This guy is so fucking stupid.
ArekusandaMagni@reddit
As a person who spent the first 18 years of my life on military bases, this is a terrible idea. Domestic violence and homicide was already so common. I remember caution tape at the playground as a kid because marine killed his wife. There was a good reason for service members not having firearms on base.
BlinkReanimated@reddit
Yep, even in Canada this shit wasn't uncommon. Military members often deal with mental health issues that need decades of counselling. Some of my earliest memories are of the house right behind ours, it was boarded up the whole two years I lived there because the husband/father decided to murder his entire family.
I remember in my teens, I asked my dad why I'd never seen his gun, and he just told me there was no good reason to ever bring it home. He was right.
FursonaNonGrata@reddit
Homicide is VERY common on post. Or people just go missing. Especially from bases where they keep the spec ops nutjobs. Bragg murder swamp.
dahpizza@reddit
Suicides about to skyrocket. Service members do not need guns on base. What would they even protect themselves against in a gated, controlled entry, and gaurded military base?
This is just some 2nd amendment jerk off material to distract from how fucking dumb this war is
Tome_Bombadil@reddit
Now gate guards are gonna let a whole ton of armed guys clear to the second cordon, and a whole lot of shit that warrants multiple security zones just became massively less secure.
There is NO positive, beneficial side to this order.

Story of this administration
ALittleEtomidate@reddit
My husband said that he thinks that this is directly related to Hegseth wanting to carry his own weapons on base, and I have to agree with that theory.
pinkeyefromfart@reddit
I have a buddy at the state department who I’m in touch with regularly. He claims that they’ve received official cables (whatever the fuck that means) that Hegseth and other members of the administration are essentially in hiding due to drones harassing them everywhere they go. They are legitimately being targeted. We don’t know by who. I believe Hegseth is actually now full time residing at a military base now.
No-Definition1474@reddit
Whoa what, this is huge news.
Not-a-POS@reddit
If this is the case, it sounds like someone is paranoid.
h3alb0t@reddit
so for shooting the drones? obviously they don't care about procedure, why bother letting everyone else carry firearms? seems like an easily avoidable lose lose situation.

All those pictures of Patton with a pistol on his hip. Kegseth wants that so bad. Hard-ass warfighter armed at all times
I_am_BrokenCog@reddit
being to stupid to realize Patton wore that pistol in a combat zone. Not at the Officer Club in a Maryland Army base.
Commercial-Fig3142@reddit
He sees himself as the proverbial "good guy with a gun" who's going to stand on business when the shit goes down.
🥴
Creepy-Cantaloupe951@reddit
This likely also allows storing your firearms in post housing, which is a plus, as well.
92Regret@reddit
You already can at any base I’ve been to. You just have to register them with the PMO.
Creepy-Cantaloupe951@reddit
This must be relatively new. When I served, it was "register, and store at PMO armory, or your unit armory."
No-Association-8539@reddit
Someone wanting to commit suicide isn't waiting for the policy to change so they can bring their personal weapon on base. What this does change, is the duty and MP's interactions with drunken barracks shenanigans which now may be armed drunken barracks shenanigans.
Ghost-George@reddit
Are they waiting for this no, but having easy access to a firearm increases the likelihood.
CautionarySnail@reddit
I suspect this is by design. “Suicides” and disappearances will also go up; this may be a way for non-loyalists, non-supremasists to vanish.

I completely agree this is some bullshit just for Hegseth to seem manly. Or whatever the fuck it is he keeps trying to play at.
We all know he's shit compared to actual officers that could have been chosen.
That said...
People who live off post.
Military bases aren't usually known for having the greatest of neighborhoods nearby.
So those who live off post actually could need a weapon to protect themselves or their family.
Bad neighborhoods.
And to be able to go on and off post constantly you'd want your weapon with you.
It's about as simple as that. If they don't allow you your weapon, they will do what they already do, bring it on post illegally.
Because there is no way to lock it up in the arm's room every single time, it is literally impossible.
RichestTeaPossible@reddit
They would need to protect themselves from other soldiers with guns.

DOGE_ME_DADDY@reddit
I've worked with plenty of them. 85% of them are roided out alcoholics who have kids with random women they barely see, IQ similar to the temperature on my first floor bathroom, and usually an animal of some sort that their friends watch while they are away.
Other 15%? Solid guys who got out and didn't let the system turn them into a shell.
Unique_Statement7811@reddit
I dispute the low IQ part. Green Berets are required to speak multiple languages and achieve high aptitude standards during testing and selection.
Vegetable_Bank4981@reddit
The majority of humans speak multiple languages, it doesn’t take any particular aptitude or intelligence.
Anyway Green Berets are one of the smallest special ops groups and their focus is more on training and advising far right militias than it is kidnapping and assassinating people like eg the seals or delta so of course they have different backgrounds.
Unique_Statement7811@reddit
The majority of humans do not speak multiple languages.
Almost all special operations career fields require a GT score of 110.
Vegetable_Bank4981@reddit
Yes sergeant!
Unique_Statement7811@reddit
Lumping the SEALS in with delta is insane. SEALS are underwater demolition experts and maritime special reconnaissance.

GTCapone@reddit
No no, it's a wonderful idea to encourage the guys who often pop hot for stimulants and who invented the practice of "canoeing" to daily carry on post. It's the only way to keep our service members safe!
paledave@reddit
I just wandered in from r/all. Probably going to regret asking but what is "canoeing"?
chaveto@reddit
Many pieces of slang in “operator culture” unfortunately are quite literal and usually refer to the shape or appearance of a grievous wound known to be inflicted in the course of duty during such operations.
A high enough caliber sniper round, when it lands at just the right spot on the human head, causes the skull to essentially explode and cavitate in a manner than makes it resemble the hull of a canoe.
It’s fucked up but hey, you asked.
GTCapone@reddit
Oh they don't just do it with sniper rifles. They were getting in trouble because they were using their sidearms to do it to desecrate enemy corpses. Their command got pissed because it was making identification nearly impossible.
chaveto@reddit
Ah. Thats retarded even for jarheads. Thanks for the history lesson!
GTCapone@reddit
Oh, this wasn't even MARSOC, these guys were SEALs.
They also have a habit of stealing anything they can, taking "trophies" from kills, and murdering other US soldiers.
Thankfully I mostly worked with JTAC, TACP and para rescue. Those guys were alright, they get selected partly for social skills so they're usually pretty chill. The crazies get filtered out pretty quick because nobody likes to work with them. They were usually just the nice kind of frat bro that just wanted to grill, play hakisack, and go scuba diving.
chaveto@reddit
Still bothers me at a deep level that we have specific homes for psychopaths in the armed services.
GTCapone@reddit
Just one of the many reasons I became a CO and was retired early.
chaveto@reddit
Certainly get that. My grandfather was USMC during the Korean War and he basically slammed the door in the recruiters face when my father was going to enlist. He ended up going the LEO route instead and he was much better off for it. Just retired last year with full pension!
GTCapone@reddit
Yeah I'm a teacher now and I'm honestly not sure how I'd respond if recruiters showed up at our school. Luckily it's middle school so they don't come around.

You know what they say... The only defense against a bad service member on drugs is an armed service member on more drugs. Or we should arm the teachers? Fuck it. Guns for everyone!

