This thing is almost as shitty as all the car media now calling fast back SUVs and Sedans „coupes“ for
The_Crazy_Swede@reddit
And wagons have magically been renamed to Shooting brake

And Volkswagen's reality is just Nissan's past...
https://www.nissanusa.com/vehicles/discontinued/murano-crosscabriolet.html
GarThor_TMK@reddit
Technically VW still did it first...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Type_181
AnonymousBromosapien@reddit
Its beautiful lol.
GarThor_TMK@reddit
Ikr?
If VW actually brought back the thing, it'd go hard.
People are dying for a cheap, cloth or removable hard top, convertible SUV.
Just look at the bronco, and how well that's doing... they're gobbling it up!
Bernard_PT@reddit
Motorcyclist here
We allow people to ride motorcycles but we don't allow cheap cars to be sold due to safety regulations?
GarThor_TMK@reddit
yes

1948 Willys Jeepster

GarThor_TMK@reddit
I mean... if you want to be technical about it Horatio Nelson Jackson made the first trans-continental automobile journey in a 20hp Winton, which was also a convertible.
Bernard_PT@reddit
Nothing beats the open top evoque, a fucking shoe
lique_madique@reddit
Not to mention that Range Rover also did an Evoque convertible
IgDailystapler@reddit
I have been (un)lucky enough to see both in person…
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
Don’t ever denigrate the majesty that is the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet
SpAwNjBoB@reddit
I too live with the ocular scars of those encounters.
KamakaziDemiGod@reddit
How can you mention the abomination that was the Evoque convertible, but didn't mention the OG 70s Range Rover convertible it was based on
Which I'm pretty confident was one of, if not the very first convertible, luxury offroader, although it did suit it to be fair, certainly much better than the Evoque
Capital-Nature-272@reddit
Abomination? Gtfo. It is a cool car for the ladies
Temporary_Shirt_6236@reddit
Ah, the Murano Cross Cab. I'd forgotten all about that thing.
single-overheadcam@reddit (OP)
Lol exactly
Bernard_PT@reddit
Trust me, they used this as market analysis
xNOOPSx@reddit
4 door is really stupid.
2 door is stupid, but would probably sell.
single-overheadcam@reddit (OP)
The T-Roc is more common than I was expecting here in Germany.
GarThor_TMK@reddit
I'm in north america, and I kindof want one tbh.
Not with the 1L TSI of course... that'd be ridiculous... gotta have the 2L 4-motion... or maybe even a 2.5L Mazda engine, so it'll be reliable instead of a steaming pile of turds.
Reeybehn@reddit
I agree that better displacement is often more pleasant. But, the 1.0TSI is anything but a steaming pile of turds
GarThor_TMK@reddit
I meant that as a VW product made of paper-mache, rather than a dig at low-displacement engines.
Reeybehn@reddit
Vw 1.0tsi is rock solid though
FWD_to_twin_turbo@reddit
Yes but no, the transmission behind them would have to be up to scratch for sure. A lot of Americans would like eveb their gas savers to not "feel" like it, especially in the south where everyone is trying to do 75-90mph (120kph -140kph) all the time. Small engines dont see as much benefits at those speeds.
And yes i know the Autobahn exists but unlike in Europe, in the USA you can be doing 75mph for hundreds of miles, instead of for a small stretch.
Reeybehn@reddit
There is highways everywhere in Europe. Not just Germanys autobahn 😂 you can drive hundreds or thousands of kilometres here too at those same speeds. Americans think their use cases are so wildly different but they’re really not. Y’all are just wasting hell of a lot of petrol in your too big cars for no real reason let’s be honest.
Frosty_Ingenuity5070@reddit
I mean, sure, but the avg European thinks 20 miles is a lot whereas I can easily do 100+ mile round trip in a day for fun.
His point stands: we travel tremendous distances and having a smaller engine just won’t feel right.
Reeybehn@reddit
But that’s not objectively based on anything. It won’t “feel right” because of your conditioning. Not because of anything factual
Frosty_Ingenuity5070@reddit
I mean, if it takes me 8 seconds to get to 60 whilst the erectile dysfunction Ram special is barreling towards me then it will certainly not feel right
Reeybehn@reddit
It’s not like displacement is directly related to horsepower though. Well classically of course, but not with charged engines
GarThor_TMK@reddit
I'd like to point out that there's a difference between a German made German car, and an American made German car.
American made German cars are made of paper mache, while German made German cars are apparently actually good.
Idiotdude69420@reddit
I’d kill for a TDI version in the states ma
zeissikon@reddit
If I am not mistaken the cabrio t roc is only available with the 1.5 tsi. My Volkswagen dealership often leans me one , full optioned, as a replacement car ; I guess they can easily rent it for weekends but not sell it . It is a fun car to drive with the top down and sports mode .
NashBotchedWalking@reddit
For years it has been oneof if not the best selling cars in the country
BigFatModeraterFupa@reddit
why is 4 door stupid? I assume it's because the structural integrity of the car wouldn't be able to handle it?
and damn, now that I think about it, there are no 4-door convertibles ever?
It's gotta be structural integrity right? Otherwise a 4 door drop top would be amazing!
Bierschiss90125@reddit
I believe there was a Lincoln 4 door convertible, but yeah it's mostly not worth the hassle
BigFatModeraterFupa@reddit
just looked it up, godDAMNN that car looks so badass. but i can't find any images of a 4 door convertible version
xNOOPSx@reddit
You have no structural elements between the wheelwells except for the floorpan. It's a bad idea for FWD. For A/RWD, with any torque, you'll pretzel the frame.
I think the only production 4-door convertible was the 60s Lincoln Continental. It also featured suicide doors.
trunxzNG@reddit
What a turd
AddressRadiant8768@reddit
Convertible SUVs just sound like a lawsuit waiting to happen in Chicago winters.
Stren509@reddit
Looks like a 5/4 scale Mini
joemike@reddit
Isn’t that what minis already are though?
aquatone61@reddit
Everybody forget about the Eos?
Capital-Nature-272@reddit
Got nothing to do in this discussion. Not a SUV cabrio
t-mille@reddit
Close enough, welcome back Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet
snt271@reddit
I'm ngl Porsche would sell tons of those in SoCal alone
wankelberry_6666@reddit
VW group are laziest bastards when comes to innovation same beige dull cars for last 40 years 😩
The-Shockmaster@reddit
The local priest has, he's 50 and looks incredibly stupid in it
SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS@reddit
The Range Rover Velar convertible also exists and is basically the same thing.
