try and go out into them when I can. I work in the lumber industry but our company only uses renewable tree farms, specifically yellow pine, but I still know how business goes and if the regulations get relaxed on the national forests I can see many logging companies going in them and absolutely clear cutting huge areas just for profit
mrpickles@reddit
US is turning into one big pit mine
No consideration for the future. Just burn it all for firewood
Cultural-Answer-321@reddit
Turning?
It's been one before any of us were born. Teddy fought long and hard to keep ANY kind of preservation.
The political battle to even create national reserves is very interesting history. It was quite cutthroat.

No I think the sportsmen aspect is about to get real angry.
dunadan235813@reddit
They finally are doing it. Republicans have been trying to sell off public lands since the 60s and they finally are getting their wish. I worked for the FS for a decade and watches it get more and more difficult to work there by design and now the agency responsible for overseeing almost 200 million acres of land that employs 35000 people is defunct. Id expect to see the mass deforestation and other forms of land exploitation skyrocket in the American West in the coming decades. The wild west is back.

Ive heard a complaint by environmentalists that all the forest service does is build roads into remote national forests at taxpayer expense to make it easier for timber vompanies to ho in and clearcut.
smarmy1625@reddit
it's true. they also hold auctions to sell off the logging rights, but notoriously get gamed and often end up selling the trees for a loss.
KWNBeat@reddit
On the same day he asked the military budget to be upped from 1,000 billion to 1,500 billion. Even that doesn't make the number seem real. Instead of one million million dollars, he wants to spend one million million dollars and then also another 500,000 million dollars.

Call your Congressional representatives and let them know you do not support this. Some of Congress has started fighting these plans!
IntravenousVomit@reddit
Didn't the Forest Service just make an announcement of some kind less than a week ago about something that Trump might not have liked? Or am I imagining things? This news is flooding my searches so I can't dig it up.
Caymonki@reddit
How to tie up government resources so they can take funding away from services to give to military contractors to fight a war no one wants.