No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
And this happened when they weren’t supposed to have the guns. When are people going to learn that when bad people want to do bad things, they generally aren’t concerned with “following the rules/law” while doing the bad things?
Bad guys are armed regardless of what the law says. All these laws do is disarm the people who follow the law, which is entirely counterproductive and nonsensical considering the goal of said laws.
idosillythings@reddit
That's always been a really bad argument. By your logic we shouldn't outlaw murder. The people who do it are just going to do it anyway regardless of the law. All we're doing is making it harder on people who accidentally kill someone and have to be investigated for it.
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
That’s not a logical follow on at all. Murder is a crime on its face. It’s illegal so that we have the means to prosecute them. Illegal weapons carrying is a law only because we administratively make it one, because we think it’s helping prevent the real crimes. The problem is, it isn’t. Look at any deep blue large city (oh, hey, it’s almost all the large cities). Strict gun laws, and high gun violence rates. It doesn’t work.
idosillythings@reddit
Killing peoyid not a crime on its face. We have defined the specifics of what makes it so.
Strict gun laws seem to work perfectly fine in countries that don't have populations of highly armed people.
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
That is incorrect. There is no government on earth (that I’m aware of) that doesn’t recognize unjustified killing (murder) as inherently morally wrong.
idosillythings@reddit
What you're attempting to do is argue for objective morals. As I said, killing people is not wrong on the face of it according to the law, as you said, we've had to catagorize it. That's why a soldier can be sent to another country and kill many people defending their homeland and be called a hero by the government that sent him there, but is called a murderer by the ones he's fighting.
As to your question, it seems like you're imagining places in the U.S. with strict gun laws as bubbles, unaffected by the distribution and availability of guns outside of them.
Chigaco has strict gun laws. It's also near a state, Indiana, that has extremely loose gun laws. People can simply leave Chicago, buy their guns in Indiana and then go back to Chicago.
Secondly, again, the U.S. has hundreds of millions of guns available in both legal and illegal markets. Because the country as a whole has not clamped down on guns, those guns proliferate making it easier for people to buy guns illegally, even in cities with strict gun laws.
Think of it like this:
There's a little floating town where a bunch of fisherman live. That village is surrounded by a bunch of other fishing villages. These fishing villages are obviously filled with fishing rods. One day one of the villages says "we don't like fishing rods, to many people are using them to hit kids with, so we're making it a lot harder to get fishing rods."
Obviously, the number of fishing rods in the village already makes that difficult. This also immediately creates a market for illegal fishing rods in the town and because all the other towns have tons of fishing rods, there's an endless supply of them coming in on that illegal market, and they aren't even all that expensive as the supply is so high compared to the demand.
Singling out a single city, surrounded by a whole country that doesn't follow the same strict laws as that is a real straw man in the argument of saying strict gun laws don't work.
Again, if they're so ineffective, why are the actually so effective in places like France or England?
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
The primary point I’ll address right now is the Chicago and Indiana example you gave. Looser gun laws in Indiana are not the problem. Going out of your home state to buy a gun and then bringing it home is already against federal law. People that do this are criminals. It’s already prohibited by federal law, and an FFL in Indiana cannot sell directly to a Chicago resident. It would be required to be transferred to a Chicago (or Illinois) based FFL as an intermediary. So, Indiana law is not the issue - criminals doing criminal things despite the law are the issue.
idosillythings@reddit
The fact that guns often find their way from loose law states into cities and states with stricter laws has literally been studied and proven.
https://www.bu.edu/sph/news/articles/2018/guns-used-in-cross-border-crimes-originate-from-states-with-more-lax-laws/
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
Oh, yes they find a way. Who finds the way? CRIMINALS. Who doesn’t? Law abiding citizens.
And guess what? Private sales are allowed in Chicago also, by federal law anyway. Chicago may restrict it, but I’ll give you one guess what group of people do it anyway and which group doesn’t…
I appreciate the discussion, but I simply do no agree. Criminals aren’t going to stop buying guns illegally just because we make more and more laws making it more and more illegal.
The correlation internationally between strict gun laws and lower crime is also not nearly as strong as you think it is. For every example of somewhere it (arguably) works, there’s another example where it doesn’t work at all.
South Africa? Strict gun laws, high violent crime. Venezuela? Hand guns prohibited outright, high violent crime. Mexico? Stricter than here, and the country is basically governed by cartels and the murder rates are insane. There is much more to the story than just the gun laws, or in other words, correlation is not causation.
idosillythings@reddit
You seem to almost intentionally be missing the point.
Why do you think it's so easy for criminals to buy guns in the U.S.?
Because there are a ton of them available and they can go to states with loose laws and get them.
"BuT tHat MakEs tHem CrIminals!"
Yes. Just like people who make meth are also criminals. Just like people who sexually assault people are criminals. No one is suggesting a law will totally stop someone from committing a crime.
But when you put restrictions in place that make it harder to do, the number of criminals decrease.
Again, I ask you, and I will keep asking you until you answer it:
If strict gun laws are so ineffective, why are they seemingly so effective in places like Australia and Europe?
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
If strict gun laws are so effective, why are Venezuela and South Africa such violent shitholes?
You are correct, laws should make it harder to commit crimes. That doesn’t mean they work and actually accomplish that. You brought up drugs, great point. How’d that war on drugs go? How’s it still going? Is meth being “illegal” doing much to fix the problem? Even though it is universally and unequivocally illegal in all 50 states?
And talk about missing the point… no, per federal law, the can NOT just go to another state to get them. per the law. So, how much good does that law do in your opinion if they are, as you contend, doing exactly that anyway? WH is that law actually deterring?
Ask as much as you want. Just because you don’t like an answer doesn’t mean it isn’t the answer.
idosillythings@reddit
It's not that I don't like the answer, you haven't given one.
If stricter gun laws are so ineffective, why are they seemingly so effective in places like Australia and Europe?
User95409@reddit
Most murderers don’t go around wanting to murder each day and one day follow thru. They have a gun and think they responsible gun owner and all that then dudes wife is banging his drill sergeant or a death of a friend in combat triggers them one day and they have easy access to a firearm bcuz it’s legal and bam! The number of homicide events increase on military bases
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
Perhaps, but in those fit of rage moments they already have relatively easy access to firearms and little regard for the consequences of taking and using them.
User95409@reddit
The cops at that elementary school shooting didn’t stop him, what was it euvlad elementary or something in Texas I believe. If a street boss in London sold local criminals knives and the local civilians felt unsafe bcuz stabbing went up would it be a good idea for local civilians to go buy knives from that street boss? Do you truly believe that would lower the number of casualties? Now replace the street boss with NRA and knife with gun. It’s very rare for someone to intervene with a gun and save lives. It would be much more effective to make the supply harder to obtain. But now with that said, after recent federal govt actions against our ppl, maybe decreasing the supply would not be advised. But if we did, it would be more effective than increasing it. Also what about the high suicide rate amongst soldiers, wouldn’t this not help with that? Bet the real reason Hegseth wants guns around is to help eliminate someone they have to pay benefits for.
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
Uvalde. And those cops were a disgrace to their oaths and uniforms. Fuck those guys, and no I won’t base my opinion on these laws even based on the example of a handful of cowardly pieces of shit.
Would it be wise for the civilians to go buy knives too, and would it lower casualties? Yes, it would be wise. Would it lower casualties? Overall, idk, but it would certainly shift some of those casualties over to the gangs. That’s a win, fuck violent criminals.
Yes it’s rare. Why do you think it’s rare? Do you think it’s because there’s people with guns there watching someone get taped or stabbed or shot, and they just don’t intervene?or, maybe, just maybe it’s because good people follow the law in these blue cities and don’t have a gun to stop the crime, or even if they do, you’ve created such an anti gun environment that people have to worry about spending their lives in jail for intervening and shooting an armed robber or whatever other violent criminal? It’s rare because you’ve made it rare with your bullshit restrictions. The restrictions that should’ve stopped the criminal in the first place, but of course didnt.
And if your suggestion now, at long last revealing where you’re coming from, is that we need the guns after all maybe because “Trump bad”…. Like, just fuck off. If you didn’t need them to protect your wife and kids from violent criminals, and just relied on the law and other people to do that work for you, then no you don’t get to change your mind because you vote blue and red won the last election. If the current government is so bad, then you can rely on the law to fix that too. Because if there is an actual problem, the laws are effective… right? Or are you suggesting the we just need to trust laws to protect our families, but when it comes to politics all bets are off and laws aren’t going to get the job done? No thanks, hard pass.
And, it’s to increase suicides and murders in order to decrease benefit payouts? Do you hear yourself? Seriously?

itsavibe-@reddit
They should let the troops smoke weed and no more alcohol. Alcohol legit makes people lose their fuckin mind becoming ultra aggressive (overconfident) whereas weed can give them the buzz they’re searching for while chilling them tf out.
adoradear@reddit
I see you’ve never met someone with cannabis induced psychosis. I’m an emergency doctor. I see them every day and they are dangerously paranoid.
Recover-Signal@reddit
Im not saying it’s not possible. But are these psychosis instances where they were only on weed, or were they on other drugs and alcohol, in addition to the weed. I’ve never seen anyone go out, smoke a joint, and then go home and beat their wife and kids. The same cannot be said for alcohol.
I think the poster above is looking at the lesser of two evils. This is also why weed Gummies might be a bad idea. It’s a lot easier to consume high levels of THC in the gummy’s than it is if you have to smoke it.
adoradear@reddit
Nope. Cannabis only. And it’s not just when they’re high. They become psychotic and require long term detox (while on antipsychotics), and whenever they relapse they end up back in the ED psychotic and locked in the psych ward. Some of them never recover and are functionally schizophrenic. People like to pretend that cannabis can’t be harmful, but it’s a psychoactive substance. It’s going to have side effects and adverse reactions. Some people are going to be adversely affected, and some of them will even have their lives/brains destroyed. Even water will kill you if you drink too much of it at once.
Short-Recording587@reddit
Just to be clear, you’re a MD and believe THC destroys people’s brains?

Jfc reaching much? Strawman arguments are so tiring. I’m an MD who is aware of (both in the literature and by personally witnessing) cannabis induced psychosis. Cannabis can cause psychosis. Key word there is can.

Anyway, no I haven’t. I met way more people that destroyed things and relationships after drinking though…. Every weekend! No emergency room needed… just see them at the bar. You probably also see them at the drunk tank in the hospital…. So?
adoradear@reddit
That’s nice that you haven’t. I hope you don’t. But just because you haven’t doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I’ve never known a drunk person who went home and beat his wife and children (because I don’t hang out with assholes) but I know they exist.
We don’t have a drunk tank at the hospital btw. That’s jail you’re thinking of. We do have a locked psych area. The drunk people don’t end up there. But the psychotic people do. And a decent amount of them are cannabis induced. It’s second only to meth in inducing psychosis.

Not to mention, the bases already have armed guards at the ready. I never questioned not being able to have a fire arm because I mean the base is already secured. Made sense to me
jazzbiscuit@reddit
It's not like there aren't already personal firearms on base - many installations already permit you to keep firearms in your house if you live in base housing & people who live in the barracks have to store them in whatever secure storage facility the base dictates, but you can get them out pretty much whenever. I lived in base housing - legally kept several weapons there. I also worked in the armory and issued personal weapons to their owners. The guns are there - people just weren't allowed to carry them around randomly.
GreenSmokeRing@reddit
To be clear, service members in base housing - typically NCOs and higher - have been allowed to keep private firearms in their quarters.
This latest bit of Kegsbreath stupidity would seem to allow troops to carry personal firearms on base when off duty. It will result in increased domestic shootings and accidents.
I’m still not clear on whether troops who live in barracks- typically more junior ranking - are included. That would be monumentally dumb.
GodHatesColdplay@reddit
I live in Norfolk. We are happy to be around nearly 100k enlisted. We are also home to the kinds of things that can go wrong with young (mostly) men in the military. I can't imagine what the naval base leadership is thinking right now

On base housings already allow you to store personal firearms, this just let's you actually carry it, and service members off base can also already, your reasoning makes no sense.

So there I just past the northern Texas border heading north, driving with a buddy of mine in a different vehicle. We left out of Ft. Hood at midnight to avoid as much traffic as possible. It was all going pretty great. We both made E5 Sergeant at the same time and managed to get orders for Ft. Drum, so we convoyed together. We had pretty much just crossed into Arkansas when I get a phone call from my barracks roommate. It was a weirdly timed call because that was supposed to be PT time so I figured it was important. I radioed my friend and we both pulled over and I took the call. I remember at the moment thinking "Oh god dammit what did I forget?"
"Dude did you get off post?"
"Yea why?"
"Someone's shooting the place up, we're all in lockdown"
"Holy shit..."
It blew my mind because the building that was being shot up was one that our whole unit had just gone through because we'd all recently got back from Iraq. And, at least 2 of our guys were actually at that building during the shooting. I think they both survived, but the casualty list was still pretty unbelievable.
Anywho, I'm sure this will all play out just fine.

Something a lot of folks don't realize is that the overwhelming majority of folks in the military do not carry firearms as a part of their regular duties, and so many of them do not receive adequate training. Obviously this varies by base, but your medical squadron, maintainers, admin, logistics, etc. folks are usually about as knowledgeable with a weapon as your average civilian. After seeing how folks from these non-combat arms jobs handle weapons on a flat range, I don't know how great I feel about encouraging them to pack a pistol in the commissary.
mightylordredbeard@reddit
As a marine veteran; I would never want marines being able to carry guns around on base. They’re idiots. We drink too much, we’re too violent, and we’re ate up with ptsd. I guarantee the suicide and murder rates are going to skyrocket because of this.
McRibs2024@reddit
I was just thinking that. We had bars we weren’t allowed to go to because of the fights that would break out between cav/infantry. I could easily see those being shootings.
I wonder if individual unit commanders could not allow their guys to carry. Probably not since this is coming from Hegseth though
Creepy-Cantaloupe951@reddit
Conversely, I'm actually supportive of this. It was quite irritating when I lived in post housing to have to store my hunting rifles off post with a friend, or with the provost, as my unit armory would store, and also wouldn't be able to open the armory just to get my personal rifle.
Menethea@reddit
I am sure the MPs / SPs are just absolutely thrilled /s. Btw, where exactly does it say in the Bible that carrying a weapon is a “God-given right” Pete?

pwnt_n00b@reddit
As a person that's spent the last 18 years either active duty or working as a civ, I'm confused. You can certainly have guns on base. I lived in base housing and was not required to store my firearms in the armory. I DID have to document each with security forces, keep them in a locked container, and declare + show my card when coming on base from the range.
Base workers (military, civilians, and contractors) can also get approval from the wing/base CC to carry on base, you just need to store it. No active carry though.
gaydognova@reddit

Darryl_Lict@reddit
As a person who has never been in the military this is a terrible idea. Like pretty much all Kegsbreath's ideas.
ConstableAssButt@reddit
Bro, we can't not kill ourselves / each other with cars and motorcycles. Allowing servicemen unregulated access to firearms on base is a surefire way to kill a LOT of blues.
Secondly, what does "off duty" even mean in the context of active duty military? When I was in, the word got said a lot, but it doesn't actually mean much.
LethallyBearded@reddit
What do you mean? We already had the ability to carry weapons on base. Just have it unloaded in the trunk with weapon and ammo separate. This isn’t anything new.

It did, and they even made the logo a riff on onlyfans. And Trump loved the gold plated tractor, blabbering on about how he loves gold. Not following normal processes and protocols and rules defines this administration.

ThaBigClemShady24@reddit
Or add an Atlantic reporter to the chat in the process and then nobody suffers any consequences for major breaches of OPSEC lol
cyanescens_burn@reddit
Stuff like that will make it nearly impossible to figure out what they did, how, and why if there’s ever a new administration in charge.
In the past presidents recorded all conversations in the Oval Office (and likely other key places), all emails were saved, and I’m guessing other communications were catalogued.
Now, they appear to be avoiding that kind of record keeping intentionally. And I’d guess informed citizens have to be asking themselves why that is happening.

You’re absolutely delusional if you think the SAVE act is designed to keep women from voting. Absolutely delusional.
LinwoodKei@reddit
Haha, okay let's check back in a year. I bet I'm right
The_horse_herd@reddit
i wouldnt be apposed to the save act if it wasnt a poll tax, disenfranchised married women, banned a easier voting method (that is the most votes cast by BOTH sides), disenfranchised city folk.
if you want a ID for voting you have to make it 1. free 2. very easy (on the person getting it) to obtain and 3. make it quick to obtain.
but the save act does NONE of these and only makes voting harder
mworthey@reddit
In the fine print of the Save Act states will have to turn over their voting rolls to the feds. This is far more important than the poll tax issue and I am totally shocked that the Dems aren't talking about this. I guarantee they would have more support if they focused on that one point. Hell, most politicians rarely read the fine print in the bills that they either oppose or support.
SuccessWise9593@reddit
I hope you're being sarcastic, since the SAVE Act will require state voting rolls to be sent into a federal database, then they can purge voters off the voting rolls and not infrom you that you are no longer able to vote.

mworthey@reddit
No, Pirates is most definitely the correct term. They certainly have no clue how to actually run a government however looting and pillaging was always at the forefront of their agenda. What's happening now will go down ad the greatest transfer of wealth in the history of America. Their goals and plans have been clearly laid in Project 2025. It's a shame that most folks still haven't even bothered to thumb through it. This Administration was nearly halfway through Project 2025 agenda in the first six months of Trump's Presidency. The current state of America is some where between a delicate balancing act or a k-shaped period of stress and the precipice of an imminent total collapse. I am afraid that we may have already reached the point of no return.

How in the world is this a violation of opsec? Announcing a new policy that applies service wide, non-specific to any operation, and is unclassified? What operation or what even facet of military life is harmed by this?
At the core, the basic job of every service member is to be able to use a firearm effectively and appropriately, in high stress environments. Offensively, yes, but also defensively to protect themselves, their unit and equipment, installations, around civilians home and abroad, with little or no direct supervision in many cases.
TheHumanoidTyphoon69@reddit

He also just fired a few 4star and 2star generals today too. Imo, so theyre not witness to the bafoonery (and the false flag) that's coming soon. Theres a reason these cabinet members were picked. They think its bc they possess some "special" skill. No. Even they're being played. Its bc theyre deeply flawed and able to be controlled and blackmailed easier, and also NOT possess any actual skin in this game, as they're not really law makers or seasoned political figures. Theyre literal fall-guys, who will find that out sooner or later.
It'll allow those who remain to investigate any and all service men and women who may have opposing views. To "catch it before it happens".It'll push us further into this surveillance state they've expressed that they want. I dont know though, if pissing off your military will work out the best. I guess that's why they have I CE (and possibly the I DF) for. But is that enough? It'll create a massive support for our military again. So there's multiple reasons for them. I mean they DO have over 211ish I CE detention centers (with built-in incinerators) to be filled and put to use. 😮💨

Jimmy fucking Carter (best pres we had since Abe) had one on the program of his service. There’s enough stuff to hate this dumbass for, but the tattoos arnt one of them.
theNamelessDave@reddit
The Arabic tattoo on his arm is the word kaafir, which means infidel. Best case scenario, he fancies himself a modern day crusader.
But fun fact: in Islamic eschatology, there is an end-times figure called the deceitful messiah. He is meant to arise, gain a large following especially among the Jewish people, and wage war on the faithful, ending in a final battle of good vs evil over the city of Jerusalem, where he will be defeated by Jesus (yes, THAT Jesus). He is to be recognized by being stamped with the word kaafir.
Imagine hating a group of people so much that you cast yourself as a crusader and their literal antichrist. Imagine if the Iranian premier hated Christianity so much that they tattooed "666" on their body. But yeah, there's nothing wrong with his tattoos.
EquivalentApart731@reddit

The god of the OT is a straight up bully. Completely cruel and immature. And Jesus wasn't so great either, he never denounced how his father behaved, called everyone sinners, threw a temper tantrum when a fig tree didn't bear him fruit (when it was out of season no less!), and called gentiles "dogs". You can choose to focus on the horrible things and be Christian or you can choose the nicer things and be Christian (like the last two popes who are about helping the poor and stopping wars) and be Christian.

Why? It’s for active duty service members, not everyone. Those members can already carry guns on duty if needed, and could just as easily wreak havoc if they wanted to. I mean, I see how maybe the risk is elevated, but not that much. I’d be shocked if they don’t need to qualify, be approved, and register, still will be off limits areas, etc. Think Cali gun laws on steroids - many “constitutional rights” either don’t apply or are heavily reduced for active service members, and this shouldn’t be any different.

Mitch_Hunt@reddit
I don’t see the issue. Many times I’m in the area in my POV and have business on post and can’t legally go on while carrying. This is something that should have been a thing many years ago. Many of us handle weapons every single day and have for many years as the basis of our livelihood (both pay and staying alive).
Those that argue the whole PTSD, substance abuse, DV, etc. it’s going to happen regardless.
It is no different than no gun zones in schools, federal buildings, etc. Only the law abiding citizen with no evil intent follows those rules. If you allow it to be more open, you are no longer a “soft target.” I believe it to be a very simple reasoning that most people overlook.
nocommentjustlooking@reddit

Anything in response to this?
Mitch_Hunt@reddit
Congratulations on finding a list of recent shootings?
nocommentjustlooking@reddit
Do you think banning weapons on base just might have lead to less shootings?
Why do YOU think the list of recent shootings is shorter than when weapons were allowed on base?
Also, I used a source that most would agree is unbiased and definitely not “leftist” to help stop the spread of misinformation. If you want more recent ones, I’m happy to provide
Mitch_Hunt@reddit
Shorter than when weapons were allowed on post? There hasn’t been a shooting in the past couple of days; weapons have never been allowed on in that capacity. That’s what I’m saying; it’s like a school zone. It’s already a gun free zone.
nocommentjustlooking@reddit
Technically, it was only made official policy in 1992, before then it was just SOP.
That being said, and the knowledge of past military base shootings, do you think that allowing guns freely on military bases would help decrease the amount of shootings?
Since “gun free zones” in schools have been SOOOO effective in stopping ALL mass school shootings, do you expect the same to happen on military bases? Or is there something magical or special about a military base?
Mitch_Hunt@reddit
I’m kind of confused by your response, I think there’s a miscommunication. Gun free zones don’t work; all that does is make a possible shooter know that they’ll be the only one armed which empowers them to do as much damage as possible.
While it’s possible this policy may deter possible shooters on bases, that’s not my main reason for advocating for it. It’s purely a major hindrance to anyone who lives off base and works on base to not be able to have a personally owned weapon allowed to travel in the vehicle with us. From my understanding, it will not be able to be carried on a persons, rather it can be locked and secured inside a vehicle (very similar to most state laws and how weapons are transported to/from ranges).
nocommentjustlooking@reddit
That whole “gun free zones are targets” has been debunked, it’s a false talking point.
I don’t have a problem with guns on military bases as I don’t travel there, but I still don’t think it’s a good idea. But then again, I only read history, I was not there when soldiers frag their CO’s.
strongman_scrubs@reddit
Easier ability to have gun place mean baddie might use gun in place.
I think that in a well function society this whole “the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” is frankly ridiculous and there’s is no evidence that supports it. Stronger gun laws are associated with less shootings but I digress. I’ve conceded that bringing logic to a debate about the 2A is like bringing logic to a gun fight.
Also at this point gear the fuck up. Get ready to see how capable our populace is able to fight back against a tyrannical government because it’s here baby. Time to nut up or shut up.

That's more for people living in base housing than people living in the barracks. It won't change much. Maybe it'll make it more convenient for people leaving and coming back on base or people doing things around the base exchange, commissary and recreational areas or wanting to go to the range during their free time. Most people want to be hampered with carrying a weapon while off duty.

flaginorout@reddit
You're more likely to drown in a toilet than to be a victim of a violent crime on a military installation.
ComprehendReading@reddit
Women are more susceptible to violence on a military installation.
Unique_Statement7811@reddit
Not actually true. Sexual assault rates in the military are lower than those of four year public universities. One of the most dangerous places for women is on a college campus.
ComprehendReading@reddit
I never mentioned sexual assaults. Maybe sexual assaults on base are less reported, because of the implications, where as sexual assault in the real world is treated with professional attention and disregard for the consequences of servicemembers?
Unique_Statement7811@reddit
The sexual assault reporting apparatus is MUCH stronger in the military than civilian sector. You have victims advocates at every echelon with a ratio of about 1:50 Soldiers. There are protection regulations for reporters against reprisal and every officer and noncommissioned officer is a mandatory reporter. Sexual harassment is criminal (unlike in the civilian world) and sexual assault carries harsh penalties.
The military recognized it had a serious issue in the early 00s and spent billion to create programs and train personnel not only reduce the frequency, but help.
Fun_Incident1902@reddit
Sexual assaults are less likely in the military than in the general population. However, the goal is 0 sexual assaults, so a lot of training happens towards that goal.
ComprehendReading@reddit
I never mentioned sexual assaults.
Do you know something I don't about reported crimes on base?
Fun_Incident1902@reddit
Please specify the type of violence and I'll show you the stats. The violence should be 0, but it's still less than in the general population.
flaginorout@reddit
And even then, it's exceedingly rare for a woman to be murdered or robbed on a military installation. Domestic violence isn't all that rare though. Now they're will be a gun in the mix. So we'll see how that plays out.
ComprehendReading@reddit
Including the firearm just increases the rate of capture for murders using a firearm.
Violence against women is still higher on federal installations compared to populations of similar size than their neighboring communities.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
This is unbelievably false, unfortunately
DankyCinnablunts@reddit
While I mostly agree, I grew up on a military base and have seen some crazy shit happen on base.
There was that guy who shot a woman five times, then himself, at the PX.
Plenty of soldiers who drank too much and fought each other out of anger.
I've known of soldiers who raped other soldiers, other soldiers wives, and even other soldiers kids. Kids I went to school with.
Don't forget Tim Hennis. He was my Scout Master at the time of his final arrest. There was a shed (at the Scout Hut) that was converted into two sheds and he put his own lock on one of them, later on they found the cache of illegal weapons that was being kept inside, next to all the camping equipment. While this wasn't inherently violent, this was like 20 years after his initial arrest for murdering his family.

We have a SecDef stating the 2nd amendment is a "god given right".
This alone should be enough to be removed from their position. It is factually inaccurate and spits in the face of every person that is not religious or believes in a different religion. This narrative should have no place in public office.
The right to bear arms is given by the U.S. constitution, and from nothing else.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
If your problem is religious language in general, recognize that we “are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights”… and that there is a very easy argument to be made that life & liberty require the 2nd amendment… “being necessary to the security of a free State”
Be mad at the founding fathers lol, this isn’t a Hegseth thing and it has literally always “had a place in public office”
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
I have no problems with religious language in general, and I want everyone to feel comfortable practicing whatever religion they want. But I don't want our SecDef saying something that is 100% inaccurate and imposing his religious views on others.
The Declaration of Independence (which you referenced) is just that...a Declaration of Independence. Our laws are determined by the Constitution, a completely different document. The Constitution does not once reference God or a creator.
Our forefathers also used very precise language signifying ambiguity around religion because our country is in fact a secular country much to the dismay of those that would like to control or influence other people's beliefs.
If you think the founding fathers were trying to make the US a Christian nation, you really need to educate yourself. In fact the main contributor to the Declaration of Independence (Thomas Jefferson) rejected the divinity and a staunch supporter of separation of church and state.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
Lol he’s literally using the same language as Jefferson 🤷🏻♂️ take it up with them
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
Yes, again, this is in the Declaration of Independence, not the document that establishes our nation's laws. I know it's a lot for you to comprehend the difference.
And again, the language used is intentionally ambiguous so that it cannot be construed as any one person's "God". Creator can mean anything to different people. It's like the forefathers were prepared for people just like you.
It's interesting that it's only Christians that are this hell bent on the country being Christian and forcing their beliefs down other people's throats. No other religion that is present in the U.S. that believes in a God does this. And they could make the same exact claim as you based on the ambiguity of the language.
You intentionally misrepresent the meaning of the text (which is NOT Christian-like at all) while intentionally ignoring the First Amendment.
The first amendment's establishment clause literally states that the government is prohibited from establishing an official religion or showing preference to any one religion. It also prohibits showing preference to religion over non-religion.
Educate Yourself
brownstormbrewin@reddit
When the forefathers said creator, they were referring to God. God doesn’t mean Christian God, but you are just being dishonest if you think they meant anything other than God. Jefferson saying “endowed by our Creator [capital C] with certain inalienable rights” and Hegseth saying “they’re not given by Governments, but given by God” are literally functionally identical. I don’t even love Hegseth, I think he’s done some good and done some bad. He didn’t mention Christianity any more than Jefferson. This is the same language that has been going on literally since the birth of the nation brother
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
You can say whatever you want, twist language, and continue to lie. But that does not change facts and you've failed to address the first amendment, which again, is what actually governs our laws.
You are exactly what gives Christians a bad look.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
Are you just one here to start fights? He said nothing of Christianity, you are reading what isn’t there.
Founding fathers: we believe the Creator gave us rights that cannot be taken by government, this is our philosophy (declaration). Therefore we make this legal document (constitution) which among other things includes the right to bear arms.
Hegseth: the government doesn’t give rights, God does, this is our philosophy (video declaration). Therefore, we change a legal document (whatever policy id this falls under) to give the right to bear arms (on base).
Nobody said Jesus, Christian, Bible, any of that. It’s literally the same my brother. God bless you !
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
Yet you continue to ignore the First Amendment. Which is what determines everything being discussed.
You're completely disingenuous and it speaks directly to your perspective.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
Let me ask in earnest here. I need you to precisely explain why stating “endowed by the Creator with certain inalienable rights” is okay, and why “these rights weren’t given to us by government, but by God” is not. I will genuinely try to understand your side. I am not sure I will agree with you, but I guess I am actually failing to see what the difference is.
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
You genuinely need to read the First Amendment in its entirety. It clearly states there should be zero preference of religion and removed from government. That is the opposite of what Hegseth just did.
I could care less about what you keep saying regarding the Declaration of Independence. You are misrepresenting that, but it is also completely irrelevant as the Declaration of Independence is not what grants our rights as a country.
I really do think that your biases prevent you from seeing what is obvious.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
I think the same of you man. He literally said the same thing that the founding fathers did. You didn’t explain the difference between the two, which is the one thing I asked of you. “Endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights” vs “we are given our rights by God, not government”. Please, explain the difference. You’re being intentionally obtuse
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
Because we are literally given our legal rights by the Constitution, not God lol. It's not a hard concept.
In some countries there are different gun laws. If God was the purveyor of rights, why are there different rights in different countries? It's not that complicated.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
But he didn’t make any laws that reference God? He mentioned God in a video declaration. Seriously, what is the difference between when the Declaration of Independence references God and the same crowd later goes on to make legislature regarding rights, and when he does the same? What is different? That’s what you fail to explain.
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
Because he is referring to the Christian God. He has literally been firing people in the armed services that don't follow his religion.
And it's not that he said God, it's that he said God gave us the rights, which is not accurate
brownstormbrewin@reddit
So then you must believe that the founding fathers were being inaccurate too, then?
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
How so? Explain how anything I've said remotely stated that.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
“It’s that he said God gave us the rights, which is not accurate”
“Endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights”. Why do you take no problem with that, then?
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
It's pretty simple. What you are saying was written in the declaration of independence which means absolutely nothing as far as where our rights come from. As I've stayed over and over again, our rights in the United States of America are derived from the Constitution, not the Declaration of Independence. The declaration was literally our forefathers telling Great Britain that they were declaring independence.
What pete Hegseth said, literally violated the Constitution. He is a Christian and has been literally firing people that don't follow his specific view of Christianity.
I have no problem theith the fursfsthers language because they were intentionally ambiguous in using creator as an all encompassiny word for all beliefs. Hegseth does not use the word God in that way.
brownstormbrewin@reddit
Lol. The Declaration of Independence, which states where our rights come from is absolutely meaningless. This TikTok where SecDef says our rights come from the same place is a violation. I understand now
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
Yes, it is meaningless as far as our actual rights. It's not where the rights come from. They come from the Bill of Rights lol. Which is the first ten
brownstormbrewin@reddit
56 men signed a declaration that our rights are inalienable and endowed from a creator. If you had a problem with that, then I would understand you having a problem with secdef saying the exact same thing in a video. But you’re just inconsistent, you hate Christianity, which is evidenced by you seeing it everywhere even though it wasn’t even mentioned in the video
Longjumping-Hippo475@reddit
I'm very consistent. You seem to not understand the difference between two different founding documents.
I absolutely do not hate Christianity and greatly value many of the morals that it has inspired.
What I do dislike, is Christians trying to tell me that our country is a Christian country, because that is factually inaccurate and directly disagrees with every our country and it's Constitution stand for.

I'll just repeat the exact same point I make after every base or school shooting where people propose teachers/service members carry at all times:
When someone responds to an active shooter report, the person they're looking to kill is the person with a gun. That's the only identification they care about at that point. Carrying in that environment is a more sure way to get killed than standing and waving hello to the shooter.
Anyone who sees this message and starts carrying on base is too stupid to own a firearm in the first place.
Miserable_Ask3975@reddit
Several public shootings have been stopped by people carrying guns before they reached ‘mass’ status there’s never been an incident where police arrive on scene and confused a lawfully armed Good Samaritan with a the criminal shooter, because by the time the arrived the situation had been resolved for a few minutes at least and the responding citizen was able to resume a non-threatening posture before the police arrive.
However shitty police training isn’t an excuse for people to not carry guns. In the US where roughly 10% of the population is estimated to carry regularly, responding to ‘gun’ is shit training. They should be looking for someone that matches the shooter’a specific description
GTCapone@reddit
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/no-charges-colorado-officer-who-killed-hero-who-stopped-mass-n1283532
Literally the first thing that comes up and there are multiple instances of this happening. The exact scenario I described occurred. A good samaritan retrieved a rifle from his vehicle and killed the shooter. When police arrived they immediately shot and killed him because they assumed he was the killer.
There have also been instances where a civilian tried to engage the shooter and ended up killing other innocent bystanders. In at least one case, the "hero" ended up being the only one to successfully kill someone.
You see, I don't just make this shit up. I've been through active shooter training in the military both as a regular deployer and as a security augmenter. I'm telling you exactly what we get trained to do. You run if you can, hide if you don't know where to run, and fight as a last resort. And you ABSOLUTELY do not want to be armed when first responders show up because they will tell you to your face that anyone with a gun will get shot when they arrive.
Fucking larpers.
Miserable_Ask3975@reddit
So your justification is shitty cops means no guns?
Is it worse for a civilian trying to stop a criminal to shoot by standers than it is for the police?
Again there’s a bunch of examples of people stopping public shootings with a gun and not getting shot.
Police shooting someone isn’t an argument against carrying guns and using them to stop a public shooter because cops shoot unarmed people all the time. It’s not a gun issue it’s a shitty police issue
Boombollie@reddit
I think what they’re saying is that you were talking out of your ass and they shared examples to refute said ass-talking. They also shared lived experience that directly ties into the topic at hand as opposed to what you shared, which is just a shitty hot take.
Also, bearing arms for personal protection is a lot different than trying to act like a fucking hero.
Miserable_Ask3975@reddit
If I’m in a place and there’s a shooting how is shooting the shooter not self protection? Defense of others is also a lawful use of force.
I agree, hearing a shooting a block away and running into the situation would be dumb as fuck.
The argument “well the police will just shoot the good guy” sounds like it’s none of anyone’s business except the guy who pulled his gun to ‘act like a fucking hero’
GTCapone@reddit
You can't seriously be this obstinate. There have been incidents of uniformed police shooting at each other in these situations because of how chaotic it is. Hell, in active combat with trained soldiers, blue on blue casualties happen all the time because you can't make clear sense of who people are. The war in Ukraine has been particularly bad about this because the uniforms of both forces are too similar.
And think about this situation. I show up to the PX and start shooting people. Well. Theret's 8 other armed personnel there and they all draw their firearms. Only one of them actually saw me start firing and he shoots me dead. Now the other seven armed personnel turn to the sound of the last shot fired and see a guy with his weapon drawn and aimed because they just shot me.
Who do those seven people think is the aggressor? Are they even sure there was only one shooter, the most famous active shooter incident involved two shooters. At least one of them will assume the guy that killed me is the active shooter. And these are soldiers used to treating self defense as the only absolute in the ROE. Even if the guy who killed me is sure I was the only shooter, he may react by defending himself. There won't be any de-escalation, from everyone's perspective, they are now in an active firefight.
This has happened before with green on blue attacks. It's an absolutely chaotic disaster. People like you have never experienced the absolute confusion and tunnel vision that occurs in a firefight. Hell, I've only experienced it in training and I still have a better idea of it.
Miserable_Ask3975@reddit
Ok? So again, poor policing is what you lead off with?
People like me? What kind of person am I exactly?
GTCapone@reddit
I just laid out a scenario that didn't involve first responders at all and that's your takeaway.
And people like you are civilians who make broad assumptions about combat based on vibes. That or tacticool larpers who fantasize about the "glory of combat".
Miserable_Ask3975@reddit
I mean veterans are civilians, but typically not call civilians.
You’re just a retard who tries to degrade people who hold different views and opinions.
Tunnel vision can be mitigated through training. It’s that simple, so again the first thing you said was literally citing poor training in cops.
GTCapone@reddit
So you expect the approximately 95% of noncombat personnel to get the hundreds of hours of training required to even have a chance to not panic in a combat situation? They're lucky to get an hour on the range once a year to maintain their qualifications.
And no amount of training prepares you for actual combat. Any combat vet will attest to that.
And no, veterans are not considered civilians. We occupy a grey area. Many are still on IRE status and all of us are still subject to the UCMJ. Go to your local American Legion or VFW and call the folks there civilians, see how long it takes to get laughed out of the building.
Miserable_Ask3975@reddit
Even-Volume5670@reddit
Sounds like they need to better access the situation
GTCapone@reddit
I'm assuming you meant "assess" and that's actually the opposite of how responders are trained to deal with active shooters. They're supposed to go in immediately, even if they're alone, because every second the shooter is active is another chance for them to kill.
And it's even worse on a military base. How are you supposed to get a decent description of the shooter when everyone is wearing the same uniform?
Even-Volume5670@reddit
Yes, assess is what I meant.
They didn't go in immediately at Uvalde, TX. Military personnel aren't always in uniform. And it is the job of the 911 operator and the caller to appropriately describe the situation to the 2nd responders. DV will still happen regardless of this rule and service men and women shouldn't lose their 2nd Amendment rights on base (neither should civilians tho) because of your feelings.
GTCapone@reddit
The police not going in during uvalde was them not following their training because they were cowards.
Active shooter response training tells them that even if they are the only one on scene, they are supposed to immediately enter and attempt to subdue the shooter. It's consistently been demonstrated in AARs that the most important factor in a shooting is time and every second means more victims.
And I'm not talking about my "feelings". I served for 12 years, I've been through the training, I've worked with military police, and I've experienced at least two active shooter lockdowns (thankfully false alarms). I'm responding based on the best practices reported from real incidents.
And if you're talking about "Second Amendment rights on base" then I know you're full of shit and never served.
You sign away many of your constitutional rights when you enlist. Nobody has 1A or 2A rights while on base. If you own any firearms (and even realistic air soft rifles depending on the commander's policy) then you are required to turn them into the armory immediately upon arrival. You can check them out for use if the base has a range open for everyone or if you're gonna take it off base. The only people carrying on post are the security teams and the police. Even a lot of deployed locations don't allow most people to carry if it's not an active combat zone.
Fucking civilian larpers with no concept of actual military life.

If that’s the case you’re trying to make, then IMO nothing you say, literally nothing, has any legitimacy whatsoever and I think you’re a seditious piece of crap. It’s just that simple.
Anyway, here’s a number for you, most recent I heard anyway. About 45,000. The number of their own men, women, children that they murdered in the streets in broad daylight with heavy machine guns for protesting. Yeah, they’re just a swell bunch, how dare we oppose them, right?
Here’s another: 0. The number of official governments of neighboring Islamic countries that don’t want them gone. Where’s the most pressure to get more countries in the fight against Iran coming from? It’s not the U.S., and it’s not Israel, it’s their own neighboring “brother” Islamic countries. What’s that tell you?
Also 0: the probability that they come out on top of this conflict, despite their propaganda campaigns which you are very much a part of.
CackleandGrin@reddit
"I don't know the most basic thing about our conflict with Iran but that won't stop me from wanting to send trillions of dollars of military hardware at them and I don't care how many of our soldiers die to do it. I'll vote to strip the veterans of their benefits, too."

You didn't even read this, did you moron?
You listed ~1000 deaths of US soldiers in the middle east over 50 years to justify why we should send more soldiers to die in the middle east.
You're a special kind of simple! 😆🤣
General-Amount-5577@reddit
Iran government not good but that is not a justification for us to go at war with them. None of our business and anything else is pure cope like what you said.
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
A little lite reading for you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_and_state-sponsored_terrorism
The cup overfloweth with justifications to go to war with Iran for just about every country in the western world (and most of the Middle East now as well).
General-Amount-5577@reddit
Again none of our buisness. How did their past actions affect the average American? Exactly, none at all.
And now since we are at war with them, our economy is tanking because of it. Israel says jump and the US says how high. Fucking cope.
No-Breadfruit-4555@reddit
That is just nonsense. Their first official act was to capture and hold our embassy hostage. They host Al qaeda. Assassination plots abound, with arrests and charges even brought against an IRGC operative for the recent-ish ones on John Bolton and Mike Pompey. Kidnappings. Occasional direct strikes on U.S. military assets, countless strikes on the same via proxies directed and supported via financing, intelligence, manpower, etc. countless cyber attacks against civilian, military, and government targets. And by their own admission, enriching Uranium far beyond the level required for nuclear weapons for the explicit goal of achieving a weapon to bring their fever dream of “death to America” to fruition.
None of our business? The defeat (by any means necessary) of this evil (truly, evil) regime of murderous fanatics has been more than our business since 1979. I say “more” because what it has really been is a responsibility, a DUTY that has been shirked by spineless politicians for decades.
The question isn’t “what business do we have there”? The question is ”what took so fucking long for us to wake the fuck up?.
General-Amount-5577@reddit
Does the average American live in the middle east? Thats what I thought they dont. And its funny how you mention how Iran "hosts" Al Qaeda because that's the same bullshit Bush said during the Iraq invasion so I assume thats bullshit as well (never heard of anyone saying that except you). And "uranium far beyond nuclear weapon" also seems sus. Again similar shit was said before the Iraq Invasion and I still have yet to see any valid evidence. Most likely false as usual. And I would say for us to gtfo out of the middle east all together if you dont want your military assets to be hit because again, its none of our business being there.
Brainwashed people like you assume these countries like Iran hate us for no reason but if you did a small amount of time you would realize that's not the case.
Maybe if we didnt overthrow the elected leader of Iran (Operation Ajax) in the 50s and put in a puppet shah (just to protect American/British interests lmao) we wouldnt have had a hostile Iran currently?
Most of the time a reason why a county hates the US is overwhelmingly due to US imperialism and putting our nose where it shouldn't be (LATAM, Iraq, Afghanistan come to mind).
And this war is no different. Just like Venezuela it wasnt about "drugs" it was its oil. And just like Iran it wasnt about "ballistic missiles or nukes" it was about its oil. Same shit, just imperialism and sucking up to Israel.
But hey you spent trillions of dollars just to lose both Iraq and Afghanistan so I doubt you ever have chance of winning in Iran.

Its not like they do some thorough check of someone's car when you go on post anyway, so if someone really wanted to get on there as a uniformed service member with a weapon to do damage, nothing is really stopping them. The only people the rule is preventing from doing something is the ones who obey it. Hell I haven't been using informed in over a decade and when I go on post they just look at my healthcare ID and I ride right on. Im smart enough to follow the rules and leave the ccw at home though.

Trust has nothing to do with it. It's about accountability and control.
When in a situation which trust MUST be relied on ... such as in the wilds of combat, fratricide becomes quite large. Vietnam is infamous for documentation describing the fratricide of unliked NCO's and platoon leaders.
Look at DUI and other domestic violence on military posts today. Abuse and suicide rates are huge problems.

But… no they won’t. Schools are still gun free zones. The Bs just became not that. And, BTW, when was the last time there was a mass shooting in the barracks? I’ll wait…
GTRogue1@reddit
When I was in we had an MP discharge his service weapon while he was playing Doc Holiday with it in the barracks, and he was on duty and not drunk. It will be so great when a bunch of dumb fucking kids have 24 hour access to firearms and a PX to buy beer.
As a vet, this is dumb fucking idea.

Clearly a lot of people in this thread seem to think this is a bad idea… and many of them say they are vets. Are you a vet?
I guess alternatively, what’s a good reason off duty soldiers should be able to carry their weapons on bases?
Mitch_Hunt@reddit
Correct about waiting for a mass shooting in the barracks. Because it doesn’t happen.
Yes, I’m a vet. Still in, at 18yrs now. So I’ve seen/done a thing or two.
There are multiple reasons why I, as well as others, should be able to bring weapons on post. 1) I have more training and can handle a weapon better than most (including almost every MP, at least all the ones I’ve ever known). 2) I’ve been doing my off-duty thing and get called to do something on base… guess what, I can’t because I’m carrying. I now have to go home, then base. Or, now, I could clear and lock it, store it separate from the ammo and come on base to do what I need to do. 3) We’ve served under the Constitution, we should be afforded the same rights off post as well as on. I’d push to say we should be able to carry as long as not in uniform, not just be able to bring weapons on base. But, it’s a step in the right direction.
GTRogue1@reddit
Jesus fucking Christ! I always forget about the pretentious dickheads on the internet. You know what my fucking point was you moron.

It takes the garrison commander’s approval per individual request to carry. This isn’t a mass approval that automatically lets every carry on post. Everyone seems to think every single person on a base is going to be running around armed with a personal weapon and that’s simply not going to be the case.

PotentialTree7951@reddit
Theres a reason why bases and ships have armorers, clearing barrels, regulations, firearms authorization cards, and count every bullet, but this goes against all of that. Does this affect prior precedent where people have gotten in trouble in the past for bringing firearms onto military installations?
War1today@reddit
This is what happens when you fill your cabinet positions with Christian nationalists and policy positions are created by those same people - see project 2025. Christian nationalists revere the myth that the country was founded as a Christian nation by white Christians and that its laws and institutions are based on Protestant Christianity. They believe that the country is divinely favored and has been given the mission to spread religion, freedom, and civilization. They see this mission and the values they cherish as under threat from the growing presence of non-whites, non-Christians, and immigrants in the United States. This is one point at which white Christian nationalism overlaps with the Make America Great American narrative. It’s the view that somebody has corrupted the country or is trying to take it away. Christian nationalists want to take it back. Historically, it goes together with a certain idea of order that places white men on the top of society with everyone else below them. Anything that threatens that order is seen as a justification for violence.

Firm-Worldliness-369@reddit
Yeah cause PTSD is just woke
Creepy-Cantaloupe951@reddit
I have PTSD, and also have a pistol permit. For the decade or so I've had it, and carried daily, I've not killed anyone.
So, this has nothing to do with "PTSD being woke" and more with "why are installations gun free zones?" To include the housing areas, and such? Why are soldiers who hunt, for example, not allowed to keep their hunting rifles at home, secured?
Firm-Worldliness-369@reddit
Again, its not that every soldier with PTSD is a threat. Everyone deals with their trauma and grief in different ways. It is however, a higher statistical probability that those with war trauma, or even just higher levels of lethal training, could harm themselves or others.
But how do you tell who, and when a soldier snaps? You can't.
It could be at a fourth of July fireworks celebration. New Years Day. An overly crowded room. A bar fight. A domestic dispute. Traffic altercation. Any moment where their training subconsciously takes over, and/or past trauma causes them to react hastily. Yes you could argue anyone has the potential to overreact, but the lethality of someone with army training is the concern.
Im sure there are many soldiers like you who can getter manage their emotions. Or seek the help they need when they need it. And maybe this will be fine if the proper precautions are in place to manage some of these soldiers mental health while they open carry.
Im just stating that it is a higher possible threat for some soldiers to open carry due to trauma. But that could be said for some people who arent in the military as well. So, 🤷 its a delicate debate.
As with why certain installation areas are gun free zones is definitely something I wasn't aware of. Could be the same kind of thought process, or just that "we're all on the same team" kinda thing. But youre right that if there was a domestic attack than youd want a weapon nearby. Does that rule go for military bases overseas? Or just for ones here in America?
Creepy-Cantaloupe951@reddit
Are civil rights contingent on... past employment now?
Can we ban anyone whose ever been a janitor from their 4th amendment rights, without pre-approval from a doctor?
Firm-Worldliness-369@reddit
And here in lies the delicate debate.
Arguably tho, if your past employment was to kill for living, it should warrant a higher for delicate discretion of risks.
Not sure what exactly you mean by a janitor and illegal searches and seizures tho. Do you mean for school shootings? Or janitors on military installations?
But criminals and sentencing are what is typically argued about the most. Some who murder get life, others get limited sentencing and are out in afew months to a year or less. Do all who commit murder go out and do it again? No not at all. But do some? For sure they do. Rapists too. What limits on civil liberties and what line is too much or too little for those with a higher risk of harm? Do we lock all rapists and murderers up for one "mistake" or do we set them all free and hope they learned their lesson? Do we give them the death penalty? Do we take away their rights to own and carry a weapon? Or their rights to illegal search and seizure? Do we force them to do prison labor?
Hell some who do prison time or get the death penalty have been innocent.
All im arguing is that it is a very slippery slope to generalize, one way or the other.
To allow all soldiers to open carry "could" be catastrophic, or, it may not.
But not allowing them, is a slight against their rights and the rights they fight to defend.
But which risk is more costly and to whom?
Im not arguing against you here brother. Not necessarily anyways. Im merely pointing out the potential dilemmas.
Creepy-Cantaloupe951@reddit
> Not sure what exactly you mean by a janitor and illegal searches and seizures tho. Do you mean for school shootings?
My point here is that soldiers, who HAVE to be on a military facility due to their profession, are forbidden from exercising their 2A rights, in a reasonable manner.
A similar ridiculous restriction would be all janitors are not allowed to exercise their 4th amendment rights, or even better, their 1st amendment rights are not granted, solely because of their employment as a janitor.

Don’t forget the facts of just two months ago:
This same administration tried to strip Alex Pretti’s 2nd Amendment right after the fact when they posthumously labeled HIM a domestic terrorist because he was legally carrying, not brandishing, in complete alignment with state and federal laws and was murdered by federal agents for legally exercising his 2nd Amendment right, and justly acting in defense of unarmed women, peacefully protesting by the same actual domestic enemies and terrorists Hegseth acknowledges here.
Kash Patel said “you can’t carry a weapon and magazines at a protest” and Hegseth praised the federal agents who murdered a lawful U.S. citizen, saying “We have your back 100%” and “You are saving this country”.
Not political, just facts. These guys are not to be trusted.

It’s a military base with armed security everywhere. That’s why there were no personal firearms allowed. That and it’s not just the alcoholism, ptsd, and high stress environment.
It’s that if ever a spy was trying to sneak into a base, they’d probably try and dress as a serviceman so as to blend in. And if that spy could carry a gun, they could possibly take out critical personnel including officers or use the gun to take control of say a facility with explosives in it and then use those explosives to destroy military property.
The banning of personal firearms wasn’t “anti-2nd Amendment.” It was to mitigate attempts at espionage and assassination. And Hegseth just allowed anyone motivated enough to infiltrate a military base to also bring a gun with them when they do it.

Second, he's resorting to God over and over, which means he lacks the legal and moral reasoning to do what he's doing. It's a very flimsy argument based literally on belief. That shows weakness instead of strength.
Thirdly, there's a reason why weapons are locked for military personnel, and it's that many of them aren't very bright or stable. When you handle them weapons, you end up with people trying to enact the first part of Full Metal Jacket.
Finally, the answer for security problemsbwas right there in his speech: Military Police. If you have concerns regarding security, increase the number of soldiers in the MP department. People who are selected and trained for security, specifically.
What he's doing will end in a military shootout at some point.

Electric-Dance-5547@reddit
This is bad though look for more violence and suicides on military installations related to firearms. Short fused, highly stressed, freely available alcohol as you can keep it in barracks. Young people that aren’t fully emotionally developed yet. Bad bad bad this does nothing for safety and security. Proper active shooter training of base personnel and some more MPs is way better. If anything happens on post it was from a careless armor and MPs dropping the ball.

Everyone should start watching Rubio with great intent. The fiasco we’re in is a state department issue. The military action against Iran’s military was excellent, and as far as staying in lanes go, Pete should not be catching flak for the diplomatic affairs with Iran.
He should be catching flak for bombing a girls school bc he used Obama era intel without verification, but that is very different from the whole global crisis resulting from the complete breakdown of diplomacy, responsibility of the State Department.

Why would we give them something to kill people with when the only people to kill are their fellow soldiers?"

Woah woah woah this wasn’t an April fools thing? These rules were put into place after a person living on base housing murdered his family. Seems pretty fucking inept to allow personal firearms with all that some sensitive material on base. Imagine having a personal firearm on Andrew’s where the president flies out of? lol. I use to walk my dog on a walking path near the hangar, now he wants people to have a gun with the same access?? My stepdad flew Air Force 1/2 and we had to take him to pick up his firearm before he left for flight. Wait let me get this straight. The Army banned daytime or lunchtime drinking because shit was getting out of hand. Soldiers were fighting, disrespect was rampant and DV cases... Now you think it's a good idea to allow service members to carry firearms when you have soldiers killing soldiers in the arms room. You just instituted a "bro" culture, I mean warrior culture that allows reported sexual harassment and assaulters to stay working at their unit until convicted... You did away with dumb stuff like, rules of engagement and proper escalation of force. Good luck with whatever this is. I didn't know or recognize what this is becoming.

Doesn't mean anything. Commanders have been allowed to give in wiriting permission for personnel to carry firearms on their installation in a non-offical capacity has been a thing since 2016.
The way he worded it in this video just implies the right and lightly highlights the force protection stipulation from it that has always been in place. Base CO's will continue doing things just as they have been and at most, MWR or Base police now have a firearm storage function.

A sailor was "playing around" with his supposedly unloaded gun and shot his girlfriend in the head at pointblank range (personal weapons weren't permitted in these off-post housing locations). I remember it because the building I lived in was the one next over and we were assigned to the same ship. I think more incidents/"accidents" like this should be expected also.
